A Romney VP shortlist or just a short list on Twitter?

(CNN) - Beth Myers, the woman leading Mitt Romney's running mate search, tweeted a list of names on Friday–all of whom have been speculated as potential VP picks.

The tweets come as a surprising post for a campaign that has been strictly tight-lipped about its search process.

Myers writes "#FF" before the names, a tradition known as "Follow Friday" in which users urge their friends to follow certain names on Twitter.

The list of names included: Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, fromer Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, South Dakota Sen. John Thune, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Romney has repeatedly said only he and Myers were the two who knew the most intimate details about the search process. So far, he has only admitted to vetting Rubio, after a firestorm erupted over reports that the Florida senator was not on the list.

The tweets appeared to come at random, as Myers last posted on Twitter back in April–her first and only tweet until Friday.

Romney's campaign confirmed that the Twitter posts were authentic.

- CNN's Dashia Starr and Mark Preston contributed to this report.

No accident- that's to get our minds off the foreign trip fiasco. I was expecting to see St. Jude on the list though.

Not a single person on that list would have any trouble obliterating Joe Biden in a debate or in holding the duties of the office of the Vice President. Not a single one of them.

Why would Bobby Jindal be on this list? He claims he changed his name to Bobby because he was so impressed by The Brady Bunch (makes me want to puke). What an obvious lie. His real name is Piyush. This is exactly whats wrong with our politicians. Just a bunch of liars. The 'Bobby' is just for marketing purposes. His attempt to disguise who he is and what his culture is rather than just being honest.

how about this theory, beth myers released these names because she wants all potential republican voters to feel like "hey at least romney strongly considered my favorite candidate for vp.." i would not be surprised if romney shocks the world and chooses rep allen west (who isnt on this list) at the repub convention

Sounds like damage control. Float VP names to take the spotlight off of Gov Romneys blunders in London. Romney is NOT presidential material. Sen McCain even said that Sarah Palin was a better pick than Romney.

Will the people on Romney's short list insult our allies and cause diplomatic embarrassment when they travel abroad? Do they have something to hide in their tax returns? Romney's vetting committee wants to know. Having the presidential candidate doing these things is bad enough.

It doesn't matter who he chooses. Willard will go down in flames come November. There is NO WAY he can win in the electoral college!

Sarah Palin would be the perfect running mate for Romney.

She can't answer basic questions and he's got two answers for every question.

While I'm betting he'll tab Martinez, I'm hoping he tabs Santorum.

It certainly would make for a more exciting ticket and process.

  21. Hey, Mittens, got any more of those 100K Bain jobs for doing nothing? 'Call Me, Maybe'?

Just a weak attempt to generate interest in a failing campaign about a subject no ones cares about, outside the GOP bagger base.

Well it looks like it would be easier to pick who will NOT be the choice moreso than who will. NEWT GINGRICH?? Yeah, right you pick a guy that calls you a LIAR! Rick Santorum?? Sure after he said Mitt is the WORST candidate to run against Obama? (STRIKE!) I don't see why Herman Cain's name isn't on there. hat would cut into Obama's lead with the Black vote if he chose him (wink) But I still think his best choice is by his side right now....ANN ROMNEY! Nobody understands him more, backs him up more, and he won't even have to ask her for her tax returns like he will have to ask the others for. And you know when he does ask for those returns the Obama team is going to pounce so why do it?
