(CNN) – Two senators said Sunday the impending 'fiscal cliff' that would automatically slash billions from the U.S. Department of Defense needed to be avoided, but offered different timetables for resolving the problem.
The so-called "sequester," which would force the Pentagon to cut $500 billion from its budgets over the next decade, came about after congressional negotiators failed to agree on a deficit-reduction plan last fall. Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, one of 74 senators to vote for the measure that included the automatic cuts last August, said Sunday he didn't expect any action to take place on staving off the cuts ahead of November's election.
Jerusalem (CNN) - Mitt Romney's presidential campaign reversed its decision to bar reporters from an upcoming fund-raiser in Jerusalem, saying on Sunday it will now allow a pool of journalists to cover the presumptive GOP nominee's remarks.
The reporters, however, will be escorted out before Romney takes questions from the audience during the event on Monday.
Jerusalem (CNN) - Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, joined by his wife Ann, made a previously unannounced stop at the Western Wall on Sunday while in Jerusalem meeting with Israeli leaders.
Sunday also marks the Jewish holiday of Tisha B'Av, a holy day of mourning and fasting in remembrance of the destruction of the first and second temples.
