Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

(CNN) – Legendary outlaw Robin Hood has suddenly assumed a featured role in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Adding a new attack line on Monday to his stump speech, the president railed against rival Mitt Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama's campaign isn't yet indicating whether the "Romney Hood" line will remain part of the president's stump speech.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

The event was the first of two fund-raisers for the president in Connecticut Monday. Obama is expected to raise more than $2 million from both events combined.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

Mitt Romney and his State House staff developed a healthcare plan for MA. It is now in place and is costing more than was originally stated. So, of course, tax payers will foot the bill.

More importantly, the plan offered to retirees states that you must get your meds from CVS unless you go through an express scripts company. Mr. Romney is all for small business except when it does not suit his needs.. However, this health care provision takes business away from locally owned pharmacies. CVS, which is the largest company of its kind has the MA contract. He is for small businesses except when he is not. This is a campaign issue of great importance. If we continually shut out small pharmacies then will not be able to compete and will close.

This is so true. So now after 3 1/2 years Barack Obama will start making nice with the middle class?!?! They have been brutalized by the Obama regime. Just how stupid does he think the average American voter is?!?! C'mon...we have gotten much wiser than we were in 2008. But since he didn't hear the message in 2010 he will not listen now. Romney 2012.

It is amazing that after 11 years of the Bush tax cuts that did nothing for job creation, there is Romney saying the same thing-cut taxes and jobs will increase. That is classic insanity. If you wants jobs to be created, you have to give money to people who actually spend the mopney and buy "things", that is demand. Putting another wad of cash in the Caymans does nothing except remove a wad of cash from US banks to be loaned to small businesses. Does Romney have any real business experience. Bain isn"t it!

Since McCain has seen Romney's taxes, why doesn't he squelch this argument? Probably the same reason why he chose Palin over Romney as his VP nominee.

Romney's plan is horrilbe for the middle class and the economy. In typical fashion the Romney campaign attacks the findings of a neutral group. But can point to no neutral analysis that supports Romeny's postion. And this fabrication that he has had accomplishmets that help the middle class. Really? The auto bailout he opposed then later stated it was his plan? Does his off shore tax shelters benefit the middle class? Certainly his proposed tax plan will hurt the middle class and the economy. The middle class will pay more in taxes and have less money to spend to spur the economy. It is the Bush plan all over again with respect to the wealthy. But the jobs never were created by the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy? So the Romeny plan: cut the wealthy's taxes even more; they are the job creators Really? Fool me once shame on ....

Romney is the same old thing that got us to where we are today. If Pres Obama set loose nukes on his own country, he couldn't match the destruction that the Republican party has done.

This is an unbelievably irresponsible remark. Obama doesn't care about the middle class or about people who know how to create jobs or people who work hard. He's too busy chasing the deadbeat vote.

Love it – Romneyhood. Robin Hood in reverse is Romney. Taking from middle class and poor to give to the millionaires and billionaires just like him. Class redistribution of wealth – more and more of the pie to 1% of Americans. This is Romney's plan.

    Release your tax returns
