Washington (CNN) – The Obama campaign has taken the extraordinary step of booking $77 million in additional ad time starting Friday and running through Election Day, a Republican ad buying source told CNN.
The new buy is for thirty second broadcast TV spots that will run in eight battleground states.

Through Thursday Team Obama will have spent at least $106 million in general election ads – more than twice what the Mitt Romney campaign has bought. This buy will bring his total media purchase so far this cycle to almost $190 million.
However, GOP groups, such as American Crossroads and its affiliate Crossroads GPS and Restore Our Future, the super PAC backing Mitt Romney have helped to give Republicans an overall spending advantage in recent weeks for ad spending compared to the Obama re-election campaign and its supporters.
As the general election media war heats up – especially after the party conventions wrap up – this move will allow the re-election campaign to ensure it can place its commercials in these key battlegrounds although the move could take a major dent out of its bank account.
Voters in these battleground states have already complained they have been inundated with political commercials – which in recent months have been largely attack spots. However, from all indications that onslaught will continue. Republican-leaning groups are expected to spend around $1 billion in presidential and congressional races this election cycle with a majority of that money being devoted to ad spending, sources familiar with the groups have told CNN.
Team Obama had no comment on this latest buy.
Politico first reported earlier this week that Obama's campaign was reserving ad time through Election Day.
Here is the breakdown of the new Obama buy:
New Hampshire: $4,939,620
North Carolina: $7,647,844

boy this election is gonna be close. The Prez ain't helping himself too much either. Not only is he actually continuing all his predeccosors policies pretty much, he even ECHOs him in his commercials "I approve this message", something an imbecile sez in the mirophone when he can't think of anything meaningful to say.. he courts the gay vote and gun liberals at the expense of alienating independents, for nothing, because those 2 groups ain't gone Republican anyway.
and so much for transparency(fast & furious investigation)..
Bravo Mr. President. Keep up the good work.
with everything that is going on...isn't this a bit insane. that much of one person will prove people will turn him off Why not hit the reasons we are all going broke. Ever heard of lead by example??? Anyone can promise the world but this is taking food off the plate of the ones needing it the most. children are hungry and uneducated because of this sort of thing. So, He is a charter member in the 1% club...otherwise he would consider the ones that need his help most. Screw them, I will buy me an election...ha ha ha...stupid americans cannot see what I have already done or what i plan to do. B.O.
What a waste of money because we do not listen to his B.S. ad's. We all know it's crap and will continue to be crap. Save your money and don't give anymore to the worst President ever. Everything he has promised was a lie, not to mention the dept he has put this country in.
Anybody but Obama in 2012.
Obama is tryiing to BUY his way into getting re-elected.
God I hope this guy never gets re-elected. He makes me sick.
I already turn the TV channel when his ads start already..more ads
is not going to cut it with me.
I'd give this 'Bozo' more credence if he'd take all that money & give it to a 'Good Cause' instead of 'Wasting' it on trying to get Re-elected. But I guess that's the New America – whoever spends the most money usually wins the 'Pot of Gold', LOL
SOCK IT TO 'EM!!!! And when you think about it – all you have to do is tell the truth!!!

" have helped to give Republicans an overall spending advantage in recent weeks for ad spending"
You're forgetting to count the value of the lapdog media's "reporting" toward the Obama campaign.
Once you factor in the operating budgets of WaPo, NY TImes, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and myriad smaller newspaper and "news" stations, the Obama campaign is still massively outspending Romney.
Great. Every commercial on TV here in Nevada right now seems like an Obama commercial. I don't care about Romney's tax returns. I also don't care that he was an evil capitalist. The economy in Las Vegas is terrible. Stores boarded up, vacant office space, and absolutely no hope for improvement. I don't know if Romney would do better, but I'm willing to roll the dice. And an Obama commerical every minute ain't gonna change my mind. 0
77 million buys a lot of lies.
Chicago smells blood in the water.
All the money in the world won't save this buffoon Obama from his upcoming defeat.
"The Obama legacy: "You didn't build that."
Go back to the muder capital, Chicago you marxist clown!
I realize that spending that kind of money on a campaign is necessary today it seems. Although, I can sure think of better ways to spend that money that would help people of this nation.
It is the wealthy, taking care of the wealthy.
Politics is no longer the opportunity of the midlle class. Just think 2 generations ago a kid could dream he could be president. No longer true. You need corporations or money printing to get to the first stage of the election.
Ignoring partisan discussion. Does anyone else miss the days where PAC's weren't chipping in hundreds of millions to campaigns? I wonder what the election this year would look like if it was based solely of the candidates ability to raise money within the US from real, living, supporters.
I mean, come on, the amounts these two are slinging could be put to a much better use.
