(CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan has been the GOP vice presidential nominee since Saturday, but has already become a lightning rod on the campaign trail.
CNN Chief National Correspondent John King caught up with Ryan at the Iowa State Fair and asked the candidate about how Democrats are seizing on his controversial Medicare plan.
"We'll play all these issues later," Ryan said. "We'll play stump the running mate later. Our job is to strengthen and protect Medicare. That's what we do. President Obama, they're raiding and ultimately rationing Medicare. We'll deal with these issues later though."

Wow.. a GOP member kicking the can down the road.. that's different..
Ask Ryan how much the Iraq war cost the tax payers !
It doesn't matter what Mitt does to avoid the tax return issues – citizens are not going to let it go away. How can Romney demand several years of tax returns from his so-called VP applicants and tells us it is not our businees to demand his? Does he know he is applying for a job from the citizens? We need to see what is in them as part of the process of hiring him. Otherwise, he's not going to be hired. Romney – keep your tax returns secret & no POTUS job for you.
Delusionary = Someone who repeats the same delusion over and over until they believe it's true. Delusionary best describes Willard (Mitt) Romney and Paul Ryan and their plan to save America by duping the middle class into supporting the wealthiest. If I have this right and you are just a firefighter, police officer, teacher, nurse, coal miner, mechanic, construction worker, janitor, waitress, factory worker, etc, you have not worked hard enough to be part of their Wealthy American Dream.
How does replacing Medicare with a voucher system = strengthening and protecting Medicare?
Will the young and healthy sell their vouchers to scalpers on a black market for all of the Grannies, who have spent theirs, but are not ready to kick the bucket?
Where is Biden anyway? Locked up or at his nice tropical family compound on St. Thomas?
Any middle-class person who doesn't research what the Ryan plan proposes is shooting themselves in the foot. Conservatives, if you don't read it and support this guy you're ignorant, if you do end up reading it and still support him, you enjoy shooting yourself in the foot.
This will go over like a LEAD BALOON..........
Palinesque, play stump the running mate later. Ryan's already over his head. Where is Couric?
It is a complete fabrication by the GOP that Obama's health care plan takes a single dime from Medicare. Today, Mr. Ryan, in classic Romney form, lied in making this claim that has been completely debunked as false by every fact-checking organization. If people under 55 are stupid enough to vote for Romney/Ryan, and take the voucher option, I hope that health care costs rise and the vouchers do not cover them. When they start whining for government assistance, the answer from the rest of us will be, "Screw off!"
Are you kidding me!! Medicare is the only issue Ryan knows about. He's a one issue VP, pathetic choice!
Go get them Obama and Biden. They guys will try to lie to the public to get elected.
Ah, what can I say – they do not agree with me or Romney or the GOP/TP – so, they can’t be from Iowa! I even doubt that they are Americans…away with them!
Never mind what nonsense Romney and Ryan spread (and it is a lot!), check things out for yourself, check what their plan will do to the country and to you and your family. Do get involved and then vote a strait DEMOCRAT-TICKET!
CNN Chief National Correspondent John King ?
Please CNN , will you use a better photo of Wolf Blitzer . That image looks like he went to a taxidermists for a curl up and dye !
Give the guy a little respect !
There ya have it, folks. This is the kinda stuff the Romney/Ryan ticket is gonna offer... Dodging the question. And a relevent question, at that. When asked about his party's roadmap to a brighter economic future, which he wrote, he accuses the reporter of trying 'gotcha' journalism??? I mean, the word 'budget' was IN the question! Ryan could have used the opportunity to defend his plan on CNN, in front of people too smart to watch Fox News, yet he'd rather deflect and criticize the president. We want policy proposals and answers, Mr Romney! If your election platform is just to keep reminding us that you're running against your opponent, and not say why you should have his job, then you better prepare your concession speech...
They are both right.
Repealing ObamaCare will reopen the douhgnut hole immediately. If they Pass the Ryan plan the same day it does close the doughnut hole. The big difference is how it is paid for. Obamacare covers the expense within the program. The Ryan plans requires drug companies to refund medicare for dual eligibles. Right now if someone is eligible for medicare and medicaid, Medicare pays 80% and Mediciad pays 20%. By requiring the drug companies to refund the 80% of payments for dual eligibles The Ryan plan in effect taxes the drug companies which will be countered by universally higher drug costs
Obamas does not ration or even reduce Medicare, the savings freim Medicare is based on reducing the amount of fraud, not reduction in benefits, as well as forcing insurers to stick by the cost agreement agred to for medicaid advantage plans. The savings is then used to offset cost in subsidizing obamacare, Ryan also intends to wipe out fraud in Medicare but hen use te savings to give more tax breaks to the wealthy.
