Romney: President's jab is a bunch of 'Obamaloney'

(CNN) – The political puns won't stop.

After being labeled "Romney Hood" - Robin Hood in reverse - by the president Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney fired back with his own wordplay Tuesday, calling President Barack Obama's jab a bunch of "Obamaloney."

"He is serving up a dish that is in contradiction to the truth," Romney said in an interview with Fox News.

Romney's lunch meat rebuttal came the day after Obama, speaking at a campaign rally in Connecticut, railed against Romney's tax proposals, saying they amount to "Robin Hood in reverse."

"It's Romney Hood," the president added to loud applause from 500 supporters in a Stamford, Connecticut ballroom.

The comments were in reference to a recent report from the non-partisan Tax Policy Institute that claims Romney's tax proposals are likely to result in a net tax increase of $2,000 for middle-class wage earners while cutting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the tax bills of the country's most wealthy.

"He'd ask the middle class to pay more in taxes so he could give another $250,000 to those making more than $3 million a year," Obama also said at the event. The Romney campaign has disputed the study, arguing that the analysis was flawed because it did not account for additional revenue that would result from a reduction in the corporate tax rate - another part of the candidate's plan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the president's remarks in a statement Monday night, calling the attacks false.

"President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He's trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren't true," Williams wrote. "There's only one candidate in this race who's going to raise taxes on the American people – and that's Barack Obama. While he's used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class – and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it."

CNN's Alex Mooney and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

    Hey "Mitt the Twit"

Your comment of: "Mitt – release your tax plan, release your tax returns, or else shut up about other people 'cos you've offered NOTHING"

    should be re-written as:

Obama – release your tax plan that even democrats will vote yes on, release your college transcripts, or else shut up about other people 'cos you've offered NOTHING"

Yea, that's just as accurate, since obama hasn't been able to get anything approved – even by his own party – which btw, was in charge for 2 full years.

It is absolutely obvious that Romney and the Republicans represent "the money", the very wealthy, their strong supporters and masters, and that they feel they can just con and manipulate the majority, the middle-class as they take for granted that with the money, power and influence of "the money" they can propagandize the country once again, as they did to manipulate the Evangelistic Christian, with the Swift-boat propaganda, with the Tea Party movement and with the mega-millions spent in the Wisconsin recall election, all being well designed, well directed and well funded efforts to sway voters in the same single direction. Are we the voters that gullible and naive that we don't look beyond the abundant paid for propaganda and are just "pawns" in their game, buying and accepting whatever they say, even to supporting them when they favor only "the money" and take the people for granted?

It seems to be an insult against an Irish name: Maloney. But I do not understand why the Romney campaign would want to insult the Irish? Are they saying Obama was born in Ireland now? His father was Kenyan and his mom was from the East Coast somewhere. Of the USA. Obama was born in Hawaii, and Hawaii was added to the Union about 1951 wasn't it?

More relevant to anything in real life: I think I have to change banks ASAP, because I heard my bank gave money to the Romney campaign, and I pretty much believe the Republican party is quite often on the wrong side of Good. Or at least first I have to holler at my bank about it (Wells Fargo).

Obamaloney??? Is this part of your strateegery?? There's a reason he didn't get a second term in Mass., he wouldn't have won. Some people achieve high office because they want to help the masses, others run for high office because they believe they are destined. Destiny's child is not running in this election, sorry Mittwit.

"Reid is a liar" ... No "Romney is a liar" ... the accusations go on with purposeful vigor to keep the public distracted and then needing to affirm their loyalty. How about just quickly and easily ending it all by clearly exposing the truth .... with Romney just releasing his multiple year tax returns (like everyone else has and like his father did). And if he doesn't, then the obvious would be that he is the "liar" and no matter what else is said, that is the end of it. It simply isn’t about Obama v Romney, it is about the truth and for Romney to simply release his tax returns so the public is able to see the truth.

I think Mitt the Twit missed his true calling in life. He is better at stand up comedy than any thing else. I mean, every time he opens his mouth I laugh. He is a funny man.

Gov. Romney is not presidential material, everyone knows that. He represents the 1%,who are trying to buy influence in Washington. Adelson and the Koch brothers must be stopped. Vote for President Obama and Joe Biden. President Obama deserves another 16 years for killing Osama bin Laden during his administration.

What kind of a challenger Romney is? Has he ever challenged anyone or is this his first time! He is making the campaign very boring.

@Z_2k: Mine has. Thanks to Obama Care I cannot be rejected from Health Insurance. And thanks to his initiatives during his first 2 years stemming what could have been the next Great Depression, I am not only employed but many skilled-labor people I know of are either employed or can easily find a job. I still pay the government taxes and do not "freeload" off of anything, and yet his policies have made us safer and more economical than we were 4 years ago.

So yeah, things are better over here. If its not better for you, it is probably better to look at yourself and find out what you are doing wrong. Cause this "recession" really isn't hurting anybody I know of personally, and I don't make more than $60k/yr.

Obama this, Obama that.....ALL of these problems created in 4 short years?...cmon, stop kidding yourselves. These problems were DECADES in the making. Dem / Pub. makes no difference coz everyone in bed with everyone else. those of you who say everyone lookin for a handout...LOOK AT YOUR ELECTED LEADERS!!!!! so they only make laws for the good of the nation, right? not trying to get anything in return? WRONG. they are looking for a handout. So if my congressman can take a handout, why can't I? I am not a fan of Obama, nor am I a supporter. But he is certainly the lesser of 2 evils in this case. If you vote for Romney and against your OWN interests, then you deserve everything you got coming to you.

Maloney is an Irish name! Why does the Republican campaign (government for the corporations, by the corporations ...) want to insult the Irish? How far is that going to get them? Are they trying to insinuate that Obama was born in Ireland? He was born in Hawaii! His father was from Kenya and his mother was from the East coast of the U.S. or something! Hawaii was added to the US something like 1951! (I forgot! 1949?) Anyway, he's not Irish! This is about how intelligent Republicans (and corporations) generally are. Corporations are for brands and profits; government is for people! Republican party seems to be all about corruption, flag-worship, gun-worship, and false religion; I don't really get why anyone votes for them at all, unless they're just close-minded and thoughtless, really thoughtless.

Romney always copies Obama campaign efforts. If there is any baloney it is Romney and his constant flip flopping. He's got all the money, but he is as phony as a two dollar bill. These posts that blame Obama for no jobs are ridiculous. Do people really think Romney policies would do any better? Obama saved us from a great depression. We are slowily regaining what Bush did to the economy with his wars and tax breaks for the rich. Come on Obama campaign start talking about what you have achieved!!

In 1994, Romney demanded that Massachusetts Senatorial candidate Ted Kennedy release his tax returns.

Romney said: "It's time the biggest-taxing senator in Washington shows the people of Massachusetts how much he pays in taxes."

So, come on Mitt, why are you allowed to ask it of others, but we can't ask it of you.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy!

  19. Governor 47th In Job Creation (Excluding Off-shored to China and India)

some mouth-breather wrote: ObaHoodie: Steals from the successful to give to campaign donors.

The "successful" steal from the middle class by way of buying politicians and getting tax codes passed that are favorable to the "successful".
You keep believing that trickle down works. We've had that with the shrub, where are the jobs?
Let's look at a case in point of its failure: your train-wreck candidate. With all of his wealth, he is defined by Luntz, Boehner, Cantor, etc as a "job creator". The Job Creator Romney has not only failed to create a job for himself, but he certainly has not helped the country by taking his tax savings and promptly moving that money to the Caymans, Bermuda, and Switzerland (are there more perhaps? release the returns). No job creation there. How about when he was heading up Bain: yup creating jobs in India and China... off-shoring jobs because it's cheaper - always remember profits before people - it's the GOP way. Let's look at MA even though Willard likes to pretend he was never Gov there. Yup, more off-shoring state jobs, and promptly leaping 10 spots IN THE WRONG DIRECTION for job creation. Bye 37th, helloooooo 47th. These are facts, as inconvenient as they may be.

Z_2k, yes my situation is better since the recession was over...I got a newer job and raise. Also, I DON'T know of anyone who is uneployed. and that include family and friends of friends...so if you having it tough right now and can't find a job or know of someone in that situation...maybe you should give it some thought that you may not have the skills needed...you may may lack education or skills...If you lost your job, is that skill warranted anymore...and will move anywhere to get a job??? Don't blame the president for your lack of qualifications...

I guess I'm still wondering....if the rich have already had these tax cuts for so long and it was supposed to spur growth here, how come no one can show that?? yet you want to blame Obama for the past three years, when the tax cuts have still been in place and nothing is happening. You will blame it on the Affordable Care Act and other things, but the right still doesn't explain why there wasn't growth during Bush's terms....oh I have heard it was because of September 11th....so the excuse is September 11 for 8 or 9 years but as soon as the president changes it is now no longer an excuse and everything is Obama's fault.

Guys i voted for Obama in 2008 but will not anymore. He did not do anything for me but just raised taxes on me. I waited patiently for Obama to do something for me and my family but nothing got done. At the same time, he helped all the groups that pandered to him (gays, big companies that he bailed out, etc). I sat and thought about this and i really do want Romney as our next president. He is rich but that is what i want as a president for the best country on the planet. I would rather have a millionaire be our president and not a community orgenizer that just talks.
