Romney campaign bars reporters from Jerusalem fund-raiser

Update: The campaign said Sunday it will now allow the press to cover Romney's remarks at the fund-raiser, but reporters will be escorted out before he takes questions from the audience.

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's presidential campaign will not allow reporters to cover the candidate's Monday fund-raiser in Jerusalem, a campaign aide said Saturday.

That decision is a change in practice from an agreement the campaign and media outlets, including CNN, reached with the campaign last spring.

Romney press aide Rick Gorka told reporters following Romney on his international trip that the fund-raiser was closed press, but offered no explanation as to why. Romney touched down Saturday in Israel and will head later to Poland.

A rotating small number of reporters attend the candidate's fund-raisers held in public places - such as Jerusalem's King David Hotel, the site of Monday's event - and share their reporting with other outlets, but reporters are not allowed into Romney's fund-raisers in private homes.

Several reporters attended part of Romney's fundraiser in London on Thursday.

Among those who may attend the fund-raiser is billionaire Sheldon Adelson, the major Republican donor who last month donated millions to the primary super PAC supporting Romney.

The campaign of President Barack Obama allows a similar pool of reporters to attend some Obama campaign fund-raisers, excluding those at which Obama will not deliver remarks. Some of those venues have included hotel fund-raisers.

Romney's closed-door fund-raisers and his private comments to donors were highlighted when reporters from NBC News and The Wall Street Journal overheard Romney telling donors in a backyard in April that as president he might close the Department of Housing and Urban Development and scale back the Department of Education, items he had not rolled out in public events at the time.

In response to the news, Obama campaign senior adviser David Axelrod tweeted, "After London debacle, Romney team re-institutes Mittness Protection Program. Now media will be barred from his Jerusalem fundraiser."

In another tweet, he added, "Is it because Sheldon Adelson, the SuperPac King, will be among the guests?"

Back room deals and more secret promises. Yeah, Rmoney is exactly what we need, out raising money from foreign donors who wish to buy the US Presidency.

You really have to wonder how badly he is going to screw something up when the close it to the press. I wonder what kind of boot likong he is going to of Sheldon Adelson. How much has he paid in taxes? Romney would try to make it less if he is elected.

Mitt “Cyborg” Romney's visit shouldn't give Israel much confidence or win many Jewish votes. In Mormonism, Mormons are the Chosen People; and Jews are the Gentiles. To gain an existential understanding of the cult that produced Mitt “Cyborg” Romney, and to get your socks scared off read The Assassination of Spiro Agnew, available at:

Its brown-eyed, part-Mexican Mormon assassin dramatizes the Mormon superiority complex manifesting as jingoism and an anti-federal government temperament. It shows the similarities between Islam and Mormonism and reveals the spiritual power behind the cult, which is not the Holy Ghost.

“With a clarity of language and vision unsurpassed in contemporary American prose, Steven Janiszewski's Assassination of Spiro Agnew takes us into a U.S. mazed with madness and Mormonism and all things Utah, a U.S. that was then and still is. Do we need a novel, even as brilliant as this one, about a young man on a divine mission to assassinate the Vice President because he is too liberal? Yes, now more than ever. Readers, welcome to a masterpiece.”

I just bet he won't. Happily, we live in a social media world – – his mistakes, and lies and sucking up to his rich friends WILL make it out to the public somehow..

Another flip flop.... Shall we all do our favorite pastime of conspiracy theory thinking. My version is
Silly simple me!? Some people there are not going to be American citizens but are going to contribute campaign funds, possibly in little brown paper bags of cash going from non citizen to citizen then we dont break the law do we.
Its only money and money does not but votes does it!??

I bet he has. He does not want his Israeli gaffes caught on camera. Mitt tries to hide everything from the American People. If he can't handle being honest, open, and a credible leader, he should have never run for the highest and most important office of President. It is all about the People (or supposed to be as President Obama has done) and being open, accessible, ability to communicate, make critical decisions constantly, and relate and show humanity to the American People and to the world. Romney has no ability to do any of these tasks. He is not Presidential material.

Romney is beginning a secretive style that isn't going to play well as time moves on. He is reluctant to produce his tax papers which has everyone questioning why in as much as this has been a given with former candidates. Now he is restricting press coverage where it as expected........and is it a normal situation for a candidate to go to foreign countries as he is now if he represented the administration??? This is a new one for me and it seems inappropriate some how!! I must have missed something somewhere!!!!

To bad mitt Romney want win no matter what he says he want win if he raised taxes in Massachusetts and outsource jobs and companys away from Massachusetts that's sad the people of Massachusetts the middle class shall not vote for mitt Romney
when you do a fact check on mitt Romney his history you find a man who has lost more jobs and companys in his buisness dealings and as governor of Massachusetts dealings yes he made hundreds of millions
for his degree of success but he has not learned what true wisdom is like king Solomon

  22. ThinkAgain

Hmmmm, let's see ... we can't see his tax records, reporters can't report on campaign events, he won't release the list of donors to his campaign, and if he had his druthers, he'd pull the plug on all the YouTube video showing how he supported gay marriage, abortion rights and the successful implementation of Romneycare in Massachusetts.

    Pretty pathetic!

Its an American election, first he hides his taxes, now he hides this, is this what to expect from a future president ? He was heard in a back yard saying he wants to close the deparment of housing and urban development, and scale back the department of education, GREAT he wants people homeless and uneducated, great for the GOP mantra, that way they dont know how or who to vote. Who in Israel is giving him campain contributions? Isnt that illegal?
