Ryan: 'Excited' for a campaign about budget

(CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan answered questions about his past budget proposals in a Tuesday interview by saying he has "joined the Romney ticket" and is "excited" for a campaign in which the budget proposals of each campaign take a central role.

His proposals have overshadowed Mitt Romney's own less-detailed proposal in the days since Republican presidential candidate Romney introduced Ryan on Saturday as his running mate.

Romney assails Obama as "intellectually exhausted"

Chillicothe, Ohio (CNN) – Mitt Romney looked to seize the offensive in his campaign against President Barack Obama Tuesday night with a hard-charging and sustained attack on the president’s leadership.

Calling Obama “intellectually exhausted,” Romney charged his rival had made “wild and reckless accusations that disgrace the office of the presidency” and failed to live up to the promises he made as a candidate in 2008.

Rare opportunity for speakers at GOP convention

Washington (CNN) - For one week in August, the Republican Party will have a guaranteed place on prime time TV and, it hopes, voters' undivided attention.

For many watching, the Republican National Convention will provide the first glimpse of a political fight that has been brewing for more than a year, presenting the GOP with a new opportunity to argue that it's best prepared to take over after November's election.

Devo off the leash: 'Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro'

(CNN) – Seamus, the now infamous Romney family dog from the 1980s, was again in the spotlight on Tuesday, off-handedly referenced by President Obama on the campaign trail and the subject of a soon-to-be released punk rock song.

Devo, the punk rock band famous for it's hit "Whip It ," will release a song later this month titled, "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro (Remember Seamus)."

Campaign conundrum: A 'fund-raiser' vs. a 'finance event'

Lakewood, Colorado (CNN) – A Mitt Romney campaign aide found himself trying to explain the difference between a "finance event" and a "fund-raiser" after reporters were told they would not be allowed to cover a Tuesday evening finance event - or was it a fund-raiser? - with vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan in Las Vegas.

The aide, who insisted on briefing reporters without being named, was disputing reports that the move meant Romney officials were changing the coverage agreement they made with news organizations about covering campaign fund-raisers.

Romney-Ryan raises over $7 million in three days after VP announcement

(CNN) - Rep. Paul Ryan's newfound spot, now only three days old, on the GOP presidential ticket has aided Mitt Romney's quest for cash with $7.4 million raked in since the announcement 72 hours ago, according to a tweet from Romney campaign Press Secretary Andrea Saul.

The campaign did not however hit the fund-raising mark reached by the 2008 Republican presidential campaign in the first three days after former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined the ticket.

n. a pause to assess the state, progress or condition of the political news cycle

DEVELOPING: ROMNEY GOES ON THE MEDICARE OFFENSIVE: Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign announced Tuesday that it is going up with a new TV ad that claims President Barack Obama has cut more than $700 billion from Medicare. The Romney campaign says the new 30-second spot will start running on Wednesday and describes the ad buy as "significant."

AD SCRIPT: "You paid in to Medicare for years. Every paycheck. Now, when you need it Obama has cut $716 billion from Medicare. Why? To pay for Obamacare. So now the money you paid for your guaranteed health care is going to a massive new government program that's not for you. The Romney-Ryan plan protects Medicare benefits for today's seniors and strengthens the plan for the next generation."

CHICAGO CALLS THE AD HYPOCRITICAL, DISHONEST: Lis Smith, Obama campaign spokeswoman: “The savings his ad attacks do not cut a single guaranteed Medicare benefit, and Mitt Romney embraced the very same savings when he promised he’d sign Paul Ryan’s budget. … The truth is that the Romney-Ryan budget would end Medicare as we know it: People with Medicare would be left with nothing but a voucher in place of the guaranteed benefits they rely on today. And they do it all to pay for massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires – the very same top-down economic scheme that crashed our economy and devastated the middle class in the first place.”
