(CNN) - Asked Thursday what Mitt Romney wants his running mate to say about the presumptive GOP nominee, the candidate said he's looking for someone with "strength of character."
"I don't think I have anything for you on the VP running mate," Romney said in an interview on NBC News. "I certainly expect to have a person that has a strength of character, a vision for the country that adds something to the political discourse about the direction of the country."

He continued: "I happen to believe this is a defining election for America, that we're going to be voting for what kind of America we're going to have."
With less than three weeks left before the Republican National Convention, speculation over Romney's potential vice presidential nominee has picked up momentum among the political establishment.
But Romney and his campaign have remained tight-lipped, with only the candidate, his wife, Ann, and his adviser, Beth Myers, knowing the full details of the decision process.

"Romney wants running mate with 'vision for the country'"
'Cuz Lord knows Mittens is an empty-headed twit proposing the same-old, same-old GOP economic, military and foreign policies that are PROVEN FAILURES.
Obama/Biden 2012 = The only sane choice
Mr. Romney does not want a VP with "vision for the country", he wants one with a "vision of the country CLUB".
Well, we know what his vision will be along with his repuglican buddies in Florida! CNN, where is the story the GOP's "Block the Vote" effort! I especially would like to see reporting on Jim Greer former Chairman of the GOP in Florida! He recently blew the whistle on repuglican tactics to suppress minority voting! CNN, ! Repugligan's game has no shame, just dishonesty, lies, distortions, veiled and subliminal erratic political gamesmanship, that leave the American people toothless, when it comes to policies that will benefit them not the rich, corporations or just say the top 1 percent! Repuglicans vision, the, evaporation of 1/2 trillion surplus, -8.9 GDP, 11 trillion national debt, 1.3 trillion deficit, 2.8 trillion in tax cuts (unpaid for)2 Wars (unpaid for), Medicare prescription plan (unpaid for), 3 trillion borrowed from China, a Wall Street, Banking, Auto, Mortgage crisis’s, losing over 800,000 jobs monthly and a economy on the brink of depression when President Obama took office!
In other words, a perfect foil for you, Mitt!
If Romney wants to be president then all he has to do is pick Allen West as his VP.
I look forward to having a Vice President that doesn't make a mockery of the position like Joe Biden has done. It will be nice to have people working in the White House that are concentrating on the direction our country takes and take their positions with pride, honor to be public servants who respect everyone, not this joke, ridicule, nasty, insulting, rude presidency of Obama and Biden who act like spoiled, rich kids with an ego that is bigger than our country. I hope we can say good-bye to those 2 jokers.
Yeah, because ROMNEY has NO VISION!
OBAMA 2012!
Certainly, Mitt needs a person who has a moral character and a vision because he doesn't have both
Please, please pick Ryan. Ryan would be just another nail in the romneys coffin
Yes indeed, he'll need someone with a vision because he certainly lacks one.
Rommney hood how dose that work. Your vision will be for the 1% and his vision will be for the 99% knowing that he will never potus.
"I certainly expect to have a person that has a strength of character, a vision for the country that adds something to the political discourse about the direction of the country."
- someone who can demonstrate that do not give a hoot about the man on the street, but will bend over backwards to give the already rich more cash. Someone who can repeal laws giving people affordable health care with a clear conscience. Ideally they will hate gays, women, blacks , hispanics, illegals, muslims , communists, unions and pot smokers. The Republican nightmare continues......
That would be refreshing as at least the VP would have a vision for the country!
And that description sure sounds like Ryan is gonna be the one! After the latest Fox poll has Mitt the Twit behind by 9 points(that would be 3 times the margin of error) and the popularity of Ryan's "pathway to poverty" among independents, Mittens may want to "spin the bottle" again.
The GOP asked for "party purity", they got what they wanted, so no whining win you lose!
He would need one, wouldn't he? It won't be him!
Funny how Romney wants a VP with "Vision for the country". Why? Don't you have one, Mitt? Aren't you on top of the ticket running to be President? Shouldn't the vision come from you? Or do you plan on leading from behind??
Good idea, someone on the GOP tickets needs a vision ... other than lining his own pockets with money.
Romney wants a running mate with a vision for the Country ? Is Mr. Romney kidding ? Where's the vision he is suppose to have ? Or is that up to the V.P. ? I wish someone would tell me why on earth he is running for POTUS. For Gods sake, Everytime he opens his mouth it's a disaster on High speed ! I wish we could fast forward to election day and let Mr. Romney make the call to the President and wish him well and we all can get on with moveing this country in the right direction.
hey Robme i want to see your tax returns and your birth certificate
What secrets are hiding in Mitt Romney's tax returns?
In 1968, when Romney’s father, George Romney, released 12 years of tax returns — saying, “one year could be a fluke” — his Republican primary opponent Richard Nixon didn’t release any tax returns
Funny, I always thought it was the president who was supposed to have a vision for the nation. I guess Romney is following the Bush/Cheney model.
I'm sure there are several Democrats available. Republicans only look backwards so we don't need that kind of vision.
Since Mitt Romney is Void of any vision . It's nice to know his VP will ?
What Planet is this guy from ?
It might help if Romney himself had a vision for the country. I sure don't see one.
If Romney picks Marco Rubio, he loses because Rubio's ties are too close to the Bush's and people know he's a Bush boy. Romney better play it safe and get the boring guy from Ohio, that might be a better chance because all the rest have nothing to offer to the ticket, but Ohio does.
Santorum has a vision. A christian version of Iran.
Vision – you mean to make up for the fact that Romney has none and won't commit to one single, solid idea on running the country?
