London (CNN) – Mitt Romney told British leaders he hopes to take in an Olympics swimming competition during his time in London. With no pool in sight, the Republican presidential candidate has already made waves of his own.
Early Thursday morning in the U.K., while much of the U.S. political world was fast asleep, the British press had seized on comments the GOP contender made about London's preparations for the Olympics.

"You know it's hard to know just how well it will turn out," Romney said in an interview with NBC News Wednesday evening. "There are a few things that were disconcerting. The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials – that obviously is not something which is encouraging."
"Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment?" Romney asked. "That's something which we only find out once the Games actually begin."
The headline on the main page for London's Daily Telegraph news site was not what the Romney campaign had in mind for this visit: "Mitt Romney questions whether Britain is ready for Olympic Games."
During a visit to London's chief Olympic stadium, British Prime Minister David Cameron was asked for a response to Romney's comments. Cameron put diplomacy aside and took direct issue with Romney's remarks.
"I think we will show the whole world not just that we come together as a United Kingdom but also we're extremely good at welcoming people from across the world," Cameron said to reporters just hours before his own scheduled visit with the GOP contender.
"I will obviously make those points to Mitt Romney. I look forward to meeting him," Cameron added, mentioning the Republican candidate by name.
In what sounded like a jab at Romney's stewardship of the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Cameron appeared to draw a contrast between staging the Games in London versus Utah.

"We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere," Cameron said.
After his meeting with Cameron, Romney praised British preparations for the Games. Romney then sidestepped a question about whether he intended any criticism of London in his initial comments.
"I'm very delighted with the prospects of a highly successful Olympic Games. What I see shows imagination and forethought and a lot of organization and expect the Games to be highly successful," Romney said.
That may have been enough to satisfy the British press. The headline on the Telegraph's site after his meeting with Cameron: "Mitt Romney seeks to play down London 2012 comments"

Nothing wrong with Mitt, He just told the truth; like he always does.
I thought Romney was going to wow the Brits with his "Anglo-Saxonyishness". Sadly, he is learning the hard way that foreign policy expertise and diplomacy cannot be learned from watching Fox News. Welcome to the big leagues, Mitt. I know Obama makes it look so easy when the crowds welcomed him by the thousands in the UK and the rest of Europe but so far you get an F on your first foreign trip.
I cant believe some of what this dope says. From his wife with her "two cadillacs" to "I'm not worried about the poor" statements. Now this. He might be rich but he sure aint smart. This makes Bush look like a genius.
Mitt Romney = John Kerry
Mitt has this little problem with facing reality. It was clear from the statements by Cameron that Mitt had said something to offend Great Britan and yet Mitt when asked about it, avoids admitting he mispoke and instead talks about when he headed up the Olympics... saying he made mistakes.. but again, never actually naming any.. because we know if someone pointed them out, he would have to point the blame to someone else, probably a worker of his.
Romney the Puppet Liar again sticks his mouth where it does not belong. He has no idea who he is. He should know that when you are a vistor, you don't insult the company and you don't insult the country you are in. What an idiot!
If Romney wins in November the blind will surely be leading the blind.
Yes..Romney made $$$ for himself and his investors
but as a POTUS..he is a walking disaster. The Presidency is more than getting a Return of Investment on a ledger sheet...
I think Romney needs to understand that his vision of success is not sustainable . And his vision might not be conceivable to achieve for most people.
If we all had ten homes , 16 grandchildren , a dancing horse and a car elevator and 200 million dalliers , there would be not much left on the planet , the only reason to live would be to obtain more personal wealth . And thats says it all about Romney
Romney , more at any cost 2012
As oppose to the Obamas acting like complete baffoons in front of the Royal Family? Gee I wonder why the wonderful 1st Family DID NOT get an invite to the Royal Wedding of Prince William? Perhaps they feared Obama still did not know what year it was? Or his limo (probably weighted down with all the debt), would not be able to make inside the palace thus they might have to, gasp! walk!
Or maybe they did not want them disrespecting the national anthem yet again.
We will never know oh great HRH Queen
"I heard this speech on CNN this morning. Romney never explains who the people are who are "attacking success," so it must be us, the bloggers all over the world. If you are attacking Romney's success, STOP IT! He doesn't like it!
No problem. Mitt doesn't actually like us anyway, no matter who we are.
And, yes, I agree with the blogger who stated that perhaps Mitt is upset that we little people do tend to judge success differently than, say, how Mitt Romney judges success. All his wonderful cars, wonderful houses, wonderful elevators, wonderful horses, wonderful children, wonderful grandchildren, and wonderful tax havens just aren't my cup of Tea.
Not to be characterized as envy or ill wishes on my part. I don't begrudge him any of it. Fact is, it seems to have helped mold Mitt into the imagine he is trying so desperately to bury. Leading one to suggest that he, himself, is doing most of the judging ... and finding himself lacking in, oh I don't know, the characteristics we little people surround ourselves daily through work, friendships, and companionable fellowship.
There is nothing about Mitt Romney that is REAL ... be he extremely rich or otherwise.
Mitt can only see a defect in every person and everything. He has no any creative idea of his own he just thrives by criticizing others even the Bites. This is his way to establish his greatness by tearing others for his own glory. David Cameron was right to put him in his place. I am glad that he doesn't represent me and I am not embarrassed by his incompetency, but I am sorry for his humanity. The plastic man has no core or substance..
Stay tuned for his trip to a deli in Israel.
Romney: "I would like a ham sandwich with cheese."
Deli: "We have no ham. Not Kosher"
Romney: "Then can I get a BLT on rye?"
Deli: No, no, no, no, no
Romney to Reporters: "Well, we enjoyed visiting the local businesses, they have great pickles – very sour, but there are still a few restaurants that are resistant to offering a diverse menu selection."
Thomas said, "I think Romney needs to understand that his vision of success is not sustainable . And his vision might not be conceivable to achieve for most people."
Which vision r u referring. The one that has kept this country of 300+yrs a major super power, thru individual ingenuity, small govt and unfetted capitalism and that no one is guaranteed success? Where people knows better how to spend their hard earned money? (Romney's vision)
Or the vision that says, everyone should make the same, have the same and live the same regardless of whether they work for it or not-ie the govt cradle-grave mentality? And Govts know better. Obama's vision
Rmoney's extensive foreign policy experience is obvious, right? I can't wait to see what he says in Poland. Can this guy do anything more to demonstrate how out of touch with reality he really is? He makes that guy in Iran look positively rational.
Does the loser romney the clown ever have anything good to say about anybody, the worst Gop bafoon party canadate ever ,and where's your tax returns???just lose in Nov and go away !!!
Speaking of investment? Did anyone see the news on GM? They have lost more money than the amt given to bail them out. Yep now that's the kind of return on investment I want for my tax dollars!
Shh Obama saved GM right?
Good thing Mittens is taking this trip to demonstrate his diplomacy.
I think the British might have to quarantine Willard for 'Foot in Mouth Disease'.
Open mouth, insert foot. Something he's actually good at besides bankrupting businesses and hiding money overseas..
With that kind of statements about another country's ability to organize international games Romeny came across as an idiot who has no courtesy or diplomacy. Compare to President Obama who handles himself in a very polished manner when visiting foreign countries Romney made the foreign think of him as fool.
It will be fun watching the debates and watching Romney flounder as he tries to appear for and against every issue they debate!
You have to admit it, when Romeny is president, the whole country will finally give a sigh of relief. You can't argue that. Say what you want about obama and the republicans. It hasn't worked and it won't work. Get someone who has a record (good or bad) in there. No one knows who BO is – he's just a nobody from nowhere who got to be president. He had his good time, got to wear fancy suits, but he never really was a president. He got to live in the white house and act like a big boy, but he'll be remembered as a fool. Don't make this country more miserable than it already is. Think.
Way to go Mittens; insult your host. I guess your business experience didn't teach you much etiquette. You took a page right out of "The Ugly American." This helps show that you are not Presidential material!
He has put his foot in his mouth again.
