Ryan addresses Medicare criticisms, mom campaigns Saturday

Warren, Ohio (CNN) - Saturday Paul Ryan will bring out his designated hitter on Medicare: Mom.

Defending his reform proposals in a Sunday interview, the newly minted VP candidate noted the concerns seniors may have about change to the government program by saying his own mother is on Medicare and lives in the battleground state of Florida.

This Saturday Ryan's mother will join him on the stump in The Villages, Florida, according to Ryan traveling press secretary Michael Steel.

Meanwhile, at a campaign rally in North Canton, Ohio, Ryan continued to hit President Barack Obama about his changes to Medicare and later he addressed the concerns about his own plan in Warren.

Ryan made his comments Sunday in a joint interview with Mitt Romney on CBS's "60 Minutes," a day after he was announced as Romney's running mate.

"My mom is a Medicare senior in Florida," he said on CBS. "Our point is we need to preserve their benefits, because government made promises to them that they've organized their retirements around."

While Ryan has accused the president of "raiding" Medicare to pay for Obamacare, in Thursday's remarks he also addressed critics who claim his budget blueprints include the same cuts.

The House Budget Committee chairman tried to explain that the budget he helped write had to include a baseline for Obama's health care law. He said Thursday he voted to repeal Obamacare and made the point, "we would never have done it in the first place."

"First of all, those are in the baseline, [Obama] put those cuts in. Second of all, we voted to repeal Obamacare repeatedly, including those cuts. I voted that way before the budget, I voted that way after the budget. So when you repeal all of Obamacare what you end up doing is that repeals that as well," Ryan said to a reporter who asked him to respond to the criticism over lunch at The Original Hot Dog Shoppe.

Ryan continued, "In our budget we've restored a lot of that. It gets a little wonky but it was already in the baseline. We would never have done it in the first place. We voted to repeal the whole bill. I just don't think the president's going to be able to get out of the fact that he took $716 billion from Medicare to pay for Obamacare."

Obama and his re-election team have aggressively gone after Ryan since he joined the Republican ticket five days ago.

"Congressman Ryan knows that the $716 billion in Medicare savings that he included in two of his own budgets do not cut a single guaranteed Medicare benefit. It's a shame that someone picked for his 'strong beliefs' is now abandoning them just to help Mr. Romney score a political point," Obama campaign spokesman Danny Kanner said in a statement.

Ryan said he welcomes the conversation between parties. He repeated a line from Wednesday in his North Canton remarks, "This is a debate we want to have, this is a debate we need to have. This is a debate we're going to win."

Given Munster is such a workout junkie, did he immediately go from this event to the gym, or just retire to the men's room and hurl?

I doubt the lefties want to take on Ryan's mom over the issue! Lefties don't know anything but the usual BS talking point lies of the Democrats. Somebody actually on it will mop the floor with you liars.

Bring it on. Just don't start complaining when the math is laid out for her that shows (1) Obama's Meidcare savings do not effect benefits, making her son a giant liar and (2) her son's plan will very quickly turn her guarantee of Medicare-provided health care into a shrinking coupon that is quite likely to result in him getting his inheritence early.

Lots of folks are already taking on Ryan, his hero Ayn Rand, and will gladly take on Ryan's mom. Look up "Nuns on a Bus" and the Conference of Catholic Bishops, for 2 groups from the church he claims to be a member of. Both of them are against Ryan and his radical budget to kill Medicare, Social Security, and the middle class. Who knows? Maybe he will get excommunicated before it's all over.

Well, Obama can take our $716 billion dollars from our Medicare if Obama pays each and everyone one of us that has paid into Medicare an interest for every year that our Medicare supports Obamacare.

Why? Because his Medicare plan gives us a Choice to either stay with the traditional Medicare or we can find our own insurer and our Medicare money pays for it? Why shouldn't we get to choose what we want with our money????

I'm sure that Ryan's mom has been assured that she will be taken care of regardless of what happens to Medicare......a lot of seniors don't have that luxury.

Considering the fact that Ryans mother has the money to pay for any and all medicare that she might ever need....just what is the point in the whole charade???? She's going to show up on camera championing her "BOY" as if he's so special...which he is....TO HER...but he will be a detrement to other older women who need medical help,,,,,,we haven't got millions waiting and ready for our needs.....This is a waste of time......!!!!!! IN fact it's a joke!!!!

Ryan's mother may or may not KNOW the DETAILS OF HIS PLAN. But whether or not she does, DOES NOT EVEN MATTER. The woman is RICH. Right now she is benefiting from Medicare as it CURRENTLY STANDS, and if there are any financial holes, she has her RICHES TO FILL THE GAPS. THE SAME WOULD BE TRUE FOR HER SON'S VOUCHER PLAN. SHE WOULD HAVE HER RICHES TO FILL THE GAPS. So it really does matter to her which Medicare Plan would be law.

Ryan's mom will be fine. His parents have a lot of money so that when his voucher/privatized system leaves Medicare folks with a bill for a few thousand dollars, she'll be able to pay it. Most elderly folks don't have that luxury.

The Ryan-Romney voucher/privatized Medicare system means that the elderly won't be able to simply get their care and have it paid for by Medicare. Instead, they will receive a voucher for a certain amount. If they go over that amount, then they will have to foot the bill on their own. Yes, I'm sure it will save money. But I don't think it's a very good deal for my grandmother.

I believe most of the top 1% in this country would rather not pay any taxes at all, and why is that you ask? Simple, it is spelled GREED or as I like to put it the unquenchable thirst for more. They are never satisfied with what they have if there is any possibility of having more. Really does make one want to vomit. Remind you of the pigs in Animal Farm?

Good luck getting Obama actually talking about the issues. He would rather talk about tax returns and photo ID cards. There are 6 things Obama will avoid at all costs: 1. Jobs. 2. The Economy. 3. National Debt. 4. 2009. 5. 2010 and 6. 2011.

"Well, Obama can take our $716 billion dollars from our Medicare if Obama pays each and everyone one of us that has paid into Medicare an interest for every year that our Medicare supports Obamacare."

I'm sure he'll keep that in mind if and when he ever decides to enact legislation that actually takes $716B from Medicare benefits. Right now, that hasn't been done, so you're ranting based on a faulty premise and it makes you look extremely foolish. The money comes from reducing reimbusements and subsidies to hospitals and Medicare Advantage, not from the guaranteed benefits. Moreover, he's vlosed the "doughnut hole" with it and expanded Medicaid such that it covers things for some seniors that slip throught the cracks with Medicare. The reality is, the overal package of the ACA has expended and guaranteed coverage for seniors. Ryan's CouponCare Crapshoot does the opposite.

Obama – Ending the American Dream as We Know It......You need to get a life and do some fact checking.

Ryan's plan may be fine for his mom because if she can't pay the increases caused by his "voucher" plan he will pay it for her. You have to be a senior with money to want Ryan's plan. Most of us don't have that luxury. It comes out of our social security which he also wants to take away. Go figure how that helps the average American.

Oh? Is that why he's been talking abotu Medicare, health care reform, the economy, tax reforms, etc? Interesting. It seems an almost zen state of wilfull ignorance that you guys live in. You just "transcend" any facts that float your way that aren't convenient to the carefully constructed, extremely rigid, rabidly defended misperception of reality that you cling to. I almost eny you the comfort is probably provides, because I can tell you, athose of us who pay attention to the facts, historical record, evidence, experts, etc., are stuck in a state of constant outrage.
