Tea Party Express backs Neumann in Wisconsin

(CNN) – The Tea Party Express continued its slate of endorsements Friday, throwing its support behind U.S. Senate candidate Mark Neumann ahead of Wisconsin's Republican primary August 14.

"The Tea Party is united behind Mark Neumann because he is the proven conservative in the race," Tea Party Express Chairwoman Amy Kremer wrote in a statement. "Mark earned the support of the Tea Party Express, and Tea Party members from every corner of Wisconsin, because he is the only one with a plan that cuts spending, balances the budget and repeals ObamaCare. He understands that we must get back to Constitutional principles in Washington. And, he is the one we can trust to stand up to Barack Obama."

A poll taken in mid-July indicated Neumann, a former congressman, is running a distant third in the GOP battle behind former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson and banking executive Eric Hovde. The survey from Marquette Law School showed Thompson with support from 35% of likely Republican primary voters, compared to 23% who backed Hovde and 10% who supported Neumann.

The winner of the GOP primary will go on to face Democratic Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin in November's general election. The victor in that race will replace Sen. Herb Kohl, a four-term Democrat who announced he was not running for re-election in May 2011.

The Tea Party Express was active in June's gubernatorial recall election in Wisconsin, campaigning for the state's Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Walker survived the recall vote, which was sparked after cuts to collective bargaining rights for unions.

In the presidential general election, CNN rates Wisconsin as "Lean Obama." The state went for Obama by roughly 14 points in the 2008 election.

In a statement, Neumann said he was "honored" by the backing from Tea Party Express.

"They represent the values that our Founding Fathers built our great nation on and that folks here in Wisconsin hold dear. Their endorsement is more evidence to the people of Wisconsin that I am the proven conservative that they can trust to stand up to Barack Obama and the liberals in Washington," Neumann wrote.

The Tea Party Express announced Thursday it was backing attorney Clark Durant over former Rep. Pete Hoekstra in the Michigan Republican senate primary.

On Tuesday, former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz won a GOP senate primary in Texas with major tea party support, including an endorsement from the Tea Party Express. The group also helped propel Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock to victory in a primary against Sen. Dick Lugar, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate.

The group's pick in the Nebraska GOP primary, state Attorney General Jon Bruning, lost to state Sen. Deb Fischer.

CNN's Shannon Travis, Dashia Starr and Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report.

The Tea Party owes it existence to the progressively socialistic agenda Obama has tried to implement.
Ironically.., much like America owes its existence to English tyranny.

The Tea Party is an organization within the Republican Party of the most right wing zealots in America. It was begun and funded by Dick Armey and the super-rich Koch brothers to further their own ends of putting the middle and lower classes into slavery. Anyone who supports them is cutting his own throat.

Vegas is taking bets on a Romney landslide because of the Tea Party's involvement. And Obama's pandering to his base of non-middle classers.

It is interesting that Amy Kremer did not say "work with" President Obama. It is more interesting that she did not say "stand up to" or "work with" Mitt Romney. Even the Tea Party knows that President Obama is the right choice.

LOL you all live in a fantasy world. The President is going to win this re-election and you can thank the crazy Tea Fools for it. The worst thing to ever happen to the Republican part was the Tea Party. It is also the greatest threat the US Constitution has face in a century though they love to wrap their rhetoric with it like a blanket. If you want the Republicans to be at all relevant in 20 years you are going to have to show the Tea idiots the door. Their extremist agenda is handing the election to the Democrats.

Tea party people in congress and candidates wanted America to default on its debts and was partly responsible for the downgrade of Americas credit rating, as per the S&P report. These teapublicans want to destroy any chance of a recovery in America

I just love it when the Republican Party rips itself to shreds! They seem to think that anyone they nominate will be able to beat Tammy Baldwin in the general election. I think they're in for a big surprise.

In the meantime, no love for Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald, who's trying to sell himself as Governor Scott Walker's biggest supporter? C'mon, Scott! Endorse your Assembly rubber stamper-in-chief and make it a four-way tie :-D
