Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

(CNN) – Legendary outlaw Robin Hood has suddenly assumed a featured role in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Adding a new attack line on Monday to his stump speech, the president railed against rival Mitt Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama's campaign isn't yet indicating whether the "Romney Hood" line will remain part of the president's stump speech.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

The event was the first of two fund-raisers for the president in Connecticut Monday. Obama is expected to raise more than $2 million from both events combined.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

How quickly people like to forget Obama inherited the economy from the GOP/Bush failed policies.

  2. A Humble Perspective

@candee Reducing the corporate tax rate makes our economy more competive against former competition, because businesses are less likely to move operations overseas. Remember, it is not just about what the corprate tax rates are but what they are relative to other nations. US companies go overseas in part because of taxes and/or reduced government regulation. Also, when businesses are able to keep more of the profits, they are more likely to expand operations etc..These factors help employment in the US. More employment in the US leads to more taxable wages (even at a marginally lower rate) " A true Conservative" is correct that the problem exists when we lower taxes but do not act fiscally responsible. I would also agree that this is true of both parties.

YES! Romney Hood! He steals from the poor and gives to the rich. That was what Prince John and the Sheriff of Nottingham did. Wow. It's a great comparison - it's totally in reverse to the legend, and totally accurate.

We've got this great president who listens to the American people, who understands that it's the middle class and the lower class that are hurting and he's trying to stop it. He's trying to keep this country from going under. The GOP just want to take and take and keep for themselves.

  4. Mitt Pleasures and Palaces

While the struggling Middle-Class has worked so hard all their life just to try to make it, Romney has been living the life of Riley with his Mitt Pleasures and Palaces, saying there's no place like home. Wake Up and smell the coffee already folks, he's not ever going to be for the Middle-Class!

"that 47% number includes children (but of course the tighty righties want to do away with child labor laws)"
    ----–
Ridiculous. That 47% number is 47% of tax filings. Children don't file taxes. "Thanks for playing, tho".

Romney has released less tax returns than any Presidential candidate in the last 36 years!

It's time he released his tax returns.

@DC Johnny....Thank you for explaining once again how little raising taxes will help. Someday the democrats who do not understand economics, the fundamentals of job creation and fallen into the liberal trap of class warefare will open their eyes. Unfortunately, it may be too late for this country as we speed down the socialist path. They need to take a hard look at the failed economies of the socialist nations with open eyes. Gee, I just saw a report how our used and outdated medical equipment is being sent to Australia and England due to their inability to make purchases. Please no to Obama who only distracts from ths issues with very unpresidential behavior.

"They believe the Rich = Bad, The Dems= Good, "

More projection? Reality is, NOBODY BELIEVES THAT. The only people who attach inherent value to wealth in a significant manner are the GOPers/Teatrolls, who consistently prove, time and time again, ady after day, that they believe that wealth is automatic proof of virtue and righteousness....and that a lack of wealth is automatic proof of sloth and degredation. The rest of us are basing our opinions on what people DO with their wealth. Trying to buy our effing government so that you can get tax cuts and special ways of avoiding paying taxes that are only available tot he extremely wealthy, less restrictions on how you abuse the labor force and less resitrictions on the danger and harm you create in the environment and PEOPLES' NEIGHBORHOODS...those things are what are bad. Plenty of rich people don't behave that way and polls show that the majority of very wealthy people are willing and even believe that their taxes should go up to help fix the country's financial problems created by the Bush tax cuts, two wars kept off the books and a massive recession.

Well, at least you are passionate if not completely informed. The great thing in this country is your vote will count just as much as mine.

Here we go again. The Obama plan is to try and find another slogan to spew, but no substance. I'm hoping that America woke up after four years to realize how unqualified this clown is. I know the current event is to get Mitt to show his tax returns and so many liberals want 'transparency', but let’s see Obama share his college transcripts. Where is the outcry for that? Everyone else has to show high school and college transcripts...all but the president of the United States. Hmmmm...wonder what the President is hiding??
Liberals listen up! Your hypocrisy is laughable and transparent!

"And as a poster recently said, "If Obama gets re-elected, he's going to inherit quite a mess"."

That's because the GOP/TEatrolls spent the past 2 years eating their crayons to keep them away from the rest of us, instead of contributing to the mural.

quickly forget??? how the heck could anybody forget when obama and all the democrats keep blaming bush (wrongly) even hour. get real. but not even third graders blame somebody else for 4 years. not sure why obama ran for the office if he wasn't going to be a leader and take ownership. all we've gotten is 4 years of record high unemployment followed by every excuse in the book about why obama policies are failures.

Did Obama forget that during the 2008 campaign Obama was also compared to Robin Hood for his wanting of distribution the working peoples money. I guess a good campaign has to be copied when there is no originality in ones campaign.

""because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate"

    Wait...what?"

It's the ideological partyline they are taught to parrot. They religiously believe that when more tax cuts are given to a business that is currently serving its dmand level, the business owner will just expand anyway rather than keep the tax cuts as though they represent extra profit for his pocket.
