Paul Ryan economics: 5 things to know

New York (CNNMoney) - In picking Paul Ryan as his running mate, Mitt Romney has made clear what this year's presidential election will be about: Taxes, spending and the future of government programs in people's lives.

Ryan is the leading Republican thinker on budget issues in the House and his 2013 budget proposal - released in March and called "Path to Prosperity" - takes aim at many of President Obama's policies and proposals.

Axelrod calls Ryan a 'right wing ideologue'

(CNN) – A day after Mitt Romney named Rep. Paul Ryan his running mate, the Democratic attack line on the newly minted Republican ticket centered on Ryan's budget proposal and his conservative stance on social issues.

Romney, Ryan to campaign 'on different tracks' until convention

(CNN) – Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, will campaign together in Wisconsin on Sunday, but going forward the two members of the newly formed Republican ticket will campaign "on different tracks," a Romney campaign adviser told reporters Sunday.

"It's likely that they'll be campaigning on different tracks until we get to the convention," Romney senior adviser Kevin Madden said, adding that the campaign saw the potential for Ryan to made inroads for the Republican ticket in the Great Lakes states. Ryan is a seven-term Wisconsin congressman, who was re-elected in 2010 with over two-thirds of the vote.
