(CNN) - Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will announce his vice presidential candidate Saturday at an event in Virginia, his campaign said.
Romney called several of the Republicans on his vice presidential shortlist on Friday evening to tell them he has selected a running mate and to thank them for assisting with his campaign, a Republican familiar with the calls told CNN.
Romney did not indicate who he selected as his running mate, according to the source.

Let us only hope he has the sense to avoid Paul Ryan. Mr. Ryan might be the most dangerous man in Washington to our seniors. His budget cuts turn medicare into a voucher system and it hurts seniors who have contributed for years. He points to these programs as unaffordable yet he cuts taxes for the top earners and increases spending on defense. The man has a vendetta against the elderly.
Rumors are flying in the media that it will be Paul Ryan. What a dream come true for the Democrats, almost as good as Sarah Palin or Donald Trump. Paul Ryan's budget includes hundreds of billions of dollars in increased defense spending, huge cuts to taxes for the wealthy, deficit reductions, and he plans to pay for all of this by cutting Medicare, Medicaid, and food aid to the poor. This completes the GOP team which wants to make corporations and the wealthy even wealthier at the expense of the American middle class and poor. Romney just gave Obama's campaign an armory full of ammunition with which to blast them out of the election.
