(CNN) - Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will announce his vice presidential candidate Saturday at an event in Virginia, his campaign said.
Romney called several of the Republicans on his vice presidential shortlist on Friday evening to tell them he has selected a running mate and to thank them for assisting with his campaign, a Republican familiar with the calls told CNN.
Romney did not indicate who he selected as his running mate, according to the source.

Why didn't he wat until after the olympics in order to the maximum coverage out of this? All that the news cycle will be talking abour on Sunday/Monday will be the closing ceremony and return of athletes so this seems like a really bizarre more to me. Maybe the Republicans are tring to throw the race because they know the next four years are going to be bad no matter what whoever is president does.
Announcing your running mate at 9AM on a Saturday when most of the country is sleeping in, most of the main-stream news anchors and shows are off for the weekend and people are generally relaxing and not dealing with nonsense? Doesn't show a lot of confidence in one's selection.

I think Romney will pick Rubio because he could bring in Florida and the hispanic vote. Also, Rubio could help with Romney's electability. Ryan may be the most intellectual, but he seems to lack huevos. Therefore, Christie might be a good choice to kick a3#3 and take names on Obama's continuing lies.

Paul Ryan is suggested to be his pick, but the people I know who label themselves as "Conservatives" do not like this idea. Ryan ID's himself as an "Evangelical Christian". Most of the people I know ID themselves as Christian, but once you add that extra tag, "Evangelical" to it, it scares even some of the Conservatives. Evangelicals make no qualms about mixing religion... THEIR religion... with law making, and people should be very VERY scared about allowing someone like that into such a position of power.
Perhaps you should read up on what happens when countries allow religious leaders to lead their countries based on "faith" ... you'll come up with names like Syria, Iraq, Iran.... Religious freedom is great. Being able to worship any way you like is a wonderful freedom we have. But when you mix religion with politics – it's a recipe for disaster.
Whoever Mitt selects will be a strong candidate. Look forward to tomorrow.

I guess the latest polls are forcing this liar to make an early announcement. It will not matter. Just produce your taxes; no one cares who you select as a running mate. With your background as a flip flopper you will make an announcement tomorrow, say you never selected that person and select a new running mate. So, what does it matter who you pick?????

yay! let mitten's attempt to control the free fall of his numbers by changing the headlines. it won't work american's have a visceral sense when it comes to knowing when someone is playing them and his taxes will haunt him until the last vote is counted. he will not have a chance of winning if he doesn't release his taxes for many years back, its that simple...
So far this election is lacking the comedy factor...Palin and Biden set a very high standard that so far has not been equaled. Obama has, to my dismay, kept Biden in check this time. I'm counting on Mittens to deliver on this one.
