Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) - The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Consumer spending is the largest part of the economy. Much of that spending is done by the large middle class, the true job creators. The 1% take the profits and lavish.

75 years ago when this country was in the midst of a depression the people of this country finished the building of the Golden Gate Bridge. We accomplished this goal even though this country was very poor when compared to today.

At that time, we might have made the decision to not build that bridge. We might have thought that it would cost too much. But thankfully we didn’t think that way because that bridge and many, many other worthy public projects helped to make this country great. Those things and that work and that pride helped make our people great too. The whole world could see it.

We might have instead decided to not to invest in those things and those jobs and the pride of those people. We might have instead decided that we should practice austerity and reduce public works and incongruently give large tax cuts to the very rich. That would have been good for the people who lived like Mitt. That would not have been good for this country.

We need to do what is good for this country – not just what is good for the people like Mitt.

It's what I've said all along. If Romney is elected President, America will become a country run by the rich, for the benefit of the rich with the middle class, the poor and the elderly picking up the tab. You don't think all those donors of hundreds of millions of dollars are going to go away without putting their hand out for a thank you do you?

I hate to tell you but America is run by the rich or did you conveniently forget the rich Hollywood crowd that has a saying in the White House and some of the Hollywood gang do get caught by the IRS because they don't pay taxes. Didn't Lauryn Hill just plead guilty for not paying taxes of 1.5 million dollars and Wesley Snipes in jail for not paying 15 million dollars in taxes. Wake up, Hollywood don't pay taxes.

I don't care for either side, to be honest, but is that really the best Romney could come up with. LAME. My middle school students could come up with better puns.

Really, ...more ignorant words and catch phrases? I'm so sick of the dumbing down cycle. Romney is more than willing to take this country backwards, what? What a fool. Disturbing.

    um to Myviewis-
your arguement has NOTHING to do with the subject at hand, OR to do with the person you were responding to. AGAIN, if rmoney were to be elected, the middle class would be GONE! Like everything rmoney does, the middle class is ALWAYS hurt!

The British Press had it right when they called Romney "NoWhere Man" as he is all talk and NO substance....what did he do as Governor? Passed RomneyCare....and now he regrets it....the republicans don't even want Bush/Cheney to talk at their convention because Romney is Bush-lite.....We do NOT want a third term of Bush's failed administration based on fear! In their dililgence to defeat Obama, they have produced NO facts to deny him a well deserved second term. America needs to go forward, NOT backwards.

And herein lies the racist root of the hatred of one of the finest presidents we've ever had.
