Romney meets with Colorado shooting victim

(CNN) – While making a campaign stop Thursday in Colorado, Mitt Romney said he met with McKayla Hicks, a victim of last month's movie theater massacre in Aurora.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee began his remarks by mentioning Hicks, who was hit by a bullet that took out some teeth and part of her jaw while seated in the theater next to the one where most of the shootings occurred.

"But she is here and doing well," Romney said at a speech in the city of Golden. He called for the audience to express solidarity for the victims and their families.

"I guess, maybe by applause we show how united we are with the tragedy of those people, how much we love them how much we care for them," he said.

The weekend following the July 20 shooting, both Romney and President Barack Obama suspended campaign activities and stripped their ads from Colorado airwaves.

Two days after the massacre, which killed 12 and left scores wounded, Obama flew to Aurora to meet with families of the victims.

At a San Francisco fundraiser the same day, Romney said it was the "right thing" for the president to visit the town.

"I know the president will be there before he'll be here in San Francisco visiting with families and the victims, which is the right thing for the president to be doing on this day. I appreciate that," Romney said.

Really? That tragedy was weeks ago, I guess his Dressage event was more important.

I really hope that he doesn't have gaffe with such a serious topic. If he did, it would be the end of his campaign for sure. It would be like winning a boxing match because your opponent tripped and broke his arm between rounds. I would rather see a knockout.

""how much we love them how much we care for them,"" he said.

What he didn't say is that he has absolutely no intention of doing anything for them if (God forbid) he becomes President.
He won't fight for stricter gun laws and he'll take away their affordable health care.

What I would like to know is who is paying this poor woman's medical bills? It sounds like she'll be needing reconstructive surgery and prosthetics even after she recovers from the initial trauma injuries. Who's going to pick up the tab for all that? Her insurance company (if she has one)? Mitt Romney? The NRA?

Politicizing a tragedy. He's not president (yet, if ever). Comments from afar are just fine.

Mitt the twit has the tea potty on his back calling for him to move to the right,or else. CNN skips over that for coverage of his horse. When it rains,it pours for Mitt the twit.

when President Obama does things like this, certain right wingers claim it's a "photo op"........so I guess when Romney does it then it's either from the goodness of his heart, or????????

According to the hospitals, any expenses not covered by insurance, whether any is in force, will be absorbed by the hospitals themselves.

I'm confused; why did Mittens meet with this woman and no other victims of the shooting? I just sounds like he was on his way to the Aspen Mittens-PAC coordination meeting and someone told him he should stop by and say a few words to a average American to help offset the fact that his campaign is fully-funded by and for the top 0.5% ...

Lisa P: I am sure if he did say he would pay her medical bills, you democrats will say that he is buying her vote. So please make such a stupid comment.

Oh Willard, please shut up and show us those taxes. What happened in Colorado was a horrible tragedy but that was 2 weeks ago. Where were you then? Look Robmey, you are not the POTUS and you never will be, so please stop fronting. We have one President at a time and you are not him. I wonder if he mentioned he doesn't feel we need stricter gun laws.

November can't get here fast enough for me. I can't wait until I can quit looking at this liar and his smushed face wife.

    OBAMA 2012!

    ---------------
The first I heard of that was over a week ago. It was said that as least five of the hospitals were waving the bills because so many patients didn't have any health insurance. That would cover bills you would get from the hospitals, but I do not know if that applies to the bills you would get from the doctors themselves. No word about actual doctor bills .

    AI- NY,NY,

President Obama did what a President should do during a National tragedy. He was there for the fires and have been there for all national tragedies. Not just fly by photos.

And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. The hospital will pass this cost on to everyone else same as they always do. $25 for an aspirin... $600 to read an x-ray... ect ect.

What about the guy who was shot in the eye and I heard his bills would top 1 million dollars by the time he is discharged... Will the hospital absorb that as well? LOLOLOL

In what capacity he met with the victims? The guy hasn't nominated by the Republican Party yet, He never had a job for the last 10 years unless running for office is counting as a job. Even he said he is unemployed similar to the rest of the unemployed people. For sure he cannot be president because last time he lost for the guy who lost for the current president. He was rejected then what is the difference now? I don't hear new ideas.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Where do you think the hospitals get the $$$ that enables them to "absorb" those costs – from the Keebler elves? They get it by gouging the insured.
