(CNN) – A television ad from the pro-Mitt Romney super PAC Restore our Future uses the presumptive GOP nominee's experience running the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics as evidence of his leadership ability and financial expertise.
The ad, which the group said would air in battleground states during television broadcasts of the London Games, features gold-medal winning figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and other Olympians praising Romney for his work on the 2002 Games.

"As an athlete, you're training your whole life for that one moment at the Olympics," Yamaguchi says in the ad. Later, she adds: "Mitt Romney brought a huge sense of hope."
Fraser Bullock, the chief operating officer of the 2002 Games, says in the ad that Romney "faced a $400 million budget deficit and turned that around to a $100 million surplus."
Jimmy Shea, who won a 2002 gold medal for ice sledding sport of skeleton, asserts that "Mitt gets things done. He changed my life."
Restore our Future said the ad was part of a previously announced $7.2 million ad buy for spots running during the Olympics.
Romney's campaign often points to his handling of the 2002 Olympics as an example of his leadership qualities and financial acumen. Romney attended Friday's opening ceremony in London, a move that highlighted his work on the Salt Lake City Games.
Last week, a rival super PAC released a spot using the Olympic "parade of nations" to mock Romney's reported overseas investment accounts. The group, Priorities USA, pulled the ad after the U.S. Olympic Committee registered a complaint because of copyright concerns.
The U.S.O.C. said Monday they would not take legal action against the Restore our Future ad, but that they prefered the Olympics not be used in political advertising.
"While we obviously prefer that that the Olympic Games would not be referenced in any political advertisement, as neither the Olympic symbols, nor Olympic footage is used in this ad, we are not going to take legal action. However, we continue to ask that the Olympic Games not be part of political advertisements," Patrick Sandusky, a U.S.O.C. spokesman, wrote in a statement.

Another should be: "Super PAC ad uses BAIN to tout Romney's Business experience"
I wonder if Yamaguchi has taken into consideration how many of her training facilities were paid for with public funds. I wonder if she can connect enough of the dots and realize that Mitt Romney would cut such things out his budgets as wasteful spending.
How much was she paid to say that ?
Kristi Yamaguchi can't be serious in her support for Romney when his plan would decimate any kind of government investment in US athletes. If Kristi is really serious about the future of US athletics then she really ought to take a look at whose plan; Romney cutting investments in US athletics or Obama making investments in US athletics, would be better for athletics in this country. It’s an easy choice. You don't need a scientist or a brain surgeon to figure this out. More investment equals better performance and results (for example, China has been investing heavily in their athletic program over the last 10 years and they moved from 8th place in terms on medal count in the 2000 Olympics to number one today). Do we need any more proof? Kristi should look at facts and not politics. Facts speak the loudest but sometimes, by the time we realize it, it’s too late or the damage has already been done.
Did she give her permission to use her in the ad? If so, I feel sorry for her. This guy need to go back to wherever he came from and shut up. Where are your tax returns mittens? You will not hear the end of this request, until you do!
More outright falsehoods from the Flip man and his cronies. Someday MAYBE some of the sheep will see him for what he really is and say "no thanks." Then again, sheep aren't very smart so forget it
I don't know when Mitt took over the 2002 Olympics from the people that misused the funding acquired and bribed the IOC to vote for SL to get the games that year, but he most certainly had help with security. On 12/28/2001, Congress signed into the NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2002 that: " It is the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Defense, upon receipt of the certification of the Attorney General required by section 2564(a) of title 10, United States Code, should authorize the provision of assistance in support of essential security and safety at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, and other locations in the State of Utah." How's that for not using government resources? This reads to me like a blank check ...
Running the Olympics for money, does not mean his ready for being the President.
Organizing donors and making it so your Bain companies can get a little love has nothing to do with running the country.
>Thomas – How much was she paid to say that ?
the same amount as obamas hollywood supporters???
"If Kristi is really serious about the future of US athletics then she really ought to take a look at whose plan; Romney cutting investments in US athletics or Obama making investments in US athletics"
Well, this is news to me. I wasn't aware either candidate had "a plan" with respect to "investments in athletics". Can you please share the source of your information on these competing plans?
Mittens took millions in federal aid from the US taxpayers to save the Olympics. Yamaguchi should read Mittens' 2004 book, Turnaround, in which Mittens wrote, "No matter how well we did cutting costs and raising revenue, we couldn't have Games without the support of the federal government."
Another thing Yamaguchi should read is this from Sports Illustrated reporters Donald Barlett and James Steele (2001): "The $1.5 billion in taxpayer dollars that Congress is pouring into Utah is 1.5 times the amount spent by lawmakers to support all seven Olympic Games held in the U.S. since 1904—combined" (Those numbers were adjusted for inflation.)
In other words, the Salt Lake Olympics were a prime example of SOCIALISM.
Great story, now show us your tax returns.
Will the olympics be running for president? This is not something Mitt should be proud of since he got the money from the government in the first place, but the repubs don't want to hear that. They keep protecting this bafoon for a reason and we all know what that reason is. First they yell less government then they take the taxpayers dollars for their own use, like Mitts tax returns. The rich are using the poor to get richer and to keep us poorer. Wake up America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do unemployed athletes do when they run out of money?
The stupid superpac may not even know whether those winter olympic champions will support the republican party in November.
Let's check the care-o-meter:
Yep. Just as I thought: I really don't give a crap what Yamaguchi and others have to say in terms of helping Mittens take credit for something the federal government gave him the money to do.
Mittens is all about investing other people's money to make a profit for himself and his cronies. He did it with the Olympics, he did it with Bain Capital, and now he wants to do it as president. His response to the housing crisis is typical: Let folks lose their homes so investors can buy them up and rent them back.
Mittens firmly believes that what is best for America is to let investors own and control everything, and the rest of us can just hope to be lucky enough to be born into wealth, because Lord knows, under the Ryan plan that Mittens supports, you won't get any help from all the taxes you pay to continue funding the overseas investment of the wealthy.
Big deal. I want to see the tax returns.
