Romney campaign bars reporters from Jerusalem fund-raiser

Update: The campaign said Sunday it will now allow the press to cover Romney's remarks at the fund-raiser, but reporters will be escorted out before he takes questions from the audience.

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's presidential campaign will not allow reporters to cover the candidate's Monday fund-raiser in Jerusalem, a campaign aide said Saturday.

That decision is a change in practice from an agreement the campaign and media outlets, including CNN, reached with the campaign last spring.

Romney press aide Rick Gorka told reporters following Romney on his international trip that the fund-raiser was closed press, but offered no explanation as to why. Romney touched down Saturday in Israel and will head later to Poland.

A rotating small number of reporters attend the candidate's fund-raisers held in public places - such as Jerusalem's King David Hotel, the site of Monday's event - and share their reporting with other outlets, but reporters are not allowed into Romney's fund-raisers in private homes.

Several reporters attended part of Romney's fundraiser in London on Thursday.

Among those who may attend the fund-raiser is billionaire Sheldon Adelson, the major Republican donor who last month donated millions to the primary super PAC supporting Romney.

The campaign of President Barack Obama allows a similar pool of reporters to attend some Obama campaign fund-raisers, excluding those at which Obama will not deliver remarks. Some of those venues have included hotel fund-raisers.

Romney's closed-door fund-raisers and his private comments to donors were highlighted when reporters from NBC News and The Wall Street Journal overheard Romney telling donors in a backyard in April that as president he might close the Department of Housing and Urban Development and scale back the Department of Education, items he had not rolled out in public events at the time.

In response to the news, Obama campaign senior adviser David Axelrod tweeted, "After London debacle, Romney team re-institutes Mittness Protection Program. Now media will be barred from his Jerusalem fundraiser."

In another tweet, he added, "Is it because Sheldon Adelson, the SuperPac King, will be among the guests?"

This guy is just Palin in a suit. Actually, the Brits (our closest ally) think he's worse then her.
McCain's camp thought Palin was better than Willard too.

That speaks volumes as we know how big of a failure she is.

So here's the question for all the Obama bashers out there... if Obama is so bad, and you guys can't come up with anyone better.. what does that say about your own Party?
Better fire up that tread mill for Christi and start praying Hillary decides no to run (and Chelsey doesn't run for Senate).

He could always shred his remarks like he shredded his Olympic payouts, his tax records, his Bain records, his MA records, and the right wingnuts would be happy.

Well that is one way to avoid saying something stupid that gets in the press. I am disappointed hough I had one hour and 30 minutes in the pool at work for the amount of time that would pass before this idiot insulted the Israelis like he has everyone else so far. Now I will have to wait anoither day.

How can he do a fund-raiser in Israel? I thought it was illegal to accept contributions from citizens of other countries.

America believes in a free and open press, doesn't it? Sorry, I guess I forget we don't have the same rules for the Republicans. Just what America needs is another Republican President who won't allow the press to cover them openly.

This guy is a crook. He wiped his harddrives clean as he departed his post as MA Gov. He will not release his taxes and now he goes back on an agreement he had with the media. The GOP is so blinded by their unfounded hatred of the current POTUS that they will sacrifice their own positions on disclosure and transparency. What a bunch of hypocrites. The GOP should have nominated Rick Santorum because at least he was true to himself, his beleifs and would be absolute transparent candidate. Romney is bought and paid for by the rich GOP establishment. Hey Tea-Party where is your outrage for having your party swiped from under you by the rich powerful folks that will ship your jobs overseas

Jerusalem fundraiser? So it's legal to go and fundraise internationally for election in our country? No wonder the press is banned.
