Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) – The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

    Overwhelmingly Loud...Release your tax returns...

Romney, the call for the release of your tax returns, like every other presidential candidates had done, is overwhelmingly loud and clear. It is much more so, since a lot of influential republicans are joining the chorus.
Now, at this point, you are a LOSER if you don't see the need to release your returns NOW.

You bet you'll look back and say 'if I had known' but then it will be much too late. Why don't you do the right thing as dictated by both COMMON SENSE & CONSCIENCE? What are you really hiding? According to Rick Perry 'have a heart'.

Simply release your tax returns if you wish to dispel the doubts and curiosities!!!!

Wow! Is this what these campaigns have sunk to. "Romney Hood" and "Obamaloney". Here I thought politics could not get any more childish. Well, one of these two idiotic campaigns will have to be win. So we can either vote for the kid we know and hasn't blown anything up, or the new kid we hardly know but says he'll behave. Pick your poison America.

He actually stole the baloni line form a congresswoman in the 40s. I just read about it in the book the Iregulars by Jennet Conant. His insults are not even his own.

  11. 92 Days until Obama is RE-ELECTED

@truth hurts – let's play out obama's current record another 4 years.... in 2016 we'll be at 94 straight months of record unemployment over 8%, we'll have $22 TRILLION in debt with $2 TRILLION annual deficits. our healthcare system will be destroyed as employers now find it impossible to offer health insurance so just pay the fine. we are all dependent on the federal government for our healthcare. 100 million people will be on food stamps, 200 million on social security or disability. the workforce will be down to 100 million people all paying 70% tax rates to support the massive government structure and gravy train. sounds more like obamageddon to me.
    -------------------------
Sounds more like where we would end up if we hand the reins back to the Teapugs in Nov.
You gotta love the delusional approach that the right wing nuts have.. TRUTH and FACT have little bearing on sheeple and the Helsinki syndrome. Too many Amurikans buy into Obama being the root cause of all that ails us. DO your OWN research folks, and realize that politics is dirty pool, and the OBSCENE amounts of money being spent are all about WHO HAS POWER. The Grand Obstructionist Party's FAILED trickle-down fiscal policies ran up almost $14 TRILLION ($11 when Obama took office and +$3T to cover the cost of Dubya's TWO unfunded wars) of the $15.9T debt, yet continue to blame Obama for it all.
The POTUS has reduced the deficit by 39% ($900 Billion vs. Dubya's $1.47 TRILLION in '08), but that's not enough.
The stimulus plan stemmed the loss of 700,000 jobs a month a Dubya vacationed to Crawford, TX. Ever wonder why he's not in public.. the worst President in history !!!
We need to let the Dem's finish fixing the shambles the Repulicans left us – which is the THIRD time in the last 100 yrs that they've done this. If we do not understand history, we are DOOMED to repeat it. Remember the definition of insanity ?? DO NOT VOTE GOP in Nov, or you'll get more of what caused this mess to begin with!

AVD – Obama's time in office has been hampered by a record number of outlandish filibusters and obstructionism by the RepubliCONS. Obama made a huge mistake by trying to work with the RepubliCONS. The Democrats did not "control" anything.

Romney sounds like a 12 yr old throwing out juvenile names at President Obama. It just goes to show how unqualified Romney is to lead this nation or to handle critical issues. We still do not know what Romney is FOR, what his principles are, what his solutions for jobs are and all the standard answers you expect from a serious candidate. Romney has destroyed himself – with constant false ads, hidden money all over the world, refusing to answer the most simple of questions on the issues, and hiding his tax returns which he himself has said would give the Democrats "things to attack him on". Romney needs to just concede. He is unelectable, damaged goods, and has no VP candidates anyone will care about. Once the nation understands the Ryan budget, which Romney plans to use, Romney will drop even further in the polls since it is an anti-People budget and only benefits corporations and the wealthiest of Americans. Goodbye Romney.

Did Willard or someone in his campaign think this was actually funny, or witty? What's next, spitballs? Sheesh, what a twit.

OMG – can't Willard think of anything himself, does he always have to copy what President Obama does. President Obama calls him Romney Hood yesterday and now he comes up with some stupid name. I just can't believe that Willard is the best the republicans can do – really? Ugh – he's just pathetic and as slippery as a greased pig.

Why do both campaigns sound like 3rd graders? People in this country should stop backing their party and start holding them accountable for this kind of schoolyard crap. Politics has become reality T.V.. Is there no room for an honest debate in politics anymore?
