Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

(CNN) – Legendary outlaw Robin Hood has suddenly assumed a featured role in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Adding a new attack line on Monday to his stump speech, the president railed against rival Mitt Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama's campaign isn't yet indicating whether the "Romney Hood" line will remain part of the president's stump speech.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

The event was the first of two fund-raisers for the president in Connecticut Monday. Obama is expected to raise more than $2 million from both events combined.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

  1. more class warfare from obama ...hope and change? uhhuh

the chief finger pointer strikes again....never take responsibility for millions out of work...this is his watch, the buck always stops with the captain on the deck.

all obama does is divide, pitt one versus another, blame others...and he NEVER EVER TAKES RESPONSIBILITY.

    A pathetic example of leadership.

The angle makes sense for Obama to take.

Fundamentally, the Romney plan does include a massive tax cut to extremely high earners. It will include significant reductions in tax deductions and those will impact the middle class.

I don't understand the logic in dodging the questions over cuts and saying that he'll leave that to Congress. Either Romney comes out and defines what deductions will be removed to finance his tax cut for earners of $3MM or more OR Obama will control the discussion and get to define the pain of Mitt's plan.

He's far better off saying what his plan is that saying that he'll let Congress, the group with a 10% approval rating, be in charge.

Well, that's appropriate, particularly after the Bloomberg report on the sale of SEAT Pagine Gialle in Italy! He is "persona no grata" there... no Roman Holidays for him!

I think this will come back to bite Obama in the tush.

People are going to think that Obama is giving Romney a compliment by saying that he takes from the rich to give to the poor. Believe me; it WILL happen, and it is hilarious!

No doublestandards please. Why can't Romney talk about his record and specific issues?

A: His record in MA was near last in job creation, shipping American jobs overseas at Bain, tax breaks to the rich while raising taxes/fees on the poor and middle class. A Romney Hood indeed.

  8. obama cynically playing americans for fools...and the media lets him get away with it

its disgusting how obama uses and abuses the people themselves...he cynically uses the very people he got to vote for him last time...he doesnt care about you, all he cares about is his own selfish power. What a a lot, use teleprompters, speak like a preacher and lie while doing it. wonderful. Hope and change? I see none of that...all I see is finger pointing, blaming others, hurling insults, pitting americans against each that the president you voted for? really?

Childish comment from a President during a time of so much economic suffering. Yeah, that's what we need from our leader. *Romney Hood* is appropriate for blog comments, not publicly from a president's mouth. You don't hear Mitt Romney resorting to calling the president *Oblama*. This lowers President Obama to the level of a grade school kid.

Speaking of taxes, if it's untrue that you haven't paid taxes in 10 years, then why don't you show your tax returns to defuse the allegation Mitt? O' I got won't because you didn't pay taxes for 10 years. Obama/Biden/Roberts 2012!

Yeah I could vote for the devil I know or the devil i don't. The only thing is if I vote for Obama, I don't see the economy getting better and I see him making more Americans jobless and depending on him to give free money out of our taxes which our country can't afford to give. I'm voting for Romney, he may not be the best but he will be better than Obama and his one liner catch phrases....such as "yes we can" in reality its no we can't

Hypocrisy, thy name is Obama. Yes, Romney is rich, but Obama is rich as well. More to the point, Obama's policies and actions in office have been consistently designed to benefit his campaign contributors. One need only look at how carefully tailored the so-called Health Care Reform Act was to see how it was designed to benefit those who contributed to Obama's campaign and those who supported it, while at the same time punishing htose who opposed it. Instead of a Commander in Chief, we now have a Hypocrite in Chief. He should be ashamed of his campaign message, instead of pulling us together in this time of economic trouble, he continues to pit one group of Americans against another, when our best hope is to pull together.

Is that like the "Obama Hood" that's happening now? Taxng everyone and still spending more than he has?
President Obama had nothing to do wit the current tax rate. The Bush tax cut established this rate at a time when he also started two wars. The Republican Administration spent money like drunken sailors and launched the U.S. into a deep recession – requiring spending to get us out of the mess and reducing revenue due to lost productivity. Over 8 million jobs were lost before president Obama took office – with Republicans obstructing all progress. I've yet to hear conservatives man-up to this situation, relying instead on sound-bites from Rush Linbaugh and revisionist history.

To Ready... you think Romney isn't a mudslinger??? Ask any resident of Massachussett what his campaign was like when he ran for Gov... They had never seen anything so dirty. Hey just check his ads during the GOP primary...pretty dirty.

I was a registered republican until ultra right wing took over party. No room for moderates. It is now the party of old rich white men...losing women, minorities, etc. Hey they don'tcare! They just buy the election per SCOTUS Citizens United. We don't even know if all money donated to GOP Super PACS are from US citizens. They don't have to tell.

Mark from Louisiana, I find it funny that supporters of Mitt, like yourself, shout "why wont Obam a run on his record." You say it as though Mitt does not have a record. Mitt was Governor of Massachusetts. Are you saying that Mitt is running on his record? Do you know what Mitt's record was in Massachusetts? Better question, do you even care what Mitt's record was in Massachusetts?

It is not only the President who has to hold Romney accountable, BUT also we the people. Romney needs our votes. he will not reach the place he is anticipating to be, if he doesn't receive our votes. We will also not allow him to go there if he doesn't abide to our requirement; and that is to release his Tax Returns.
