Team Obama seeks to convert on Romney 'fumbles'

(CNN) - If Mitt Romney has indeed fumbled the football overseas, President Barack Obama's campaign may well be seen as spiking it.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Monday the Republican presidential candidate's overseas trip has put his readiness for the Oval Office in question.

"He's now been to two countries and he's had two countries where he has made a series of fumbles," she said. "He's been fumbling the foreign policy football from country to country.

And there's a threshold question that he has to answer for the American people and that's whether he is prepared to be commander-in-chief," she continued. "As we look to the past events, we know that this raises some questions about his preparedness and we'll see how the rest of his trip goes."

Psaki was referring to what some have seen as Romney's missteps over the last several days in London and Israel.

In London, some saw his answer to a question about the Olympic games as a gaffe.

"You know it's hard to know just how well it will turn out," he said in an interview with NBC News, explaining that issues with a private security contractor and labor issues were "disconcerting." After a meeting with the British prime minister, who himself responded to Romney's remarks, the candidate said he was "very delighted with the prospects of a highly successful Olympic Games."

The episode brought mocking headlines from British newspapers his way.

Days later, a prominent Palestinian leader called out one of Romney's statements in Jerusalem "racist."

Palestinian negotiator Sa'eb Erekat said Romney's "racist statements about the Israeli culture being superior to the Palestinian culture reflect someone who needs to be educated, who needs knowledge." Romney pointed out a wealth disparity between Israel and the areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority.

Psaki's Monday statement - made to reporters on Monday - is the latest in a volley over Romney's foreign trip. On Sunday, Robert Gibbs, a senior adviser to Obama's reelection campaign, said "I think it's clear that voters in this country wonder aloud whether Mitt Romney is ready for the world."

Romney adviser Kevin Madden said Sunday that any gaffes in the campaign would be overshadowed in voters' eyes.

"I don't think that a gaffe or a YouTube moment is really going to make or break this particular election," he said on ABC News' "This Week." "I think it's going to be about the direction of the country, how we rebuild the economy, how we continue to have a stronger national security posture around the globe."

But on Monday, Psaki had a different perspective: "I think 'foreign policy fumble' has a nice ring to it."

Romney's trip continued in Poland on Monday.

The pathetic Republican response is palpable and quite unconvincing.

I have never thought Romney was ready to be our President. He is arrogant and does not think before he opens his mouth. I think he is racist because of what his faith has taught him. I wish the media would ask him if he believes what The Book Of Mormon teaches about black people not being human.

  3. Hey, Mittens, got any more of those 100K Bain jobs for doing nothing? 'Call Me, Maybe'?

"I don't think that a gaffe or a YouTube moment is really going to make or break this particular election,"

Unless of course, the entire "listen and learn" tour for foreign policy "chops" by Team Robme can be boiled down to one 3 word punchline to an international joke.

    "Mitt the Twit"!

    Only "media" fumbles.

Britain has screwed up preparing for the Olympics on a few major issues.

Defeat the Obama press in 2012!!

Clearly , Romney has shown that he is an embarrasment to the U.S. . He insulted the U.K. when he said
that they were not prepared to handel Sec. . Even the Mayor of London a conservative was put out
by Romey´s comments . In Israel , even while Romney was there , top Israeli defense ministers stated
that relations and cooperation between the U.S. and Israel "Have never been better " and were praising
the work of the Obama administration . In Poland Thousands of people were chanting "Obama" . Romey´s
trip has proven one thing . Romney is not qualified to be president .

Mr. Romney's trip did not show any understanding of foreign policy. This trip was not the success he hoped it would be.

No matter what Romney does....short of starting a war, the people who hate Obama will sing praises for him. It's just ignorance and arrogance at It's worst.

Romney just told the truth. Obama's 'fumbles' with his visit to U.K were far worst. I wouldn't want to play that game of who's more embarrassing abroad if i was Obama and his team.

Just about everything Romney says is a YouTube moment! He's either flip-flopping, making statements that are easily disproved or hiding stuff, such as his tax returns! Now he's running around the globe like the sequel of Dubya! We have a qualified, competent, diplomatic & inclusive president, w/many great ideas how to move the nation forward! I'm not sure why any1 would even entertain the idea of voting for Romney, in the light of the last 6 months! I suppose just like the GOTP, many people put party before common sense! Sad to see!! Obama/Biden 2012!!

That won't be too hard. The only thing Romney didn't do was climb on his dressage horse wearing a tutu and belt out another off-key version of 'America The Beautiful'.

Somebody, anybody, please bring this guy Romney home before he starts a war without pushing the "Red Button". He's gonna have the whole World shooting at us and they won't be shooting off at the mouth like Romney. But I do have to admit, I kinda feel sorry for him because he's in way over his head.

This is not exactly a victory tour for Romney. Just in the last two weeks Romney has ticked off the Australian Prime Minister by "spinning" his words to mean the opposite of what he was really saying. He has become the butt of jokes in the UK with his pompous criticism of the Olympics. He has managed to disparage non Anglo-Saxons and Palestinians. He gave a verbal green light to Israel to attack Iran, increasing tensions in the region between Israel and Palestinians and Israel and Iran. He has called out our duly elected natural born President as being "foreign." He collected an endorsement from outspoken communist Walesa (palling around with Communists) and been thoroughly trashed by the Unions in Poland. He has also removed all doubt as to what Adleson wants in return for his $100 million in campaign funds – war with Iran. So how many trillions and lives is THAT going to cost us if Romney is elected. This ham handed fumbler needs to come home before he does any more damage.

I hope they do and they will not have to take anything out of context as the romney team has done when quoating the president. Milktoast has been putting his foot in his mouth since he landed on foreign soil. So much for his listening and learning tour. Forward 2012

Bear in mind that Romney has experience at running the Olympics. He was asked a question, and responded with the truth. Anyone who has experience in a certain area will and can sometimes see something others can't. Romney's answer was telling the truth in London.
As for Israel, Romney went to Jerusalem because that is the capital of Israel (not to mention Jerusalem has been the capital for hundreds of years).

Obama has to try and convert on any flubs by Romney. Otherwise he has nothing to talk about. He cannot run on his record.

Romney's mouth will get us into another expensive and unnecessary war.

He has no clue how to behave in other countries and that could be dangerous.

Tthe UK newspapers say: "Mitt the Twit."

Here in the USA, we say: "Show us your income tax returns. What are you hiding?"
