Obama 'loves' the Olympics, might watch Romney's horse compete

(CNN) – His wife is leading the American delegation to the London Olympic Games, but President Barack Obama will be watching the action closely from back home, according to his press secretary.

"He is a sports fan, as everyone knows," Jay Carney said at Friday's press briefing. "He's actually very, I heard him the other day. He's like, 'I love the Olympics. I can't wait for the Olympics to start.'"

Carney said Obama was well versed in many Americans competing in London.

"His interests are very broad and he's read up on a lot on our athletes and on the upcoming competitions and looks forward to catching as much of the games that he can, his schedule, being what it is," Carney said.

One American athlete, Ann Romney's horse, Rafalca, will be on Obama's radar like everyone else, Carney said. Rafalca is a dressage horse co-owned by the wife of Obama's Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

"He is interested in seeing every American entrant perform well and he'll follow every event," Carney answered when asked if Obama would watch Rafalca compete. "If his schedule allows, I think the answer to that question is yes."

Ohhhhhhhhhhh... only a QUASI fascist. That makes it all better. My bad.

    /sarcasm"

Quasi means "resembles" or "has the attributes of." You can disagree whether Netty "resembles" or "has the attributes of" a fascist all you'd like...that's fine...but your pretense of one-upping me as though I somehow said he's "not a real" fascist is absurd and reveals that you're the ones who don't understand the meaning of the prefix. It's fairly stupid of you to play semantic games with someone smarter than you :-)

Football or soccer may have not been one of the original competitions at the first Olympic Games, but I’m tuning in to watch the USWNT. Go TEAM USA!!!

I’ll probably be in bed fast asleep by the time the broadcast for horse dressage comes on. Hmmmmmm.

Gee said he would not be watching his wife's horse in the Dressage competition. Ok for a $77,000 Business Tax deduction but little interest in following the passion his wife has for the sport.

Perhaps Romney is being just as dishonest with this subject as he is with his 1999-2002 running of Bain Capital and his tax return

I know what is happening. In the thought process of the Romney's and thier camp it is all a plot of Obama to distort and smear him. Poor little Mittens and Ann Romneyl Romney really does think Americans are fooled by his evasions.

He might do that or he might go play another round of golf, or he might use our tax money to go and beg more people for money to run his futile campaign with. He will do just about anything other than convene he jobs council or act on the recomendations deficit reduction panel.

I wonder if Obama is going to have to schedule a foreign swing to all the countries Romney visits to undo the damage done by stupid comments by someone who apparently is clueless regarding diplomacy. He (Obama) just might have to do what the wingnuts have been acusing him of – embarking on an apology tour. "On behalf of the People of the United States, I would like to apologize for Mitt Romney. He really didn't mean all the stupid, insulting things he said. He's just an out of touch robot that blerts out verbal diaria when he can't think of anything appropriate to say."

Romney also said he knows nothing about dressage or even the name of his wife's horse. If that's true, I guess he expects his wife to go out on the campaign trail and stump for him, yet he shows absolutely no interest in the things that are important to her.

Obama might be watching the olympics. He might be playing yet another round of golf. He might decided to take yet another taxpayer funded vacation. But what we know he won't do... put any effort into helping the American people.

If BO ran the Olympics, all the athletes would talk about their plans to complete in nonspecific events in emotional speeches.
And then all would be awarded Peace Prize medals ahead of time on speculation.
    And then nothing else.

Nice to hear that the President has read up on our athletes and of course wishes them all the best.

I might pass on the horse dressage. Reminds me too much of Sea World or the circus.

He sure remembered "that" horse when he claimed a $77,000 tax deduction didn't he? As usual, Willard is lying and trying to distance himself from being the greedy, self-serving, vulture capitalist that he is.

If Mittens ran the olympics, he would give all the medals to foreign banks, and shred all the records.

i'm surprised obama isn't over there the next 2 weeks watching all the usa basketball games and hob knobbing with all the celebs. i guess he has too many fund raisers back here to attend to. i'm sure he'll have them all recorded so he can watch them after he comes back from his golf games.

Woman In California – As far as I know, Rafalco is an American horse, or at least is competing for the United States team. I support Rafalco and hope he brings home the Gold. I don't need to see its birth certificate if it wants to help the USA. Since when did American politics drive a wedge through supporting and acknowledging American achievement? The Romneys raised a world class horse. KUDOS to the Romneys (on this specific point – lol). Although I want President Obama to win re-election, I can still wish the Romneys grace. Go Team USA ! ! !

President Obama is keeping one eye on the Olympics and one eye on Romney and Adelson while they're in Israel. Romney can't talk about President Obama on foreign soil but Adelson can and will that's why Romney has to be held responsible for Adelson doing his dirty work.

If liberals ran the Olympics, there would be no timing or scoreboards, judges would only be issued cards with "10" printed on them, and everyone would get a medal.

If Romney ever ran another Olympics, he would outsource all of the construction of the venues. Pnce he realizes that he has venues all over the world, he retroactively assigns gold medals, sends everyone home, pockets the profit, destroys all of the records, and pats himself on the back for being so clever.

When asked about it a year later he replies, "Wasn't me. I resigned from that job in 1999."

@ExaPat American obviously doesn't know anything about horses, or Dressage. One of my horses, a Thoroughbred that used to be a race horse, just loves working in the arena and he likes his dressage training (although he likes hunting/jumping better – he literally lights up when he understands we are going to work on jumping some days). Whatever people may think of Mittens, I don't blame the horse for the questionable traits of its owner, and I wish people wouldn't belittle a sport just because they don't like a particular person who might be affiliated with it. I won't be watching any of the Olympics because I do not own a television (can't afford it – the vet, feed, farrier and training bills preclude buying such things) but I wish all the athletes a successful competition, whether they win or not.
