Romney aide loses cool, curses at press in Poland

Warsaw, Poland (CNN) - The traveling press secretary for Mitt Romney lost his cool and cursed at reporters who attempted to ask questions of the Republican presidential candidate in a public plaza near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw Tuesday.

After Romney paid his respects to Poland's war dead and shook hands with a small gathering of the nation's military veterans, the GOP contender walked approximately 100 yards away from the memorial as he chatted with Warsaw's mayor.

As Romney made his way to his vehicle, reporters attempted to shout questions to the candidate. The former Massachusetts governor, who has answered only three questions from his traveling press corps during a week-long overseas trip, ignored the queries. Romney did sit down for multiple interviews during his foreign swing, including with CNN's Piers Morgan and Wolf Blitzer. Romney also spoke with NBC News, CBS News, ABC News and Fox News during his trip.

When members of the press tried to ask Romney about some of the mishaps on his trip, his traveling press secretary Rick Gorka verbally dressed down reporters.

Here's a transcript of the questions and Gorka's response:

CNN: "Governor Romney are you concerned about some of the mishaps of your trip?

NYT: "Governor Romney do you have a statement for the Palestinians?

Washington Post: "What about your gaffes?

NYT: "Governor Romney do you feel that your gaffes have overshadowed your foreign trip?"

CNN: "Governor Romney just a few questions sir, you haven't taken but three questions on this trip from the press!

Gorka: "Show some respect"

NYT: "We haven't had another chance to ask a question..."

Gorka: "Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect."

Moments later, Gorka told Jonathan Martin, a reporter for Politico, to "shove it." About a half-hour later, the aide called reporters to apologize.

Gorka's comments to the media came just hours before Romney's foreign policy speech in Warsaw.

Aides to the GOP candidate say Romney visited Poland to highlight the nation's growing economy and honor its contributions to the war in Afghanistan.

Can understand the aide's frustration. Understand that the traveling press wants an interview of some sort. That said, this was not an appropriate venue for questions. Mr. Romney should make time for the press. If he does not want to do so then he should not run for office. Regardless of how misguided the questions are, he still needs to let the press ask him questions. The press needs to learn to be respectful when a public figure is at a memorial site.

If Romeny didn't want all the press, he wouldn't be paying tens of millions to hype "exclusive interviews" on all the networks not to mention pouring millions into the local economies over there by buying their food and busing spectators so he will have a "crowd". The media ought to show more of this stupidity instead of these "arranged interviews".

I don't think he should have apologized. Some segments of the media are disrespectful and intrusive, and many over-estimate their importance to the world.

Aww, the gaffe just isn't the same without it coming from the gaffe-king Mitt. I say CNN should just let this one slide. Next time Mitt opens his mouth I'm sure he'll have a gaffe 10 times better than this.

I can't believe I find myself in this position but...
I'm with Romney's press secretary. Show some respect for the ground you're treading on. I certainly hope they wouldn't do the same thing at the American one.

Wow, total class. News flash, the press corps are always pushing buttons, you don't take the bait you crybaby whiners. If these are the kind of unprofessional clowns Romney has decided to surround himself with he's going to have a lot more trouble than just explaining away how Romneycare is any different than Obamacare.

As long as you have a bafoon like Rob-n-mey to work for then incidents like this are bound to happen, because you have to pull out all the stops to cover up for his blunders. The more he talks, the more interesting this campaign is goingto be. Let the circus begin!!!!!

Looks like Gorka needs to show some respect: Gorka: "Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect."

If you respected it, you would not have made it a stopping point on your political blunders tour of the world!

Good. It's time that these intrusive reporters get put in their place. It's harassment, if you ask me, and it was aptly handled. It's just like what the paparazi do to these celebrities and I'm sick of it. ROMNEY 2012
