Romney's son plugs 'Built By Us' merchandise jabbing at Obama remark

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's son on Saturday e-mailed supporters promoting a line of merchandise which hits continues to hit President Barack Obama over his comment to business owners that "you didn't build that."

Tagg Romney pitched the "Built By Us Collection," which includes posters, buttons, and T-shirts highlighting the remark, which Romney and other Republicans have criticized.

"Built By Us is a rallying cry, and also a celebration of the people who truly make America work," Tagg Romney said in the e-mail.

At a campaign event in Roanoke, Virginia, on July 13, Obama said: "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges.

"If you've got a business - you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet," he continued.

Republicans seized on the comment, and the Obama campaign responded on Tuesday with an ad which said Republicans are taking his comment out of context.

"Of course Americans build their own business. Every day hardworking people sacrifice to meet a payroll, create jobs, and make our economy run. And what I said was that we need to stand behind them as America always has. By investing in education, training, roads and bridges, research and technology," Obama said in the ad.

One of the Romney campaign T-shirts reads, "Government didn't build my business, I did."

Posters, buttons, and t-shirts also read, "We Built America."

Tagg Romney said in the e-mail that "Dad understands success is not the result of government, it's the result of hardworking people who take risks, create dreams, and build lives for themselves and their families."

"I think we can all agree we need a President who embraces success, instead of demonizing it," he continued. "Dad's the man for the job."

While Romney is overseas - holding meetings with officials in London, Israel, and Poland, among other events - his campaign has continued stateside.

A series of surrogates, including several rumored possible vice presidential candidates, held events for the Romney campaign on Saturday, and several also continued to pressure Obama over his handling of the economy.

– CNN's Kevin Bohn and Gregory Wallace contributed to this report.

ok tagg so dad was hiding in france during the vietnam war.-you and your five brothers were hiding behind your mothers designer skirts and daddys trust fund during the iinvasion and occupation of Iraq and Afganistan – you have no business commenting on anything unless you're addressing the chickenhawks convention, which your father should be at the minimum, an honorary chairman

Like these sons have any room to be criticsizing anyone. Obviously, they were not taught to be respectful and polite towards their elders or to those who have been put into higher positions, such as President.

Is the "Built By Us Collection" owned by LIARS Inc.? So now the Romney campaign can make up any lies they want to and it will be repeated, represented or (dare I say) reported as facts? Sad state for the media. Going downhill along with congress.

When somebody tells you a statement someone made to make you mad, and they don't tell you the sentence before or after the remark which totally changes the meaning of the statement, they are telling you what they think of your intelligence. If you child came home and said "The principle called me in to office today and said "Billy, you're doing great." and the next day the principal calls and tells you what she said was "If you're trying to get thrown out of school then Billy, you're doing great. I've never seen someone who is so determined to ruin their life." . You would think your son takes you for an idiot.
How do you feel now? Like an idiot? I know I would.

Here's the context of the quote that Mittens, his sons and the GOP just love to lie about:

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business - you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet."

I know that's a lot of words for all you knuckle-dragging GOPers, but what the President was trying to say is that no business person created their business entirely on their own, that they had help along the way, including help from the government in the form of infrastructure.

He was simply trying to counter the crazy idea the GOP is promoting that somehow we don't need a government and that everything would be hunky-dory if we'd just like the private sector own and control everything, completely ignoring the FACT that government DOES do a lot of things well (namely, infrastructure).

*Sigh* it's just so pathetic that the GOP base keeps falling for all the BS put out by Mittens and his sons ...

What a twitt. 5 sons and not one joined the military even in the light of 9-11. Their great example supported the draft and the vietnam war but evaded both. Won;t show his income taxes. Destroyed all Gov records and even all Olympic records are gone. Does this guy have something to hide. Me thinks so!

Why did Romney give the exact same speech twice now? Once at the salt lake games with "You didn't get here by yourself, you had great trainers and other help ect ect" and more recently "You didn't make that business successful on your own, you had help and this great American system with roads and bridges."

Its like he is constantly campaigning against himself.

I have a question. Why did the Republicans kill the BRING JOBS HOME ACT? President Obama has been advocating for this bill so companies will come home and things will be "MADE IN AMERICA". Their buttons " BUILT BY US" would make more sense . They are not being honest. They can't have it both ways.

Romney's for President of Lies, Distortion and Hate. The President of no details, just hate Obama...No spine, just hate Obama. This man is a worthless robot of the Tea Party...When is he ever going to tell the truth about anything, His taxes, His business, when was governor , his faith and his detailed vision for America. Instead he lies and distort others, like he did in the primary. I deal with many republicans who say he has no spine and that he is worse than John Kerry (And they cannot stand or trust him) . MITT STOP LYING TO AMERICA. GIVE AMERICA YOU DETAILED PLAN IF YOU HAVE ONE TO STICK TO.

So – the Rmoneys are selling merchandise based on twisting and distorting Obama's words.
Gee - why didn't previous campaigns think of this?
Because the Rmoney's entire line of merchandise is based on a LIE.

While other people were dying for their country in Vietnam Romney was a draft dodger promoting his religion in Vietnam. As the Romney's apparently see it the roads, schools, research, secutiry, and prosperity made possible in our country by all the work of others and government investment had nothing to do with his success. They did it all on their own with just a lot of help from their daddy's money.

Plug This: If the son is so interested in his country, why didn't he suit up and serve in one of the many branches of service? Don't throw crap like this out to the people. Many people have lost a loved one, and don't need to be harassed by the likes of pretty boy, and his off spring. Pretty boy, and his spawn's have never done anything but take, and only given back if there was enough financial encouragement. The media, regardless of venue seems to forget this. Now go plug this, or plug your pie hole.

good business move, make profit off your dads run. At least someone will make something off it.
However, when the finally bell tolls, the misuse, and out of context comment will not do any good. Obama was right, you do NOT get anywhere by yourself. No man is an island, he must cooperate and deal with his fellow man or woman to get anywhere or do anything. Do you think your father got to where he is by himself? If he became president, do you think he put himself there by himself? Bain, is he the only one responsible for it? Those guys that started that garage never had any good breaks by people that liked them? They never had encouragement from friends and family?
At least you will make some profits off the fools that think a man is an island and can make it without help.
I will go to work now, to help my business continue to make world class parts. You see as an employee i HELP my bosses and my corperation succeed. They need 800 of people like me alone at just one of our plants to succeed and make the company a success. I guess somewhere along the line they made the mistake of forgetting they do not need us to help them.

while Romney is at it, I hope he tells his son to prepare for this coming war with Iran, to represent his clan, just like millions of American did with their party's never ending wars since daddy bush.

This non serving son of the bishop is just a liar like his dad.
Why don't they show the whole speech? Of course not, they will continue to hammer us with one comment without giving us the whole thought process because that is what these teapublikkkans (not that he is anything) do.
Blaming jet lag for the remark in England is ludicruous. I don't know about anyone else but I have traveled to Europe and I don't EVER remember sounding as self grandious or full of myself after arriving in England.

Thanks Tag (is that really your name?), "Built by US" is EXACTLY what the president was talking about. Your father's philosophy would be, "Built by ME", if he actually thinks the American economy was built by individuals. Sorry, without a great infrastructure and educational system, you're going to have a third world country.

We're glad to see Tag is also an opportunist– seizing on a complete fabrication by your campaign about what the president actually said– and making money from it. What's that about the apple not falling far from the tree???

Romney knows full well what is he saying Obama said isn't true. He is just trying to get ignorant voters to vote for him. The one dimensional voters who can't grasp more than one idea at a time. They can't view things in two or three dimensions.

Most of the people who buy the bs Romney is pushing wouldn't vote for Obama anyways. There delusions of him have warped their brain.

Obama was right when he said some people cling to their guns and bibles.

Someone built the roads. Someone installed the electricity, the phones, built the trucks for distribution of products, created the computers and programs for your accounting, created a monetary system to collect sales dollars. Someone worked in the factory to make something your product needs, someone gave the owners and staff their education, someone fought many wars to guarantee the freedom to create a business, someone at a bank maybe lends them money that I and others put in the bank to invest in their business. The bigger list goes on and on. Yes, the sweat of a small business owner is totally inspiring, but on their own? One other item, ff you are a business owner and a person of faith, and don't acknowledge the blessings and help of God, is it time for a deep reevaluation?

This tells me sons approve of thei dad's distortions. Hmmm, I thought they would know better....guess not. But, not to worry, those who are interested will read the president's whole remarks. The Romneys just show over and over how dishonest they are. I didn't know this is what the Mormans teach.
