Obama 'loves' the Olympics, might watch Romney's horse compete

(CNN) – His wife is leading the American delegation to the London Olympic Games, but President Barack Obama will be watching the action closely from back home, according to his press secretary.

"He is a sports fan, as everyone knows," Jay Carney said at Friday's press briefing. "He's actually very, I heard him the other day. He's like, 'I love the Olympics. I can't wait for the Olympics to start.'"

Carney said Obama was well versed in many Americans competing in London.

"His interests are very broad and he's read up on a lot on our athletes and on the upcoming competitions and looks forward to catching as much of the games that he can, his schedule, being what it is," Carney said.

One American athlete, Ann Romney's horse, Rafalca, will be on Obama's radar like everyone else, Carney said. Rafalca is a dressage horse co-owned by the wife of Obama's Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

"He is interested in seeing every American entrant perform well and he'll follow every event," Carney answered when asked if Obama would watch Rafalca compete. "If his schedule allows, I think the answer to that question is yes."

One thing is certain. Draconian spending cuts by conservatives following the crash of '29 is what most certainly spawned The Great Depression.

I'm not buyin' that willard isn't going to watch his dancing deduction compete.

He's just trying to deflect the attention because his dancing tax deduction – $78,000 deduction btw – could very well turn into a john kerry windsurfing moment.

I bet every person complaining about presidential vacations has taken one of their own....So stop the nonsense!!! I hope Mrs. Obama goes in person to watch the Romney's horse compete.....that would show the class that this President and the First Lady possess.

    Yes...BO...Watch and learn....

Yes Obama watch Romney's HORSE compete and learn how its done....The Romney together with most Americans know what it takes to grow prosperity for all the people......
    -

Yeah, thats something romney is definitely a master at – scamming those stupid people for a $78,000 tax deduction for a horse under the guise of growing prosperity. That one deduction could have covered the salaries of 2 teachers who had been laid off – yet romney got the deduction for a freakin' horse. If that's not a scam...you're just not paying attention.

Can you honestly list one thing that romney proposes that will reduce unemployment? Just one

Hey, I hope Romney's horse wins, too.

I think Romney's a pathetic candidate and an overpriviledged embarrassment who's making the Republican party look like a joke for even considering him for president... but, I've got nothing against his fancy dancin' horse! I hope America brings home all the gold possible, no matter how silly the event.

Or he might watch because it's the right thing to do, or because he knows people will ask him about it, or because he's curious about this whole dancing horse thing, or because Sasha and Melia want to. How do you propose to know his reasons? If he watches, which maybe he won't.

I hope this horse does well and brings home gold for Team USA. However, there is a side of me that can't stand the story behind it or the tax break Rafalca brings its owners. I don't make $75K a year...

My son is 10 and has special needs. For 2 years he was involved with Hippo Therapy (horseback therapy) and LOVED it. "Ride" is one of only a handful of words that I've ever heard him say. The stables we took him to lost their grant and had to close. There is another stable that would take him, but we can't afford the full cost, $45 hour – weekly, and still cover his other needs such as meds and/or our personal health care cost.

What I would like to understand is why we couldn't talk about Ann's horse and their tax right off because it was therapy for her MS. It was "insensitive", she has a disability. There are a lot of people in this world who struggle every single day with disabilities that can't afford $45 an hour for horseback therapy, much less co-own a dressage horse.

There is a HUGE difference between the uber-rich and the middle class. Mitt and Ann won't or can't see it! Just saying

Indeed. It's also what finally sank Greece. Buying government action to enforce "austerity measures" on everyone else is the wealthy's way of trying to beat the unwashed masses into submission in order to avoid letting go of their stranglehold on a society's wealth. When the threat becomes apparent that redistribution downwards will or needs to happen in order to fix the problems caused by the redistribution upwards, it's generallyk at the piont where the wealthy have established not only a strnglehold over the society's wealth, but also its system of governance. Apparently, they prefer guillotines to taxes.

Rafalca, aka "Tax Break" is an excellent dancer around the course; he weaves and bobs on tippie toes around all of the obstacles. as well as the ethics............

As entertaining as all the back and forth bickering, name calling, and "stand by your man" stances supported or not can be you right wingers do realize how meaningless it is don't you?
I mean you do realize that the only thing that matters is your vote in November....and that Obama gets his second term.

I think Romney's real flub this week was in saying he wasn't interested in his wife's passion!! Mine would not be as interested in mine if i had said that to my closest friend – let alone to millions in a TV interview!!
Does he really care about the women's vote? He may have lost his wife's over this confession.

Thank you for proving my point by regurgitating the historical rewrite that the handful of ideologues I mentioned loves to rely on. "Educate yourself" does not mean "invent the most comfortable version of what happened that you're willing to swallow," but that's apparently your working definition.

"Quite a ding, not only for the TeamRomney horse trainers, but also for the entire TeamUSA horse competition to have a owner so disinterested in the event."
In fairness Mitt Romney, it's his wife that actually is considered the co-owner of the horse. Not Romney's interest, but you'd think he would be more supportive of his wife. Still doesn't take away from the fact that only the very elite rich could afford to dabble in champion dressage horses.

I hope the President misses a horse that has been tortured to have that gait that these horses have.
The flip flopping family, on the other hand, seem to like to torture their animals in any way they can. Dressage, riding on top of a van and who knows what else that bully has done to any animal they have ever had.

so you should have no trouble pointing to the exact time at which FDR brought the USA out of the depression. please state the month and year and what the unemployment rate was including all of the make work WPA jobs that masked the real unemployment problem.

Could someone please explain to me how MR gets a $78k tax deduction for a dancing horse? I've got a dancing goat. Can I get a tax break on him – - – thought not. Mitt R is an embarrassment to the Republican Party & to this entire country. He doesn't have a clue what ordinary people in this country face day-to-day.

Uh...a little too late for that, LOL. Rmoney is pretending it's his wife's horse & pretending even that he doesn't know know when this $77,000 deduction is running! He doesn't want people to know he's not a regular Joe, not a one percenter....uh...a little too late for that.

This again? I wonder how many times this myth will be be repeated. See Horwitz and McPhillips (2012), McCardle and others for a discussion of the multiple ways that both government and private actions and investments helped reduce the effects of the great depression before the war, how gold flows from Europe probably pushed our economy into real recovery as early as 1940, but how the real recovery didn't happen until well after the war was over. It's a much more complicated picture than you realize.

Okay, Willard Rmoney made about 5 or 6 gaffes in England, which I suspected he would do. I wonder how many he will make in Israel; I like what the talking heads on TV said about that, and about the possible "Polish jokes" he might make in Poland, that last one was said by Joe on Morning Joe. The thing is he went abroad to gain some "foreign experience" and instead manages to make a laughing stock of the U.S. and gives creedence (sp?) to the term "The Ugly American." Just like money can't buy class, money can't buy tact.
