Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) - The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Mitt's campaign is awfully reactive. His mantra seems to be "Yeah I am, but so are you!!"

It's now fair to assume Romney did something on his tax returns that was so horrible he could never get elected if America saw the truth. Why wouldn't Republicans want to see those returns before trying to put a cheat (and possibly a criminal) in a position to impact our future?

How many times are the republicans going to try to tell me that lowering taxes increases revenue? It's been tried. It doesn't work. It never works. It was baloney to begin with.

  15. Wake up people

Show us the taxes Willard. And to any and all idiots that ask for President Obama's transcripts I ask, has ANYONE else been asked for such a thing? The answer is NO. But don't forget Willards father started this so for him to not do the one thing the people ask is very telling. President Obama has gone above and beyond for Americans but Willard won't do just one thing. Whatever is in those taxes must be bad if McCain picked Caribou Barbie as his running mate. People should be outraged that a lying flip flopper is trying to buy his way into the White House with deception and lies. If President Obama had provided only 1 year of taxes the baggers would be salivating. As for the transcripts, not gonna happen, he has already shown more than any other Presidential candidate.

    OBAMA 2012!

I like romney-hood better. Show your tax returns or except the fact that we believe you guilty as charged. He lied about his taxes when he was running for Gov of MA and there is absolutely nothing that convines me he is not lying again. He is a flip-flopping, empty souled, tax cheating liar!!

Reagan disclosed only one year of tax returns, McCain disclosed 2 years. Romney has disclosed one year and promises to release 2011 soon... as long as he does that, I believe he meets his obligation.

I recall that Bush released his college transcripts from Harvard/Yale... and was C's. I beleive Romney has released his transcripts as well. It strikes me odd that Obama will not. Why?

Come on, Romney. Can't you come up with something original? FFS, you want to be president, and all you can do is copy other people? This is the best the GOP has to offer? It's getting pathetic.

This is outragous coming from a person who is throwing up smoke and mirrors all over the place. How this man twists and turns makes him more of a weather vane, then one who will stand strong when the winds of globel politics starts battering the House. If he has nothing to hide, then let him reveal his tax returns-as a start. Let's start hearing some specifics on the issues, not the retoric; make his super pacs stop with the bombardment of specious ads, and all the other distractive noise.
