Romney's son plugs 'Built By Us' merchandise jabbing at Obama remark

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's son on Saturday e-mailed supporters promoting a line of merchandise which hits continues to hit President Barack Obama over his comment to business owners that "you didn't build that."

Tagg Romney pitched the "Built By Us Collection," which includes posters, buttons, and T-shirts highlighting the remark, which Romney and other Republicans have criticized.

"Built By Us is a rallying cry, and also a celebration of the people who truly make America work," Tagg Romney said in the e-mail.

At a campaign event in Roanoke, Virginia, on July 13, Obama said: "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges.

"If you've got a business - you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet," he continued.

Republicans seized on the comment, and the Obama campaign responded on Tuesday with an ad which said Republicans are taking his comment out of context.

"Of course Americans build their own business. Every day hardworking people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs, and make our economy run. And what I said was that we need to stand behind them as America always has. By investing in education, training, roads and bridges, research and technology," Obama said in the ad.

One of the Romney campaign T-shirts reads, "Government didn't build my business, I did."

Posters, buttons, and t-shirts also read, "We Built America."

Tagg Romney said in the e-mail that "Dad understands success is not the result of government, it's the result of hardworking people who take risks, create dreams, and build lives for themselves and their families."

"I think we can all agree we need a President who embraces success, instead of demonizing it," he continued. "Dad's the man for the job."

While Romney is overseas - holding meetings with officials in London, Israel, and Poland, among other events - his campaign has continued stateside.

A series of surrogates, including several rumored possible vice presidential candidates, held events for the Romney campaign on Saturday, and several also continued to pressure Obama over his handling of the economy.

This is just pathetic on Romney's part. It was one thing when he took the comment out of context by ignoring the entire story, but this just makes him look pathetic and like a child. Doubt even the GOP will be endorsing this one.

Since Romney lacks policy positions of his own, he immorally lies again by running with words out of context.

Hey, this is like a bad joke.

Romney son, never work a day outside the protection of his mummy and daddy attacked others? Give us a break.

Plain and simple, unlike your parents, without their "BUILT THAT", you may have to find a real job in a real world, learn how to fill out your IRS tax form, pay your due tax.

It is a shame that you do those dirty business to support your own dad.

Do something more meaning with your life, son. There are millions of people out there need real help.

How did business thrive and how did people who wanted to start their own businesses without a silver spoon in their mouths do it. Well they were well educated in business. They went to the banks for loans or to a government assistance program to give them the funding to run a business. What if they didn't need any help at all with any assistance? If they had their own money, they had a right and the freedom to start their own businesses. But then again are they truly alone or did America provide them the privilege and right to do so? You have a right to pursue happiness. That alone let's everyone know whoever wants to start their own businesses in the end have a chance and they don't have to do it alone. Our soldiers died for our right to have our freedom to build our own dreams, so whoever thinks that they did not have help in building their businesses, they should think twice. They should think twice if they thought that they could do it on their own without financial advisers or a great teacher that taught them how to run a business. Romney you have some nerve. I am sure you had help along the way by doing some research and talking to people who were paid to give you advice and to help you become as successful as you are. You would say and do anything to win the election wouldn't you? Pathetic!!

They're getting a lot of mileage from an out-of-context quote that nobody else had any trouble understanding the meaning of.

Do you think he is using the US Post Office to mail the merchandise out? Would those delivery trucks be driving on roads put in place by taxpayers? Did you Romney educate the workers himself? How about design – did he do that all on his own? Will made in China be stamped on the merchandise?

Did Romney's son make those shirts himself? Or are they actually going to be manufactured by other people.. well I hope he at least has the sense not to have them made in china.
