
Washington (CNN) - The conservative, nonprofit advocacy group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is buying more than $20 million for commercials in 11 key battleground states, a Democratic ad buying source confirmed to CNN on Thursday.
The group, partially funded by the influential Charles and David Koch, is one of the major players when it comes to the ad wars this campaign season.

BREAKING: THE U.S. WANTS A SOFTER LANDING IN SYRIA… A U.S. official tells CNN’s Elise Labott that “we are going to get there,” in regards to Syria. The official requested anonymity in order to speak candidly about the United States’ strategy in the country. “We want to get there in a way that’s a softer landing. We don’t want the institutions to just melt away,” the official said when asked about the possibility of providing nonlethal assistance and humanitarian aid to the opposition.
Winter Park, Florida (CNN) - Buoyed by a recent poll indicating a 6-point lead in the crucial swing state of Florida, President Obama addressed an enthusiastic crowd in the Orlando suburb of Winter Park while making a particular birthday request only two days before he turns 51.

FULL STORY(CNN) – While making a campaign stop Thursday in Colorado, Mitt Romney said he met with McKayla Hicks, a victim of last month's movie theater massacre in Aurora.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee began his remarks by mentioning Hicks, who was hit by a bullet that took out some teeth and part of her jaw while seated in the theater next to the one where most of the shootings occurred.

Washington (CNN) - Back in April House Speaker Boehner raised some alarm bells when he said there was a one in 3 chance Republicans would lose control of the House. But with 96 days until the election Boehner is sounding more optimistic.
"I'm feeling better," Boehner replied when asked about that previous assessment at his weekly press conference on Capitol Hill.

Washington (CNN) - Members of the House Ethics Committee have voted unanimously to spend up to $500,000 extending the contract of a special counsel examining alleged wrongdoing by California Rep. Maxine Waters, according to a committee statement released Thursday.
Prominent Washington attorney Billy Martin was hired to take charge of the roughly three-year investigation last summer, at a cost of up to $800,000, in order to investigate reports of possible improper communication between committee attorneys and lawmakers on the ethics panel. His contract has been extended twice and runs through the end of the current Congress.

Here's one clue: Romney's longtime adviser Beth Myers, who has been tasked with heading up the campaign's search for a running mate, will be traveling with the Republican presidential hopeful on Thursday when he arrives in Colorado to meet with GOP governors, according to a source familiar with the trip.
