(CNN) - The U.S. recovery has hit a speed bump this year, slowing significantly in the first half of 2012.

But that didn't seem to get the White House down. The Obama administration released surprisingly upbeat economic forecasts Friday, when it revised the President's budget to include recent data.

Obama faces RNC criticism in new Olympic ad buy

Washington (CNN) – The Republican National Committee will air a new, hard hitting television commercial during Olympic programming that criticizes President Barack Obama for pushing through an economic stimulus plan that has failed to right the troubled economy.

Republican sources said the ad will also run on national cable television and in the key battleground states of Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin. The sources would not reveal how much money is behind the ad, but it will be paid for through the committee’s independent expenditure (IE) arm. This is the second commercial that the RNC’s IE has aired. Two weeks ago, the RNC IE ran its first TV commercial attacking Obama for failing to live up to his campaign promises to fix the economy and create more jobs. So far, $11 million was spent on that ad buy, according to the GOP sources.

Phelps v. Lochte: Romney picks Phelps, Michelle Obama demurs

(CNN) – This year's closely watched Olympics rivalry between Team U.S.A. swimmers Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte has Americans picking sides, including presumptive GOP Mitt Romney. First lady Michelle Obama, however, is keeping her pick under wraps.

Asked simply to pick "Phelps or Lochte" on NBC Friday, Romney went with probability, rather than passion.

Republicans slam Obama after GDP report

(CNN) – A report showing U.S. economic growth slowing over the past three months provided ammunition for Republicans Thursday, who pinned responsibility for a weak economy squarely on President Barack Obama.

Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, wrote in a statement the numbers represented "just more devastating news for struggling American families."
