Obama talks guns, Democratic leaders duck

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama broke his silence on the Colorado movie massacre Wednesday night and spoke out on the issue of gun control.

"I believe the majority of gun owners would agree ... that we should check someone's criminal record before they can check out a gun seller; that a mentally unbalanced individual should not be able to get his hands on a gun so easily," said the president.

There has to be something done. Here in southern California people are being killed everyday from guns and its really bad.The gun issue is out of control totally.

Democrates like republicans always avoid this caustic issue, they know what happened years ago when Dems fought for banning certain guns, remember we lost the majority of seats that election cycle.Pres.Obama is just speaking of a different issue, licencing and how it applies to indiviguals that may have underlying mental problems and how gun shop owners can help to apply more strengent guidelines to make it safer for all citizens whether a gun enthusiasts or not.I as a gun owner, concealed permit holder believe more psychological testing is needed before handing over a piece of hardware that could kill or mame another, its a responsibility and privilege to own a gun,the amendments don't explain that but guns served a different purpose back then when the amendments were originally written and gun offenses were handled more hastily, strongly with corporal punishment like hanging being the ultimate sentence. We're more civilized now ,but should revert to these same sentences as it might make abusive gun users think twice before using a weapon illegally against another and ban the MSM from televising the offenders identification publicly.People like Charles Manson should have never gotten the publicity for murdering Sharon Tate and he shouldn't be around this long either, living like a king on death row..

Everything President Obama stated, the majority of Americans do agree – including the gun owners – So what is the big deal? – Assault weapons belong in war and no one should be able to buy grenades, six thousands bullets and other gun-related equipment on the internet without a RED FLAG going up – Where was our homeland security watch – this killer was a real threat to our home security; if he was a Muslim, he would have been tagged…. Really!!

  4. 1968 Act

With the exception of banning assault weapons, every thing Obama says we should is already covered by the 1968 federal firearms act. Here's a novel idea, put systems in place that help us enforce the laws on the books

you can be sure that the NRA and guns right supporters will overlook that President Obama said that he supported the 2nd Amendment and firearms ownership. After all as president he did sign into law that you can take your guns legally into our National Parks now. What they will still focus on is that "Obama wants to take ALL your guns away" because they have enough people stupid enough to fall for that line. Case in point I enjoy the line "But Obama NEVER said that" to which the NRA member replied "I KNOW he never said it that's why I know he's gonna DO IT!!" LOL

This is aclassic example of the media taking what people actually say and over dramatising the meaning inaccore with how they want to "play the story out" i.e keep it contoversial so it fills air time or space on tv.
The second follow question to Reid is classic nonsense, harry reid does not determine Democratic policy, he has an influence and does not determine whether gun laws will be an issue this term or especially the next term.
Grow up and stop trying to make scandal and scoops!! via political IED policy questions.

The President is a very brave and smart man! To take a stand that every reasonable person can support when it comes to gun ownership and safety, wile all the others duck, is very brave “these days”. And he leaves it up to the people to think and come to grips with a complicated and all too often deathly “Love” for guns in the US. It will be interesting to see how the NRA (and GOP-TP and Fox) will twist this trying to tell people “that one” is going after their guns…

Nobody needs assault rifles. If you want to own a gun oro one hundred go ahead. Just make sure you keep it away from children. Too bad it's too late for a little four year old in our area who shot himself yesterday!

this country seems to be going down the drain, where have common sense gone. the fabricated angry and unlogical sentiment in this country seems to be growing. take for instant global warming that big oil companies money are convincing the repubs gullibles that are not happening. now the thought of semi automatic weapon's are a good thing, when someone can unload a hundred rounds in a minutes without even stopping to reload so someone can jump on him to save lives. what have become of our great nation.
