Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

(CNN) – Legendary outlaw Robin Hood has suddenly assumed a featured role in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Adding a new attack line on Monday to his stump speech, the president railed against rival Mitt Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama's campaign isn't yet indicating whether the "Romney Hood" line will remain part of the president's stump speech.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

The event was the first of two fund-raisers for the president in Connecticut Monday. Obama is expected to raise more than $2 million from both events combined.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

I voted for Obama in 2008. At the beginning of 2011 I decided to vote for Romney if he was elected in the repub primary. Then, form the time primary was over and now, I learnt a lot about Romney. We are better off with Obama for the next term than brining Romney as his stands on various issues – economic, social and international – have been extremely 'radical' and 'neocon' influenced. A vote for Romney is a vote for stepping back into 19th century.

Charlie....the problem is that cutting taxes for the rich does not create jobs. When the rich get tax cuts, they invest in non-job producing markets, like speculative mortgages that caused the 2008 financial crisis. And the one's that do produce jobs, pay terribly low wages to their employees, increasing their own profits and exacerbating the real problem, which is the income gap.

Steve, short memory, eh? FDR took over in the midst of great depression and stabilized the economy until World War II really ended the depression. Clinton presided over thriving economy and left buget surplus when he left the office. Kennedy's watch certainly was not the worst for the economy either. Read a book man, it helps to keep your memory sharp.

The point is that the Obama campaign is successfully deciding the general theme of this campaign. I believe if Romney released his returns from 2009 ans back 8 years, he would become completely un-electable. He is said to have instructed his accountants to spare no risk in aggressively exploiting tax shelters, loopholes and questionable deductions and tax credits. While none of this is illegal, after all the tax code was written for the elites, it is immoral and very bad politically. But Vulture Mittens will have to reap what he has sown. I suspect he will lose big and lose the house for GOP control on his plummeting coattails.

people do understand that business create jobs based on demand, not on how much money they have laying around, right? Taking money from "the 99%" will not increase demand.

Mitt should not be ashamed of his success; why not release twelve years of tax returns and put the issue to rest.

I wonder what he calls the National Debt that ballooned since he has been in office?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Everytime he brings up the debt and how we got to this point your little head explodes as you accuse him of blaming the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Well guess what – that's exactly where the blame falls. Failure to fund the cost of two wars and a prescription program is what got us here. If President Obama were as dishonest as his predecessor, we would be running a surplus instead of a deficit. I know the truth hurts but it is what it is, and the sooner you come to grips with reality the sooner you'll begin to heal.

It's very telling that none of the Republican posters can actually defend Romney's plan. All they can resort to is ad hominem name calling and saying "nuh uh, Obama is the tax raiser! Mitt Romney and Rush told me so!"

Face it friends, Mitt Romney IS Robin Hood in reverse. His tax plan, evaluated by a nonpartisan organization that evaluates EVERY major tax plan, was found to raise taxes on middle class families in order to cut them for millionaires. Disgusting. There is no way to justify this abomination when people like Mitt Romney already pay less than HALF the tax rate as the rest of us. No more welfare for millionaires and no more handouts for the rich. Let's try something Republicans have been absolutely loathe to do since the days of Reagan's – help the middle class instead of the rich. OBAMA 2012.

Ignorance is bliss, I see Republican supporters take this to heart. Try Goggling how the economy faired under the different parties. Start with some charts on the deficit. You'll be shocked how badly Republican presidents did. Oh yeah, good luck fighting for the butler job with the other million candidates you'll be competing with. I’m sure you’ll do well with the minimum wages the 1 percentage will pay you from their tax breaks.

So some are angry because Mr. Obama's staff is fighting back, with some of the same tactics the dirty, stinky, rotten republican party has used for years. Now they get a dose of their medicine and they can't stand it. Put to them Mr. Obama.

Romney Hood does a good job of that ALL BY HIMSELF. The president has many accomplishments (and they're all online for your review unlike the coward running against him). Willard has done MANY evil deeds and up to this point, has managed to get away with it – that is until now. The president is exposing Willard for the coward and liar he's been his entire life and for that, I say BRAVO Mr. President!

I am still waiting for Obama to tell me the rest of his economic plan besides "raise taxes on the wealthy". I can see how that helps the debt (if we control spending), but how does it help the current economy and unemployment? I can't uncover what the president's jobs plan is?

To those who say Obama has NO accoplishments to stand on:

    1) Got the Afordability Health Care Act passed. Granted, it isn't great. No one is happy, but it is a start. He promised healthcare and he delivered. Why it took so long was because of 18 months of negotiations with GOP that they reniged on. He was naive. He was unassertive. But he tried to be bi-partisan

    2) Osama was caught on his watch. Should have been caught long ago, but Cheney decided not to follow intel when the CIA was right on top of him. Then Bush/Cheney move forces from Afghanistan to Iraq.

    3) Managed to keep us out of Libyian firefights– didn't lose a single soldier, yet Ghadafi still fell

    4) Stayed with the troop pull out of Iraq

    5) Had come up with a grand comrpromise with Boehner, which Boehner backed out of last minute because of Tea-Party crying.

    6) Stuck with the autobailout, contrary to Romney's protests

    7) Increaded US credibility and reputation worldwide

    8) Still managed to get job growth and recovery after the recession even when fighting obstinate congress. Before you say the left needs to stop playing the blame game, recall Senator McConnel said the priority is to make him a 1term president. Yes, dems had a majority, however, the filibuster has been used an unprecedented number of times, and once 2010 came around, GOP wouldn't even bring bills forward to be voted on. Lots of Political, legal, but hurtful, manuerverings. Learn how our government works and procedures, then talk about not getting stuff done.

Ah, jason, take a minute and think about what you wrote...just for a minute...

Demand is generated by a healthy middle class with money to spend – thus creating demand. It's not a complicated concept.

    1) So you are saying 43% of the country (>130M people) are idiots and their perspective is stupid. Very open minded.

    2) The Democrats had control over the entire Congress (House and Senate) for Obama's first two years, and he could accomplish nothing.

The Republican motto of "taxing the rich is only hurting job creation" is flawed for one basic reason: the rich stopped investing in job creation 30 years ago, that's why our economy is constantly stuck in reverse. The rich are all about one thing, keeping as much money as possible so that they can buy two or three houses, have five or six cars, have ten children (none of whcih actually do anything to create anything), all the while the watching the country that made all of the possible suffer. Fact, if they won't do anything with the money thto help the country, then we need to take it from them by raising the tax rate (for those making $500K or more) to the 1960's level and by closing the hundreds of loopholes in the tax code they use each year....
