A Romney VP shortlist or just a short list on Twitter?

(CNN) – Beth Myers, the woman leading Mitt Romney's running mate search, tweeted a list of names on Friday–all of whom have been speculated as potential VP picks.

The tweets come as a surprising post for a campaign that has been strictly tight-lipped about its search process.

Myers writes "#FF" before the names, a tradition known as "Follow Friday" in which users urge their friends to follow certain names on Twitter.

The list of names included: Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, fromer Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, South Dakota Sen. John Thune, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Romney has repeatedly said only he and Myers were the two who knew the most intimate details about the search process. So far, he has only admitted to vetting Rubio, after a firestorm erupted over reports that the Florida senator was not on the list.

The tweets appeared to come at random, as Myers last posted on Twitter back in April–her first and only tweet until Friday.

Romney's campaign confirmed that the Twitter posts were authentic.

– CNN's Dashia Starr and Mark Preston contributed to this report.

Ruh-oh ... Ron Paul's campaign was all about getting his idiot son on that list. Now Paul is up a creek and guess who doesn't even get a chance to be Romney's VP pick? Rand is going to be very upset over this; his daddy promised.

Ahh yes, the old VP distraction to take away from his London gaffes. Last time it was to take heat off of his tax returns. Mitt, we are still waiting for a plan on how you are going to cut spending. We already know you are going to blow holes in the deficit by lowering taxes even more for the rich and upping defense spending.

You won't reveal more returns. Like your dad said one year is a fluke and they could be make to look good.
You won't give any details about things you will do. You are trying to run a Obama bad, me good campaign and say as little as you have too.

Uh, why is this news. We all know he is going to chose one of those listed above. It is not like she tweeted the actual pick. Won't matter anyway, I'm not voting for him.

I can say for sure that Paul Ryan, Newt Ginggrich and Rick Santorum are not on the short list.

I hope it's Santorum. That would do the same thing for Romney Palin did for McCain. Of course, I'm a Democrat, so what do I know...

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell seems the only choice. Virginia is a swing state and would be a very big win for Romney. Most of the others on the list are various combinations of boobs, bullies, and bores. Condie Rice would do nothing for Romney's bid. McDonnell. My apologies for being at this moment of of those "I told you so" commentators.

Wow, 14 people. That rally narrows it down. This is suck up stuff and lame. He hits almost every conservative demographic. Already said that it won't be Condi Rice. No way will it be Santorum or Newt. It will be someone boring, most likely Pawlenty or Portman.

Maybe, BIG maybe, for Jindal. Sad to see no Ron/Rand Paul on there. But I think this does it. Pawlenty, Gingrich, Santorum?!?!?! I can't vote R this year.

I would definitely choose santorum as a running mate. The only problem would be cleaning up the frothy mixture from the floor where he was standing.

Gingrich, Jindal, and Santorum? I thought he wanted to WIN this election.

That would be truly awesome though if he did pick Rubio. That would mean its Romney – the guy who wrote Obamacare – and his running mate – the guy who wrote Obama's new immigration policy – VS Obama.

How does the GOP come up with this stuff????

The Romney/Newt ticket would be a great comedy duo and would garner many laughs, but it wouldn't be good if you were seriously trying to win. Then again, most of the picks are of the newer caste and may not be willing to destroy their political future with the trainwreck that is Romney. Newt might be the only one who will run with Mitt.

She wants to take the heat off the governor's back. Diversion for polical breathing room to mitigate the governor's foreign policy debacle.
