Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) – The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

No matter how hard he tries to rebutt an issue, comment, or policy, Mittens only looks more ridiculous and hapless. Obamaloney? I wonder which of the Romney team's geniuses came up with this one. Romneyhood wins this contest hands down.

This is what I would like to know ... how is Reid paying 100K a year for a room in the Ritz Carlton on his salary as a Senator? I caluclated this by takign the lowest priced room and multiplying it by 365 ... he doesn't have a low priced room he has a suite which is over $500 per night.

If you say he is getting a discount because he is a Senator, does he claim the discount on his taxes as income, that is actually a taxable event.

Yaw. Yep, Robmey at his best. His own spokesman says Robmey has a plan, and AGAIN, nothing about what that plan is. At least President Obama knows Robmeys plan, to raise $2000 tax on middle class Americans. I think the Romney Hood is a better analogy.

Mitt, you just have to keep counteracting what Obama says against you. His Romneywood speaks the truth, your Obamaloney doesn't stick and it just shows you how childish and immature you are. You are going to lose anyway.

Romney sounds like a frightened cornered fugitive with something to hide, his record at Bain Capital shipping American jobs overseas and not paying taxes for 10 years.

The only thing Romney ever did was make a lot of money for himself and avoid paying taxes on most of it. Everything else he ever did invovled being a coward, flip-flopper, pander, runaway, dodge, lie, mislead. hate How is it possible there is even one honest, decent, rational person who would vote for him especially when his only policy is to give himself an even bigger tax cut and more of the same that got us into this mess in the first place. Meanwhile Obama saved the country from the Republican caused melt down, killed bin laden, freed libya, got us out of the lie in Iraq, got healthcare for 30 million people, ended Republican Hate against gays in the military, got equal pay for woman, protected a woman's right to choose, and so much more. What is wrong with our country that even one person would think of voting for Romney or any Republican?

You Know Mittens did not think of this himself. Here we go with another S. Palin in a suit. Too funny. Show them tax returns Mittens. Your backers need to quit taking up for your nonsense excuses why you will not show them. Yes Obama could get them from the IRS and show them, but then The GOP would pop a cork. The reason the IRS has not caught him yet is because of his money. A regular Joe like me or anyone else they would have thrown us in jail or confiscated out paychecks. The GOP is really the party of idiots. I have to Give it to President Obama, no matter what the GOP throws at him he still comes up smelling like a rose. The GOP is outdated and need to go period. Anytime a party hopes and prays that their country fails and does nothing to make sure that it fails so that they can regain power needs to go.

You are blaming one party for not being able to clean/fix up a system that they didn't create, while the party that created is doing everything in their power to stop any effort to clean/fix it up.

Who is really "the hood"? Who put the policies in place? You're blaming the sheriff for not being able to catch the crooks, when the citizens are helping the crooks get away with their misdeeds.

    Sadly weak response, Romney.

It was actually the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center objectively calculating Romney's disastrous scheme to take from the poor and middle class to give to the rich.
