RNC marks Obama's birthday with gag gifts

(CNN) - President Barack Obama hit the links for a Saturday round on the morning of his 51st birthday, while Republicans sent gag gifts his way.

"Happy birthday Mr. President," read a cake the Republican National Committee said was delivered on their behalf to the Democratic National Committee. "You didn't bake this," the frosted letters continued, a rift on the president's comment "you didn't build this" - a line on which Republicans have seized.

The communications directors for both the RNC and DNC exchanged words via Twitter over the cake.

"Looks like you have too much time on your hands," the DNC's Brad Woodhouse posted.

"Maybe it would have been better to get some pastry from Caribou Coffee – WH staff loves that place," replied the RNC's Sean Spicer, referencing charges against the Obama Administration involving off-site meetings with lobbyists which Republicans pushed this week.

"Maybe we could have gotten it from the bakery @MittRomney insulted," Woodhouse retorted, bringing up what some called "CookieGate" in April.

For those looking to send their own birthday greetings to Obama, the RNC created a website with mocking e-cards.

"Happy birthday, party at my house again?" says a card with a photo of George Clooney. A May fundraiser held at Clooney's Los Angeles home for Obama's campaign netted the president's effort $15 million.

In another, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney's photo is placed next to the words, "I didn't bring you a cake this year... you already have a lot on your plate."

Russian President Vladimir Putin's likeness accompanies sits alongside the message "After the election, you are flexible for me. I flex for your birthday." The card is a play on Obama's March comments to the outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, "This is my last election... After my election I have more flexibility."

And one card has the president's own face on it. "My birthday wish: make everyone forget I've been president the last four years."

Another was signed by Solyndra, "You gave us half a billion taxpayer dollars and all you got was this stupid card."

By the RNC's math, the national debt has increased since Obama's last birthday from $14.56 trillion to $15.9 trillion, or an additional $4,347.17 per person in this country.

So embarrased at the GOP, but not the least bit surprised. They are soooooo ugly I wonder how people join such a tribe of people. In the first place they lie when saying Obama said you didn't build this, that was an out take of words from a statement that had many more words. What liars they and they have to gall to try and use it against the President. You can read his words....not even close to what the lying Republicans are stating. That's all they've got lies and hate!

Happy Birthday Mr President. The majority of American know you will win re-election. So let me take this time to say dispite the obstructionist in congress , the economy is recovering slowly. Imagine how much more growth in the economy America would see without the GOP/RNC obstructionist. VOTE these GOP teapublicans out of office now for the good of America

the party of No has once again shown everyone how mean and hateful they are and how childish. They would be better off using their time to pass some of the bills put before them . But now they will be off for a month and a half. I guess they wore themselves out comming up with the birthday cake idea. If this isnt reason enough to vote them all out then I dont know what else you need to see they are the party of clowns. Forward 2012 And a Very Happy Birthday to our president the only adult in the room.

How childish is the redumblican party!!!!!!!!! Not only childish but all out disrespectful to the President. Is this all the redumblicans can accomplish? I sure as heck don't want these people running my America.............
Get to working you redumblicans and start helping to get the jobs going that you have been crying about since 2010. I hope you who are up for election this term get voted out--Please American people-vote in people who are willing to get things done. Better yet-–maybe all elected officials should be independents–not dem or redumb. Let's vote for who we see as best to fit what we need.

Typical republican childish behavior. It fits right in with mitts bullying of his high school classmate. These guys were the kids everybody hated in grade school.

While most right wingnuts are supportive of communists and plutocrats, it is a shame to see the republicans do more damage to our country than al Qaida and the Taliban ever could.

  17. Republican who supports President Obama

How mature our politicians look. The GOP should show a little more respect. My vote will not be for the GOP for this very reason.

    Happy Birthday Mr. President!!!!!!

Will the RNC have to redefine marriage as a sacred bond between one man and 5 women like Mittens grandfather? Beware of the Mormon Brotherhood.

Straight up happy birthday Mr. President. And as far as the RNC is concern, they shell continue to be your foot stool as God continue to prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies.

    Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

If I hadn't born witness to the Republicans' antics for the past couple of years I could give them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't just childish idiots. But I'm sure these are all disgusting, mean-spirited jabs made by miserable souls. I'm sure the president can take a joke, but is it too much to ask that it at least be a clever one?

They just can't help themselves – evil and mean-spirited republicans. Who do they think they are to insult President Obama? Thankfully most people will see this gesture and be disgusted.
