(CNN) - President Barack Obama's campaign manager, Jim Messina, issued a statement on Mitt Romney's running mate selection as the candidate announced his pick in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday morning:
"In naming Congressman Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney has chosen a leader of the House Republicans who shares his commitment to the flawed theory that new budget-busting tax cuts for the wealthy, while placing greater burdens on the middle class and seniors, will somehow deliver a stronger economy. The architect of the radical Republican House budget, Ryan, like Romney, proposed an additional $250,000 tax cut for millionaires, and deep cuts in education from Head Start to college aid. His plan also would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher system, shifting thousands of dollars in health care costs to seniors. As a member of Congress, Ryan rubber-stamped the reckless Bush economic policies that exploded our deficit and crashed our economy. Now the Romney-Ryan ticket would take us back by repeating the same, catastrophic mistakes."
Richmond, Virginia (CNN) – With Paul Ryan's controversial entitlement reform plan certain to take center stage in the presidential campaign now that the Wisconsin congressman has been tapped as Mitt Romney's running mate, Romney officials are circulating talking points about Medicare to their allies and campaign surrogates.
The Romney campaign is also briefing surrogates on a conference call at 10:30 a.m. ET to walk through their messaging about the Ryan pick and their strategies for rebuffing attacks from the Obama campaign.

Richmond, Virginia (CNN) - Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will announce his running mate at the beginning of a four-day, four-state bus tour in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET, his campaign announced in a statement late Friday night.
Three Republican sources told CNN that Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin would be Romney’s running mate pick. GOP sources also told CNN that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman have all been told that they won’t be getting the nod.
(CNN) – Mitt Romney's team announced Saturday morning that Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin will be Romney's running mate.
The campaign made the announcement just after 7 a.m. ET on the campaign's smart-phone and web application.
(CNN) - When Rep. Paul Ryan first revealed his House GOP budget proposal in the Spring of 2011, Democratic reaction was swift and biting. One much-maligned ad from a liberal advocacy group showed a Ryan look-alike pushing an elderly woman in a wheelchair off a cliff, ending with the tagline: "Is America beautiful without Medicare? Ask Paul Ryan and his friends in Congress."
As Mitt Romney prepares to hit the trail with Ryan as his running mate, Democrats eager to pounce on the newly created Republican ticket are almost certainly preparing similar - if not quite so drastic - attacks against Ryan's controversial budget plan.
