Team Romney lambasts Obama in two new ads

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign released two new television ads Sunday hitting President Barack Obama on two fronts: the United States' ties with Israel and the still-recovering economy.

The first ad, "Cherished Relationship," comes exactly one week after the presumptive GOP nominee made a high-profile trip to Israel.

Opening with an attack line, the 30-second spot blasts Obama for having "never visited Israel as president" and chides him for refusing to "recognize Jerusalem as its capital."

The commercial then features footage of Romney appearing in the Jewish state, meeting with Israeli voters, wearing a yarmulke and visiting the Western Wall.

"Mitt Romney will be a different kind of president - a strong leader who stands by our allies," the ad's narrator says. "He knows America holds a deep and cherished relationship with Israel."

The ad ends with a controversial statement Romney made during his speech in front of the Old City's Tower of David last week: “It’s a deeply moving experience to be in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.”

American policy has long been intentionally vague on the status of Jerusalem. A U.S. law passed in 1995 designates Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and stipulates the American Embassy should move to the city from Tel Aviv. The past three presidents, however, have signed waivers suspending the law, citing security and diplomatic concerns.

In the second commercial, "It's Just Not Getting Better," Romney's campaign focuses on the economy and blames the president for July's job numbers, which came out Friday and revealed an unemployment rate uptick - to 8.3%, from 8.2% last month - as households claimed they lost 195,000 jobs in July.

However, the ad does not mention that the economy added 163,000 jobs, far more than in recent months.

The government's monthly jobs report comes from two separate surveys: one that looks at employer payrolls and one that questions households. Those two reports went in opposite directions in July, confusing the overall reading on the job market.

"Under Obama's economy, it's just not getting better," the ad's narrator says.

The president, however, touted the new job numbers Friday, focusing on the jobs created in July.

"That means that we've now created 4.5 million new jobs over the last 29 months and 1.1 million new jobs so far this year," Obama said in remarks in Washington at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. "Those are our neighbors and family members finding work and the security that comes with work."

Pivoting, the ad says Romney has a plan for a "stronger middle class" that includes "more jobs and more take-home pay."

"It's a plan that works for America," the narrator concludes at the end of the spot.

This week Romney unveiled his promise to create 12 million new jobs in his first four years in office if elected. While some economists have raised doubts about his ability to achieve that goal because it would require adding 250,000 jobs a month, Romney told CNN on Saturday that it's achievable.

"That is what happens in a normal process. When you come out of the kind of recession we've had you should see this kind of creation," he told CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger.

Last week, Romney's campaign and the Republican National Committee bought $8.2 million for a week of ad time beginning Wednesday and running through Tuesday in eight battleground states, according to a Republican source tracking ad buys.

– CNN’s Kevin Liptak, Kevin Bohn and Annalyn Censky contributed to this report.

@calmervoice-you ask "Are we better off internationally? Financially? Will all these rebels in the Middle East become our friends?
You jest right? Were you asleep when the bully bishop went to three European countries and managed to insult whole countries? Even the British could tell what a twit this guy is from just one interview. The rebels in the Middle East, as you call them, could be even more incensed about attacking us as the flip flopper critized Arabs. The saving grace is that the person making the gaffes has no power, will never have power and is just another American tourist who was handed a microphone and failed miserably as a diplomat.
As far as financially, the economy is still recovering but the middle class and poor have a better chance of making it without this country club cretin who only wants the best for his super wealthy friends and himself, of course. How else could he build the mansion with the elevators for all those cars!

We all pay taxes, and if we cheat we go to jail, so should Mitt. Explain to me again why Obama's college papers matter to any of us?

You are so full of it, you've never even stepped out of this country and you think why Americans are disliked in the countries where I come from. Try Americans have been disliked always because the U.S. became a big, financially stable, free country in a matter of only 200 years while European countries have existed for 100's of years and still are trying to get their act together. It is called jealousy. Why do you think I live in the U.S.?????

Seriously, are you so dumb to think the IRS wouldn't have jumped all over Governor Romney if hadn't paid his taxes??? Don't you think by now Harry Reid would have been able to get the IRS to take action against Governor Romney if he really had evidence the Romney didn't pay taxes? If anything, Harry Reid would be violating the law if he withheld evidence that someone didn't pay taxes. Think again of how to spin this dumb idea better, more believable.

    @NateOLYWA:

Obama's college papers (you meant transcripts) matter because he was hired by the American people to the highest office in the land. Why has he sealed them? Why has he sealed his entire past?

If you honestly do not see how that matters, then you obviously do not know how to assess whether someone is qualified to serve in office. So far, I have only seen his last three years of job performance, and he is literally way over his head in nearly every area that the Presidency requires of an individual–including the ability to assume personal responsibility for that reality.

Calmervoice..I beg to differ! If multi-millionaire Mitt truly loved this country, why did he do all he could to avoid serving the military during the Vietnam conflict? Why does he have money invested in the Cayman Islands! Why does he have money in Swiss bank accounts??? Why does he have secretive dealings with a company in Bermuda? Why has he NOT released his tax returns? The one year he did release a full return showed that he basically paid a rate of only 13%!! Why has been deceitful regarding his tenure at Bain? ! Why does he claim that corporations are "people"? Why did he claim a $77 thousand tax deduction for his horse, an amount that is more than most Americans make!!! If you believe that Willard truly understands the plight of the average American, then I truly feel sorry for you!!!

Back March 2012 Mitt Romney DESTROYED Newt Gingrich in the Florida primary. 20millionbucks in less than three weeks; no stone left unturned; Gingrich's appearance, his sanity & his soul were attacked & ridiculed in teevee, print, & radio. 20 million in three weeks and Newt's goose was cooked. Will Romney do the same against Obama? Obama is a thousand times more vulnerable than Newt AND Obama is a Democrat. If Romney does not take Obama out with the same kind of scorched-earth tactic that he used against Gingrich, it will be pretty obvious that Romney's not all that serious about winning the Oval. I saw how nasty the Romney campaign can get against someone it really wants to beat. I hope Romney is holding his fire until after Labor Day (September 3rd 2012). Obama's entire life is a target rich environment that Romney should burn to the ground. Will he? We'll see, won't we?

You just proved that Americans are truly clueless what the rest of the world is like and yes most of them live jealous and hate the U.S. for the great, free country that the U.S is. Again, why do you think I love this country and live here.

    1. GOP alone did not get us into a recession. We had democratic Congress since 2006.
    2. Let's assume that Romney's tax returns are not that square. What about Geitner's? And the rest of the cabinet members? We are not hiring an accountant and we don't expect anybody who is an angel. Do you set lots of angels across the isle?
    3. We do need health care reform but it should benefit our backbone – the middle class: small-time business owners, bookkeepers, plumbers, accountants, salespeople, retired people (would not ruin their Medicare for which they paid for years), you & me. But not people used to handouts & not illegals. And that is what Romney wants. Romney is a candidate of the people who are trying hard to support their families.
    4. Romney is a very succsessful businessman. Business is tough and the business people & hardworking people built this country & will prevail, God willing.
    5. Every politician promises a lot but what means is delivery. We've already seen what Mr. Obama delivered. Do you like it? Do you envision positive development of this country if he stays?
Brothers & sisters! Please reflect on how America will look like in 2016 and Obama and under Romney & go with your heart & your mind. But please remember, whichever the result will be, let's stick together after the election as we all are Americans.

That's not a good point since President Clinton did all he could and did avoid Vietnam himself. And remember President Obama could have voluntered to serve in the military and did not volunteer either and I don't think that makes Clinton or Obama less loving of our country or bad people.
