Carter to address Democratic convention

(CNN) - Former President Jimmy Carter will deliver remarks via video at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina this September, the convention's committee announced Tuesday.

"Rosalynn and I regret that we will be unable to be at the Democratic Convention this year in Charlotte. However, we remain steadfast in our support for President Obama and the progress he will make in the next four years," Carter, 87, said in a statement released by the committee.

While the former president did not address the 2008 convention in Denver, he appeared in a video about Hurricane Katrina, then walked on stage to wave to the audience.

Democratic National Convention Chair Antonio Villaraigosa praised the former president in a statement as "one of the greatest humanitarian leaders of our time."

"A lifelong champion of human rights and investments in education and energy to spur economic development, President Carter will provide unique insight into President Obama's ability to move our country forward and why we need his vision and leadership for a second term," Villaraigosa said in a statement.

Since his unsuccessful re-election bid in 1980, the 39th president has dedicated his time to working on global human rights issues. He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

As a private citizen Carter has been instrumental in helping the disadvantaged. Those who claim Carter was the worst President in History; and voted for the Bush/Cheney – need also look at their own achievements. Maybe then, these above mentioned individuals will realize that their own achievements aren’t anywhere near as impressive as the former President.

Thanks Mr Carter for teeing this one up for the GOP. I've never been in love with the republicans but these leftists who have taken over the democratic party don't leave me a choice. Wow. Just a reminder he was once our leader and America can even come back from from the devatation which is Obama.

If Democrats wanted to remind voters how we got into this mess they would need to bring out Barney Frank. His ideology that every American should own their own house regardless turned out to be really really bad idea.

Christian's believe(supposedly) that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ down to Earth to deliver a message personally from Him: Love each other as He loves you. The leaders Jesus' own people rejected the Message & saw to it that Jesus was disposed of. Jimmy Carter came onto the American Political Scene on the heels of Watergate & Nixon. Things didn't work out for him, politically. Why do so many Repub. Christians9sopposedly) hate Jimmy Carter so intensely to this day ? I'm sure President Carter can take solace form the Words of Jesus," If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first". John 15,18.

President Carter was a good President. Truely a good man with No evil intentions. Thats something I can't say for the republican past Presidents. Even Regan, he really wasn't so swift. The way people talk about him you'd thing he was GOD. Regan was No GOD at anytime period. And his wife is NO angel eighter. There's some stories about her and his children he had befor their marriage and their NOT good stories at all.

I don't get it ... just about every good thing that's been done for the average American, came from a Democratic president, and still, the Republican leaning followers keep on denying that truth. Look in a big dictionary, where all the presidents are pictured and information about them are in. Read about them, see what they did. You will be surprised.

Saint ronny left his wife, Jane Wyman and his children for his pregnant girlfriend, Nancy. Great "family values", huh?

"...we remain steadfast in our support for President Obama and the progress he will make in the next four years," Carter, 87, said in a statement...

Instead of more empty promises of what great accomplishments will happen in the NEXT 4 years......how about we take a hard look at the record of the LAST 4 years?

Like.....the worst unemployment record since the Great Depression and $5 trillion in new debt?

    How about all that "progress"?
