RNC marks Obama's birthday with gag gifts

(CNN) - President Barack Obama hit the links for a Saturday round on the morning of his 51st birthday, while Republicans sent gag gifts his way.

"Happy birthday Mr. President," read a cake the Republican National Committee said was delivered on their behalf to the Democratic National Committee. "You didn't bake this," the frosted letters continued, a rift on the president's comment "you didn't build this" - a line on which Republicans have seized.

The communications directors for both the RNC and DNC exchanged words via Twitter over the cake.

"Looks like you have too much time on your hands," the DNC's Brad Woodhouse posted.

"Maybe it would have been better to get some pastry from Caribou Coffee – WH staff loves that place," replied the RNC's Sean Spicer, referencing charges against the Obama Administration involving off-site meetings with lobbyists which Republicans pushed this week.

"Maybe we could have gotten it from the bakery @MittRomney insulted," Woodhouse retorted, bringing up what some called "CookieGate" in April.

For those looking to send their own birthday greetings to Obama, the RNC created a website with mocking e-cards.

"Happy birthday, party at my house again?" says a card with a photo of George Clooney. A May fundraiser held at Clooney's Los Angeles home for Obama's campaign netted the president's effort $15 million.

In another, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney's photo is placed next to the words, "I didn't bring you a cake this year... you already have a lot on your plate."

Russian President Vladimir Putin's likeness accompanies sits alongside the message "After the election, you are flexible for me. I flex for your birthday." The card is a play on Obama's March comments to the outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, "This is my last election... After my election I have more flexibility."

And one card has the president's own face on it. "My birthday wish: make everyone forget I've been president the last four years."

Another was signed by Solyndra, "You gave us half a billion taxpayer dollars and all you got was this stupid card."

By the RNC's math, the national debt has increased since Obama's last birthday from $14.56 trillion to $15.9 trillion, or an additional $4,347.17 per person in this country.

Republicans should be conserving their cake mix. They'll need to have enough for four more...

"You didn't bake this"? That's a strange remark coming from the "half-baked" GOP.

Classic rethuglican style. Happy Birthday Mr. President! Enjoy your day and do as you have done for years. Brush the hate off. No other POTUS in history has been disrespected as you have. But like they love to mention, you're not like them, and guess what, you're not. Stay classy Mr. President and most of all, stay safe.

    OBAMA 2012!

RNC has to be loud and crazy this week... cover up the fact that Cantor was caught red handed rewriting the "No Inside Trading Bill" to benefit his family. Making it possible for family members to benefit from knowledge he gains with his position. Yeah, he got caught and now he is making noise to try to distract people. The man is a thief, crook, deceiving liar. Time to vote him out as a warning to other members.

If you want this country to grow, just vote all republican leaders out of office. Starting with Cantor.
They worked so hard as to where they had to take 5 weeks of paid vacation. On our dime.

As usual, Mr. President, it was a pleasure to see you were able to bring all the Republicans together without having them obstruct their own efforts to wish you the very best for another year. I heard the Republican Senators wanted to filibuster the birthday cake until they were reminded it was their own effort to be hateful disguised as a joke and thus a motion to bake a cake was passed without opposition. Amazing how all that hate could be mustered to bake a cake to ridicule the President and not a darn thing can be done to help the American public! My vote is for the only man standing large for another four years, with hopes my fellow Americans will give him an intelligent and respectful Congress and Senate to finally get something done for everyone. Obama for 2012!

The Republicans should be ashamed of themselves. How childish. Whether you agree or disagree with his policies, he is the President. Show some respect.

These Republicans are just being immature, disrespectful, and unimaginably dishonorable. No other way to put it.

I am not surprised. These people believe that the duly elected president is a good for nothing, uneducated, poor, gay, kenyan, muslim, socialist. They have no respect for the highest office in america. All the best to the president. He will win and hopefully there will be no more tea party.

I now believe all citizens should bear arms. If Mittens and his neo nazi goons win, we need to take back the country ourselves.

The Republicans responsible should be ashamed of themselves. How childish. Whether you agree or disagree with the President to show this type of disrespect to the President is disgusting. Just more proof of the hatred produced by the Republicans.

Show some respect for the office of President even if you do not agree with the policies of the sitting President. As a registered Republican, I can honestly say that I am ashamed of what this party has become: arrogant, mean spirited, close minded, childish, and unprofessional. This moderate Republican will be voting for Obama once again. Happy Birthday, Mr. President!
