Clinton to headline event for pro-Obama super PAC

(CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton will headline an event in August for a super PAC supportive of President Barack Obama, a spokesman for Priorities USA Action confirmed to CNN on Thursday.

The group, run by former Obama White House officials, has struggled to keep pace with Restore Our Future, the major super PAC supporting Mitt Romney.

But recent figures have shown the group is speeding up in its fund-raising efforts, bringing in $6.1 million in June for a total of $16 million for the year. And Wednesday, the super PAC said it was reserving a whopping $30 million in broadcast and cable ad time come this fall.

Meanwhile, Restore Our Future announced it had raised $20 million in June.

Clinton, who appeared with Obama at major fund-raising events in New York in June, will further solidify his role as a major player in this year's election when he delivers a prime time speech at the Democratic National Convention in September.

The former president also joined Obama at an April fund-raiser in Virginia.

The New York Times first reported news of the event.

- CNN's Kevin Bohn and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Obama's record is so bad that he has to run on Clinton's? How desperate can he be?

The American people will not tolerate a 2 vs 1 deal.
    Prez 0 is a idiot!
His job approval numbers are under 50 % in 37 states.
You do not win the prez with only 13 states.
The numbers do not add up.

What does "sold out" mean?! By teaming up with the serial liar Mr. Obama, this supposedly smart man is jeopardizing Hillary's big time dreams (presidency).

Oops! Sorry... I forgot Mr. Clinton likes to fib too...

    Oh well...
