(CNN) – Bill Clinton's big speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte may have fewer watching than he would have hoped - the former president's address comes the same night as the NFL's season opener.
Clinton will give a primetime speech on Wednesday, September 5, Democratic sources said Sunday night. That puts him up against the first NFL game of the season, when the Dallas Cowboys will face the New York Giants.

Because the former president will speak Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden will make his primetime speech Thursday night - the final evening of the convention when President Barack Obama accepts the nomination and gives his address.
The campaign will build that evening - occurring before tens of thousands at Bank of America Stadium - as a powerful 1-2 punch and the focal point for the convention. The vice president will precede Obama by talking about the successes the administration has had and challenges it has faced in the first term as he introduces the president, the aide said.
Because of the football game Wednesday, organizers decided to put both of its two major attractions on the last night for maximum exposure.

I'm sure he'll get some people there to listen, but as for me and my wife, I wouldn't miss the opener no matter who spoke.
A comunist obama being supported by a sex offender clinton-makes sense to me,bye obama 2012
well that's what DVR's were made for, right?
Listening to President Clinton is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than watching the most violent sport in existence
wow, who did the scheduling for this?
No contest. President Bill Clinton's speech will be more interesting and entertaining than the football game.
Mitt mitt mitt you should know that in november you gonna lose when the president brotherhood comes together as one you are way over your head mitt Romney
No contest. NFL wins. Can catch what he said on the internet between downs.
I can hear him now.... "I want to meet the three interns from the Virginia delegation...I have a cigar for each one of you..."
Do democrats not have a calendar or are the so sure of themselfs they will win no matter what.
I am going to watch Clinton. We got to stop Robme and the Bush team from getting back into power.
Go Obama / Biden
Would never waste time watching Clinton and Obama and will definitely be watching the football game!
What most seem to forget is that they will be replaying his speech dozens of times on tv stations all over the USA for days after the speech. The live speech may be on during the NFL, but it will be heard for days after. Even if the NFL wasn't on, fewer watch the conventions now than they did 30 years ago.
so the game between teams from two states that are already a lock for each candidate will get more air time in their areas than Clinton's speech.......big whoop
