Voter ID lawsuits could delay election results again

Washington (CNN) – Partisan legal showdowns in battleground states over a spate of new voting laws could turn the 2012 elections into a repeat of the 2000 presidential vote recount saga, political experts say.

"Whenever you change the rules by enacting new laws, it triggers a round of litigation. I don't think we'll see an end to this anytime soon," said Dan Tokaji, an Ohio State University law professor. "It could come down to the states counting of absentee ballots. ... We could see a replay of the 2000 election, where we don't have a winner for weeks."

Why do all the voter ID lawsuits get pushed right before an election?
It is to deter voters, making it harder and harder to vote is ridiculous because it is an American right.
You should just be able to show up, you are registered to vote with your address, you should be able to just prove that (like the water bill with your name and address).
This has just become an outrageous joke to all Americans.

The Voters Act is phrased in such a way that the intent of new voting laws are irrelevant. Only the effective results of the law are all that matters. Also, the law clearly states that a "device" shall not be required in order to vote. I would believe that a photo ID meets the definition of a "device", as defined in the law not the dictionary

  5. 92 Days until Obama is RE-ELECTED

Most intelligent Americans realize that the VoterID laws being pursued by the Grand Obstructionist Party are a way to legitimately reduce the Democrat voter base. Voter fraud has been proven to be NON-EXISTENT in most states, with VERY few cases EVER being prosecuted. Even in totally red-state TX, from where Gubner Goodhair and his AG crony that files all the lawsuits, they have only had about 5 cases in 10 yrs..
This is a thinly veiled excuse by the Teapugs to reduce the opposition voter rolls...

Of course it's going to be like 2000, the GOP is desperate to get another white male idiot back into the White House. They have had 4 years to plan this. The difference this time is President Obama is no pushover and he will fight back and expose the corruption by the right wing extremists. Anyone with half a brain knew what they were up to with their faux voting fraud. The GOP/baggers are the frauds, one congressman here in Michigan got caught a few months ago. Needless to say the news downplayed it but this congress person had approximately 1800 signatures and only 300 were legit. And yes he is a rethuglican.

    OBAMA 2012!

If these voter ID laws restrict eligible voters from voting, you can expect chaos and anarchy in the streets. Enough said!

They will try anything to make sure that the votes are rigged so they can steal votes, they did this when Bush ran for 2nd term and the votes were stolen like they steal everything else, all of a sudden they want to change the voting law, WHY, THEY NEVER DID THIS BEFORE PRESIDENT OBAMA.

This is exactly what the Republican intent is. A cynical and repressive attempt to repress voters known to be likely Democratic voters!

The Republicans are nothing less than a destructive force in our democracy taking us all back in time to controlling other peoples hard fought for freedoms in this country.

They need to be stopped in this effort by the Justice Department Now!

That's right Teapublicans, cheat any way you can. If you can't buy the votes, then purge the voters, if that
doesn't work, keep those lawsuits coming, then you can turn it over to SCOTUS to make the decision for
the rest of us. After all, you are running another GW Bush for President, and look how well that turned out for
you, but not for the rest of us.

There is no evidence...zero, none, nada, keine, zilch, 0%...evidenec of the existence of the problem (widespread, inin-person voter fraud) that these laws are supposed to fix. WHEN THE PROBLEM DOESN'T EXIST, THEN YOU DON'T NEED A "SOLUTION." his is nothing more than the GOP/Teatrolls trying to disenfranchise minorities, youth voters, the elderly and others in major urban centers who trend toward voting Dem/liberal. There is absolutely no other explanation for it. Widespread, pervasive, in-person voter fraud is a fairy tale myth invented by jackholes like Van Spakovsky and others from right-wing extremist "think" tanks who are desperate to find ways to keep the GOP winning elections despite the massive and rapid growth of the minority population and the changing beliefs of the growing elderly population. The proof is in the pudding...and again, the pudding here is the ABSENCE of evidence that the "problem" exists that this "solution" is meant to "solve." The only "problem" these laws are designed to "solve" is likely Dem voters, particularly minorities, getting to cast ballots after 60+ years of the GOP alienating them.

"all of a sudden they want to change the voting law, WHY, THEY NEVER DID THIS BEFORE PRESIDENT OBAMA."

Explanation simple: Obama's black and he was elected by an overwhelming majority of minority and youth voters. The elderly/retired population is also growing fast and its beliefs are changing from the cold more of the cold war era mentality towards baby boomers and hippy generation. The bare bones of it is that the GOP/Teatrolls have a GIANT demographics problem lying in wait for them ready to gobble them up within the next couple decades, like some rogue socialist muslim POTUS from Kenya run amok.

    Hey GOPers....BOO!

You merely prove the point by engaging in that kind of silliness. People didn't vote for him just because of skin color, but you tell yourself that so you can sleep at night. Hint: You're only making the demographics problem worse by engaging in suppression efforts and denial won't make it go away. In the end, the only thing suppressed will be GOP/Teatroll presence.

BTW, if people haven't figured it out yet: these voter suppression efforts are intended to snag the GOP the couple more terms they need to finish what they started during Dubya's term. The party of plutocrats KNOWS it has a massive, inevitable demographics problem and it intends to finish the looting of America and execution by starvation of the federal gov't in short order because they simply don't want to live in a brown America that they no longer have any chance of controlling.

most people who don't have a pictured id (which we all know is a drivers license. are the old and inner city people who don't have cars or a need up until now for a drivers liciense. many could not pass the test to even get one. any other id will be challenged by the repubs. the repubs that pushed this idea in many states knew just what they are doing fixing a problem that isn't there. its called "hedge funding" beting that you may not winn the election unless you fix it!

What is wrong with showing your ID??? You have to use an ID to cash a paycheck, welfare check, pickup Food Stamps, fill out government forms, buy liquor, buy cigarettes. Colleges require an ID. Writing a check requires an ID. Are you guys saying people cashing welfare checks or picking up food stamps are doing so without showing an ID?

All swing states? Wow.. the Republicans aren't even trying to hide their intentions anymore. Anything to get back the power, anything to keep the most money.
This all may not matter once Romney does/doesnt release those pesky taxes. Albatross indeed.
