Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) – The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

People who do not pay their fair share in taxes are criminals. Mittens, show us your taxes. $!00 million in an IRA is not legal. Maybe Tom DeLay will leave a light on for Mittens in prison.

Without Romney letting us know things like which deductions he'd cut or what the income levels his proposed rates would fall under, we can't say if he would raise taxes on anyone.

Don't we have less govt employees now than 2008? And I hate to break it to you, the military is part of the fed govt. Growing them, no matter how you feel about it, is growing govt. Not to mention increased medical pay and retirement benefits. Not saying they don't earn those. But adding more resources into the military isn't a priority right now. And how do conservatives like govt getting involved in women's health? Like mandating ultrasounds? Whether or not you approve of abortion, the govt forcing folks to purchase unnecessary and unwanted tests for a legal procedure goes against what you say you believe in.

Since you guys are big on crony capitalism, care to explain why Romney donors got big bucks from him during his time as Governor? Or how he pushed for Staples to get a contract with the Olympics in Utah? Seems to me like everyone's doing it.

The rest of the statement is just as much bunk as the first part.

@ Obama the enabler, are you serious?. He had to keep the Bush Tax cuts because of the idiots you voted into the house and senate would not compromise or try to come to some kind of agreement. You must be a tea partier, not just a GOP conservative. Obviously you do not read much or pay attention to what is really going on. They only agenda they had was to make President Obama a one-term president or did you forget about it, agreed with it or didn't care that McConnell said that on national TV so long as it would come true? The party that is bringing America down is the GOP/TP and they all need to go.

He already stalks the president from campaign site to site , now this guy can't even come up with a campaign line without Obama doing it first. He is one dumb guy to be "so smart"! If this is any indication of what kind if president he willl be, then Lord have mercy on us all!

I like President Obama. I voted for him. But this quote hurts...

"While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

Why is the truth such a vile thing for Republicans? Romney's tax plans will lower taxes on the ultra rich, and raise taxes on the rest of us. How much it benefits/hurts you depends on a few things.
I seem to remember a calculator on line that will help make that clear.

Pretending otherwise is just being a worthless liar.

@Obama the enabler- Obviously you do not know how our government works. It does take the GOP congress to pass the bill and they held out, if the working people get the tax cut so do the millionaires and billionaires, remember them holding it hostage? It is the republicans who hold out for the wealthy.
Read Romneys tax plan, who is giving to the wealthy and cutting deductions for the middle class.

I'm still now sure how Romney is arguing that including the additional big tax breaks he's going to give to rich corporatiions will result in less taxes for the middle class. That just doesn't add up.

Release your tax reports, period! The American people should not acept this lame excuse from Mitt. He eisther releases his tax returns or he can't be on the ballot. This man is crazy for power and for the rich. He wants a two tier country: rich and poor. How sad for the majority of people in this great country to go from good so bad becasue the greed of people like Mitt. He must have something terrible to hide in his tax returns. Go ahead and bite the dust and do it. It can only hurt for a little while.
