Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) - The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Your pants are on fire. There have been absolutely no tax increases, nothing but cuts.

Release those tax returns, instead of evade the issue.

This is not becoming of a mainstream Presidential candidate.

Candidates like you ought not ever run. The GOP could have had a better choice, and the American voters would have had a greater selection between two well-deserving candidates, from two major political parties.

    Its a darn shame!

You can't have it both ways Mitt. In the Primaries you used the same kind of report from the same association. Now that the tax policy went through your plan and found out you are for the Top 5%. You don't like the truth. You can't handle the truth, worst of all you can't speak the truth. Read our lips (RELEASE YOUR TAXES)

Obama's re-election campaign is looking more and more like Nixon's '72 campaign every day. Dirty, dirty, dirty.

It took Romney 24 hours to come up with that lame response to Romneyhood? What is he going to do when he gets that 3am phone call? I wonder if Fox News came up with that line for him?

Oh goody. Now, because we've got nothing constructive to say, we'll resort to name calling. Wow, Rmoney. Time for you to go back to the sandbox with the other little kids. Obamacare, Obamalony? Is that really the best you can do. Can't say that appears remotely "presidential." Looks like your 15 minutes is over...get the Hook!

Obamaloney: How creative? He takes the suffix from his own last name (Robmey).

This guy ran away from military duty to go do Mormon in France. 5 sons, none has served. Taxes: don't ask him to pay them. Where is the patriotism Mr gov? Placing money in Swiss Banks has been a practice by Third World dictators. Now a man halfway to the White House is no better! Show your tax returns sir so that we are sure you did not rob America and you may save whatever left of your character.
Your argument is so ignorant, did you forget that neither President Clinton or President Obama served in the military and I don't think either of them would appreciate you saying they ran away from military.

Bold move by Harry Reid! Reid has nothing to lose by saying that Romney paid no taxes. Romney is now in a real bind. He will have to release his tax returns, and that spells damage, damage, damage...

Romney, just show us your Tax records as it is becoming obvious that you are hiding a serious- toxic Tax history- that you cannot allow to be made public!

It really is a sign of your fraudulence and not to be trusted for the high office of President of this country.

Obama wouldn't know if the study they handed him is correct because he doesn't have the academics to know what he is reading, he's going on what he is being instructed by all those that surround him who are actually the ones running the show.

I disagree, Harry Reid telling this lie makes me wonder how many more lies has he told the American people to get his way, for example, he was trying to get a bill passed that had to do with Green Energy in Nevada and I read his sons and the law firm they work for were going to get a kick-back and so was Harry Reid. The law firm is Lionel Sawyer & Collins. I think Harry Reid has lost a lot of voters with this lie he is telling, now if Reid produces his source of information than things would change. I think Reid should turn the person over to the IRS or FBI and let them find out if this person acquired the info on Romney's taxes legally, if it is true by evidence.
