Obama debuts 'Romney Hood'

(CNN) – Legendary outlaw Robin Hood has suddenly assumed a featured role in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Adding a new attack line on Monday to his stump speech, the president railed against rival Mitt Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

Obama's campaign isn't yet indicating whether the "Romney Hood" line will remain part of the president's stump speech.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

The event was the first of two fund-raisers for the president in Connecticut Monday. Obama is expected to raise more than $2 million from both events combined.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

romney hood is correct in describing romney the man knows nothing about being poor, he knows nothing about the struggles of being poor or what is is like to be formerly middles class and having a decent life all romney know is what is best for the wealthy.

Keep hearing that romney has a plan. Is the plan a secret? His tax returns certainly are. If this modern day robin hood wants the independants vote then, lets not let him try to bob and weave around the issue of releasing his tax returns. So far this is the only issue he has not flip-flopped on! Hmmmmmmm

It's just embarrassing to me that Obama is the President of the United States. He is nothing more than a Chicago bred politico who is a great campaigner, great orator(no substance) and a total mess of a president.

Too funny. What Romney "record of accomplishment" is that exactly?
And for the middle class?–at Bain? There may be a record there possibly but I hardly think his tenure there helped middle class Americans in any way. Seems to me the only record he created at Bain
was for himself–and it was profits. Nothing wrong at all with making money, but it needn't be portrayed as anything but that.

Cutting the corporate tax rate is going to produce zero more tax dollars Romney. They already do everything they can to avoid paying them now.

Maybe Pelosi can make up a story in the next few weeks to try and keep the conversation away from the economy, but it will always end up back to that subject. Unless the economy improves considerably, Obama will lose.

Yes, a stronger middle class, code words for low paying construction jobs. I am amazed that all these low level functionaries don't realize their guy is a charlatan and a snake ouil salesman. We can thank the "affable dunce" ronald reagan for the "dumbing down of America". People cannot even think logically, so they believe the lies that the repikelican party tells them. Those poor mislead people, voting for politicians who could care if they prosper or not. How many republicans does it take to change a light bulb, none, they would rather live in the dark!

Romney's campaign calls the study flawed because it didn't count the INCREASE in revenue from LOWERING the corporate tax rate? That's not a flaw, that's reality. You don't raise tax revenue by lowering taxes. The Revenue he is talking about raising is the revenue of the PRIVATE BUSINESSES and their INVESTORS. This study only measured TAX revenue for the government.
