It would if the victims family began suing the NRA for wrongful death.

Mayor Bloomberg is right in morale, short in reality.

Please bring the head of NRA on a platter, then there may be a chance on the Second Amendment. As long as NRA runs this country. You know what its like.

    It is a sad reality.

It's time to use logic. Car registration doesn't stop car sales. We also have speed limit on cars imported onto the USA. I don't hear cries over that. Limiting gun types and power is the right thing to do at this point.

I challenge the gun industry and the NRA to come up with solutions. Self regulate yourselves. Prove to me that all of the rhetoric about the private sector knows best isn't just an altruistic argument for the private sector to do whatever it pleases. Find a way to prevent these sort of tragedies from occurring. If you want own guns designed to hunt humans, then come up with a way and means to prevent people from going out and randomly hunting humans.

The suspect purchased thousands and thousands of rounds of ammunition on the internet and had it shipped overnight.

Just look at the gun control laws in Chicago and DC and look at what that has done to violent crime. Then compare that to Switzerland. Progressives/Liberals truly hate the 2nd Amendment. It is shameful for them to use every act of violence as a political football against the 2nd Amendment. But Fast and Furous was OK.

Maybe we should pass a law that says that people like only current and former service men and women, police and corrections officers, can own guns. We know that they have been professionally trained on their use.

  8. I'm FOR gun control, it is the only way to hit the target every time

It is time that we pass laws requiring mandatory sanity checks for every person in the USA. Every month you will be required to report to a government clinic and be examined. It is the only way for all of us to be safe from all the crazy people running around in the USA.

The reason this subject won't become more controversial this election is because Obama through the Admin spokesman stated that the gun controll laws on the books are sufficient. End of story.

The government can make it mandatory for every US citizen to own an gun. Congress and the NRA would love that one.

You are a little late wit that thought.

There were no nuclear weapons when the forefathers wrote in the Constitution "the right to bear arms", I believe their intent was to protect against foreign invaders and not to use weapons against our fellow Americans. Wars are fought different now and the NRA's defense for gun rights is going to get us all killed.

Yes, and it sure did help the Ft. Hood shooter kill all those people. Sorry, but my Constitutional rights or not up for negotiation. How about this? I'll give up my right to own a firearm if the leftists will give up their right ot free speech? Your hate speech is far more dangerous IMO.

While we'll never be able to controll insane people from wanting to harm other human beings, but we should have at least some limits on these powerfull semi and fully automatic weapons available these days. Maybe a limit on the capacity of firing. The ability to shoot 100 rounds at once in an automatic weapon seems like a bit much for self defense. Backround checks and perhaps a psycological evaluation before purchase seems to make sense.

The super-radicalized NRA and their insane leader- an arm of today's GOP, essentially owns this event, and all conversation on gun control laws. Most Americans support some sort of pragmantic gun control. Unfortunately, niether the GOP or the NRA are pragmatic.

How many so-called "Progressives/Liberals" do you actually know?? There is ZERO chance of the 2AM being repealed, and if you believe otherwise, I have some ocean-front property for you in South Texas... What we need is ENFORCEMENT of the controls already in place – IOW who has access and is licensed. It's not working real well so far is it.

    >While we'll never be able to controll insane people from wanting to harm other human beings,

absolutely correct, life has risks. you cannot be protected from everything.

    > but we should have at least some limits on these powerfull semi and fully automatic weapons available these days. Maybe a limit on the capacity of firing. The ability to shoot 100 rounds at once in an automatic weapon seems like a bit much for self defense.

so the only onlt way to do this is single shot pistols and rifles. maybe we should only allow black powder muzzle loaders? otherwise, a person could have multiple weapons and magazines and still kill many people. so did you
    really solve any "problems"?

    >Backround checks and perhaps a psycological evaluation before purchase seems to make sense.

they do have this. this person had a completely clean record, no mental illness, etc. no law, check or anything would have stopped him. if he could get his hands on guns, he sure knew how to build bombs. would it have been better if he ran in there and started throwing 10-20 pipe bombs? far more would have been killed and the entire complex would have bene up in flames. so are you going to outlaw pipes next?

I think you have liberals and conservatives confused my friend. It's the conservative budget-cutting efforts and refusal to support the necessary MHMR needs programs that have close the mental hospitals and forced them onto our streets, not the liberals. You are giving conservatives a bad name with commentary like that.

Nothing in these laws will change, the NRA says so..What you need is a more of a comprehensive plan of psychological testing to examine any underlying problems in people applying for gun purchases or permits, just a five day cooling off period with a small background check to own a piece of hardware that can kill anyone, that's way too lenient for my taste and I've owned guns and concealed permits for years.Even people like myself who works for the government or nuclear industry has to go thru a more complex, strengent process than this, even most police officers couldn't pass what we go thou its that extensive. But that's what you go thru if ya want the job and are put on "PADS", a system that keeps track of your comings and going work, off time wise, its like survailence but much cheaper, its global so there's really no place you can work at that they don't know because of your personal accountibility if you want another job of this type..So if want a weapon of any type it won't be so bad if you really want it enough right, that's if you're mentally fit by their standards to have one,its your call...

If we banned high capacity magazines like the one that jammed on the Colorado shooter, then everyone would be forced to use the practically foolproof lower capacity magazines and then, uh, wait a sec… never mind.

@BEND Forward – Sorry, but my Constitutional rights or not up for negotiation.
    ---------------------------------
You constitutional "right" actually states – "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". In true founders fashion, they would not have envisioned 44 magnums, AK47 and other automatic weapons at the time they enacted the amendment. To ensure your constitutional right is not being violated, when are you signing up for the Army ?

There are many complicated factors that go into the causes of such horrific acts as the Batman movie , Columbine, Fort Hood and Tuscon shootings. To blame one specific group is not reasonable. For sure, there are many wonderful, law abiding members of the NRA who are probably horrified by what has taken place and may even have had family or friends at the movie last Saturday. That is the last thing they want to happen too. However, the NRA could certainly be a huge part in the solutions to this growing problem. No-one disagrees that the second amendment allows people to have firearms but that was meant to protect their homes and persons and for recreational hunting. The founding fathers would have never dreamed that people could easily buy assault weapons meant for war and thousands of rounds of ammunition to load them. That is taking the amendment too far. As one governor responsibly stated, he has no problem with the second amemdment but he also wants the first amemdment upheld also which is to protect everyone else's freedoms and safety too. The ball is actually in the NRA'S court now. They could work sensibly and compassionately right now with victim's families, police, FBI, governors, law makers, gun salesmen, mayors and everyone else to try and come up with ways to flag unreasonable requests for assault weapons and ammunition which would not in any stretch be necessary to uphold the second amendment. The NRA has a terrible PR nightmare right now and they could show everyone that they do not condone such acts and want to be part of the solution. Not only would it save their reputation, but might save lives too.
