Obama closer to breaking even on jobs

New York (CNNMoney) - Is President Obama a job creator? Not yet. But he might be by Election Day.

The American economy only has to add another 316,000 jobs to get back to where it was in January 2009, when the president was sworn in.

But Obama keeps saying all the time he has created millions of jobs. Guess he just counts jobs created since he took office, not jobs lost. Thanks CNN to clearing this up. Truth is everyone already knows this. Everyone also knows Obama's stimulus was supposed to generate all kinds of great economic and job growth. Unemployment was supposed to never reach 8% (been over that for 42 straight months) and was supposed to be down to 6% by now. Total fail!!!! Obama did not say at the time the stumulus was passed that more would be needed later to make his promises come true. Now wants taxpayers to pony up hundreds of billions more to do more of the same kind of stimulus that already failed. Some might call that insane.

It's pretty obvious the Gop has been trying to tank the economy for president Obamas whole term and continous to do so and then blame him for high unemployment ,so let's thank them for their efforts with a Gop train wreck with romney the TWIT and BACHMANN the goof on board, and many other Gop bums along for the ride!!!!!!!!!!!!

the unemployment rate went down from 9.3 percent. That's progress no matter how you look at it. And if bush had created jobs, then Obama would have created 4 million jobs. So he is creating jobs no matter how you look at it.

Republicans say government doesn't create jobs.
Republicans say Bush Tax breaks for the job creators makes jobs.
Republicans made it their priority on day one not to cooperate with the sitting President.

I wouldn't be surprised if Republicans told their 1percent job creator buddies to hold off on hiring until they get their guy into office, who would then give those job creators even greater tax breaks if they start hiring so they can say the 'fixed what Obama couldn't".

w I jones, that's right the government creates jobs, has nothing to do with individuals or the drive to succeed, just wait a while and the government will let you know where, how or when to create jobs or start a business.

What a crock! The real unemployment number is 15% and the media touts the hiring of 163,000 workers, probably minimun wage positions, as the end of jobless worries.
Anything to sell the voters another lie.

the recession ended 3 years ago. 3 years ago! this is pathetic. we need 3 million jobs A YEAR to keep up with population growth. obama brags about 4 million jobs like it is some great achievement. we should have had 9 million job created! obama and the democrats are huge drag on jobs and the economy. they have to go if the country is to ever recover and have robust job growth. otherwise, we will continue with the obama/democrat jobs disaster.

    >anthony76 – Republicans made it their priority on day one not to cooperate with the sitting President.

they refused to go along with policies that they knew were going to be disastrous. they were right!! they tried to save obama and this country but they were over rulled by obama and the democrats and that is why you have the jobs disaster we have now in this country.

Namejkane........ Right blame the republicans, you forgot Pres.Bush. Was it not the democrats that started with, LET'S MAKE PRES. BUSH A ONETERM PRESIDENT, filibuster everything and make sure we won't get blamed.
Now we have a President who tells everyone we are on the right tract, UP, unemployment welfare, got to go to get my MASSAGE, WALK to the tennis court, READ the rules, do an ERRAND for a friend (get a towel for the lounge chair), so I can qualify for welfare under the new EXECUTIVE ORDER signed by Pres. Obama and I don't have to look for a job. Thank you DEMOCRATS and PRES.OBAMA, you got my vote, let's see what you can do for me in your second term.

CNN has been running feel good stories of people who have recently found jobs and of course want to vote for Obama What a suprize !!! If this were a Republican Pres CNN would be running dozens of horror stories per week of the poor unemployed and underemployed complete of the sad music and picturers of children looking forlorn etc. etc. etc.

Its got to be hard for the editors and producers in the liberal media to think of ways to spin the news every day.

you do know that the unemployment rate can drop because people just stop looking for jobs right? well that is exactly why the unemployment rate has dropped. it hs not dropped because the creation of new jobs.

Obama only breaks even if we choose to ignore the 250,000 per month increase needed to keep up with the US population..., as CNN obviously does.

  14. 96 Days until Obama is RE-ELECTED

Don't worry Amurikan peoples... Willard has a plan to create 12 million jobs in his first term.. like all things from Mr. Flip-flip, he's go to get elected first, then he'll share his plan. The lack of intelligence displayed by the red state lemming population is outstanding.

Of course,. Obama would have had to create 12 million more jobs to actually break even..., historically speaking.

►The American economy only has to add another 316,000 jobs to get back to where it was in January 2009, when the president was sworn in.◄ And when he gets there, maybe the American people that still has doubts will realize what he has done in the meantime – for instance, killing bin Laden for – ONE, The affordable Care Act – TWO, Don't ask don't tell – THREE, Bank Regulations – FOUR, Ended the War in Iraq – FIVE and I can go on and on but it would take a full page to do so!!!

According to CBS news even though 163,000 jobs were created in July (the most jobs created since February) the reason the unemployment rate is 8.3% is because there are more people looking for a job than jobs that were created and we need 250,000 per month created consistently to bring down unemployment back to an acceptable unemployment rate of 5-6%. Bottom line, not enough jobs created for all those standing in the unemployment line.

Three years after the recession "officially" ended, roughly 12.8 million Americans remain unemployed, and 40.7% of them have been so for six months or more.

Not one new NET job has been created under Obama. Something we all knew but from the spin of the liberal media you would think were in the Clinton or Reagan years. Obama did not have the experience to be President and that is exactly what we got. He sure can campaign but other than that he is and has been pitiful.

@Hammerer – "The real unemployment number is 15%"
Is the "U6" unemployment number the one you want to use? Were you saying that when Reagan or Bush were President, or do you just want to use a different measuring stick because you don't like Obama? The U3 unemployment number is the one that has been used for decades. Let's keep the comparisons "apples to apples". The "crock", as you put it is holding this president to different standards that others have been held.

The "crock" is the GOP campaigning on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs and then doing everything they can to prevent recovery. How many useless attempts to repeal healthcare revorm? 33! How many anti abortion bills? About the same number. How many silly pieces of legislation like reaffirming that In God we Trust is the national motto, when it was never disputed? Dozens. How may votes on the Presidents jobs bill? ZERO!!!

  22. America Beautiful--Without GOP/TP

GOP/TP has made their number one priority to discredit/destroy democratically elected Obama from the day one (how sickening!!!) and they have and continue to do major damages while disgustingly ignore the "selected" president Bush's pushing the country off the cliff. Bush left the county in a deep crap and it takes a great POTUS like Obama, even with all the intentional and malicious destruction of the country by GOP/TP.

If Public Sector employment was what it was in 2009, Obama would already be in the plus column. Who do you think is holding that back ? Rush Limbaugh-"I hope Obama fails". Sen. Mitch McConnell-'Our No. 1 Priority is to make Obama a One Term Prez".

And why does Congress get a pass? I think share more of the responsibility than the President does. Why do we even pay these people? They work 2 months out of the year and make upwards of $100,000. It's shameful. I'll take President Obama any day over those folks. Speaker Boehner – where are the jobs? Oh yeah, you're on vacation – again!

Congressional Republican under the failed leadership of Boehner, Cantor, McConnell along with those Congressmen that belong to that extremist group called the Tea Party are prolonging this recession and holding back the recovery. They submit legislation on everything but the economy. When the bread basket that feeds the world is in trouble what is Congressional Republicans priority......VACATION. Congressional Republican haven’t kept their promises so I say vote the bums out.
