BREAKING: Romney to announce vice presidential pick Saturday

(CNN) - Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will announce his vice presidential candidate Saturday at an event in Virginia, his campaign said.

Romney called several of the Republicans on his vice presidential shortlist on Friday evening to tell them he has selected a running mate and to thank them for assisting with his campaign, a Republican familiar with the calls told CNN.

Romney did not indicate who he selected as his running mate, according to the source.

CNN Political Reporter Peter Hamby contributed to this report.

Announcing on Saturday means no news pickup and no real time for Sunday talk shows to prepare.

Probably indicates a boring choice, like Rob Portman.

Oh no! What is CNN going to speculate on after it's announced? the majority of ticker stuff for weeks has been about the circus of picking the vp candidate. I, for one, am tired of all of these so-called surrogates. Thank God it is almost over.

Isn't Saturday the Sabbath according to Jews and 7th Day Adventists? Why does he hates Jews and Adventists so much as to work on the holy day?

Since when does anyone "reveal" their VP choice BEFORE their actual nomination. This is exactly why Romney is such a horrible candidate. He acts so high and mighty even before the party nominates him. I suppose Ann decided, after spending half a million on Rafalca, that they had had "enough of you people" and should just run the country on their own without the delegates even voting the oh so above it all Romney for their candidate for the Presidency. What a pair of phonies.

He's gonna pick a General.. he wants in on the military industrial complex. He's already raided corporations, busted unions and sold off american jobs. I bet now he wants to make a little war money for his buddies.
