Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) - The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Watch out Romney, a large part of your base has baloney for lunch several times a week.

Did you know that baloney is just a flattened out hot dog?

Leave it to Romney to make up a stupid word that ends in the letters O-N-E-Y.

It is amazing to see so many losers on this site!!! All you people want is for the government to take money from the rich and give it to you!!!! LAZY!!! Guess what.....the rich EARNED that money!!!! Go earn your own money! Flat tax the only way to go 15% no matter what you make!!!!! THAT is the only FAIR way! Why do you want to punish someone for making something of themselves??? Makes no sense!

Romney's so childish. He reminds me of the boys I went to high school with who were the football and baseball players. They were crude and totally self-centered. They were tolerated because they brought "fame" to the high school through athletics. That was long before no pass – no play was the rule. Romney is stuck in a previous decade I think. It's disrespectful of the office of the Presidency to make a remark like "Obamaloney." It's clear Romney's speech writers came up with that one. Romney will be a confused President if he is elected. He isn't a leader. He is demonstrating all the characteristics of someone who has been molded by other people and who has no depth of character or personality of his own. The GOP is looking for another Ronald Reagan. This is a different time and we're in a different place in our country's development. "Aw shucks m'am" just won't cut it anymore.

I can remember the days when candidates referred to each other as "distinguished" and "honored". 21st century politics has turned into a third grade name-calling contest? Quite the state of affairs we have descended into. I'm embarassed...

The commercials posted during the Olympics state that Romney "saved" the Olympics. Really. He is appearing more frightening as the time goes by.

I said it from the begining, Romney acts like he is in High School still. He really is not in touch with reality at all. Ill bet his not showing his taxes has something to do with the Church. Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. he is a Bishop there and was when the taxes that he's not showing are in question of. All religious Churches are exempt. You can literally funnel money anyway and anywhere you want to with-out any question. Think about it.

LOL @ MeToo RMoney. He's so awkward, it's almost painful to watch him try to match jabs with the POTUS. Almost. But instead it's just funny seeing him try to generate some comebacks that are always lame and end up making him look even more like the fool he is.
After Willard tells us what sort of "hardware stuff" he bought yesterday along with grocery shopping in his mom jeans, he really needs to come clean with the American people and show his tax returns. What's Willard hiding?

Mitt lost my vote when he began taking money from foreign countries to finance his campaign. I prefer a president who can't be bought.

I'll "Bet Mittler" paid a fortune for some hack to come up with "Obamaloney". Probably done by someone named "Lou Poles" or "D. Duckshun". He's not bright enough to do word play on his own. I've heard funnier stuff on an elementary school playground. His "a-tax" on the President won't get peoples' minds off his returns, though.

This is what I would like to know ... how is Reid paying 100K a year for a room in the Ritz Carlton on his salary as a Senator? I caluclated this by takign the lowest priced room and multiplying it by 365 ... he doesn't have a low priced room he has a suite which is over $500 per night.
I don't know what he's paying, but many hotels, especially those with suites, have extended-stay charges. I'm living in a hotel right now. My room is $120 per night. I pay $200 per week. Your numbers are likely flawed.

Can this guy say anything intelligent? If his intent is to drive voters away he's doing a great job.

The liberals keep trying to attack Mitt over his taxes, yet if there was a problem the IRS would know it. However it sure took Obama a long time to show proof of his birth certificate.

Who is dependent on the 'baloney"? "Reid is a liar" ... No "Romney is a liar" ... the accusations go on with purposeful vigor to keep the public distracted and then needing to affirm their loyalty. How about just quickly and easily ending it all by clearly exposing the truth .... with Romney just releasing his multiple year tax returns (like everyone else has and like his father did). And if he doesn't, then the obvious would be that he is the "liar" and no matter what else is said, that is the end of it. It simply isn’t about Obama v Romney, it is about the truth and for Romney to simply release his tax returns so the public is able to see the truth.

    @Kevin in Atlanta

We are talking about the issues? Romney Hood claims to know all about money, finance and the economy, yet he is incredibly resistant to demonstrating to us that he really knows what he's talking about.

At this point it's really not much different than going in for a Job interview, but insisting that you aren't going to release your resume. We certainly aren't going to hire Romney on 'Good Faith', especially with Obama already in office doing a pretty decent job of repairing the damage Bush inflicted on us.

The only thing 'transparent' about Romney is his lies. If he so desparately wants the presidency he is going to have to prove to us that he really does know what he's talking about. Tax returns, or GTFO Mitt!
